"Don't go to sleep yet..." came his low voice from the darkness.
"Hmmm...Wha'? Wha' 's wrong?" Hermione mumbled half asleep.
Severus sat up in, his and Hermione's bed, wide awake, looking to where he figured Hermione's head to lay. Nothing could be seen in the pitch blackness of the bedroom. Hermione feeling Severus stir and sit up, managed to wake up her mind. She waited for him to speak or do whatever the hell he was trying to do.
"I said, don't go to sleep yet." Severus stated firmly.
"What?" asked Hermione, rather annoyed he'd, not even ask, but tell her not to go to sleep. And for heaven's sake, it wasn't too long before dawn. And when he asked her, she kept him company all night and early morning long, while he graded essays.
"Surely I don't have to repeat myself a third time?" Severus may be used to long, sleepless nights, but Hermione sure wasn't. She felt his leg stretch out beside hers.
"You're right. You don't have to repeat yourself-" she began, "oh hell, Severus, go to sleep." And with that she rolled on her side away from him. Hermione was trying to tune out everything and concentrate on falling asleep. It was working, sleep was near. Hermione felt the heavy feeling of unconsciousness begin to...
"Severus!" Hermione angrily pleaded. He was still sitting up and, as if he was timing it, just as she was about to drift away he gave a loud, deliberate exaggerated sigh by her ear. Hermione rolled over, so she was facing his direction. "What the HELL is your problem?"
Hermione had always been more ballsy when she was under slept. She was annoyed to her capacity and he was quite amused by this.
"Excuse your language," Severus said as though she were still his student. "But I just don't want you to go to sleep yet."
"Why not?!" Hermione asked wildly. Staring at the faint outline of Severus face.
"Because..." he started, and chuckled, "you my dear, are on my side."
Hermione couldn't believe her ears. What was he getting at? "Your side?" she asked, her confusion getting the best of her.
"My side of the bed."
"You have got to be kidding me?!" Hermione started. She sat up and let out a sound of exasperation. She pushed the covers off of her and walked to the other side of the bed. Severus didn't move. "Well, push over, to 'your side.'" Hermione said grumpily.
He moved over and settled down into bed, without another noise, falling fast asleep.
'Typical man,' Hermione thought, smiling a little. And she moved closer to Severus, so that her head was resting on his back and she too, fell asleep. On her 'side' she thought as she drifted away.
