That Which Was Once Calm
Chapter 1: Recovery
"Kenshin, Kenshin!" Someone was calling. Someone still had hope.
What seemed like an eternity later, I was roused from my sleep. I was in a comfortable bed in a strange room. It was paneled with wood with a flower wallpaper print.
"Awake now are you?" said a familiar voice.
"Misou?"
"Yep," she answered.
"Where am I?" I asked.
"The grand headquarters of the Tokyo Oni Waban Group!" Misou announced proudly.
"Doesn't look like much," I commented wearily.
"KENSHIN!" Misou yelled hitting my hard over the head.
"Oww, leave me alone, I'm still healing."
"Baby," she jeered. I tried to sit up but my head nearly split in two.
"What happened?" I queried, but it was all coming back to me too fast for my liking. Misou began to explain, but I was no longer listening.
Everything was dark. The sky was crippled with the only true entity of evil, darkness. Shishio stood only feet from me grinning his trademark smile.
"I grow impatient Botosai, will you duel me now?" Shishio remarked wickedly. I said nothing, but Shishio knew the answer already. With one fluent motion he leapt from his perch on the evil ship, Purgatory, and landed only inches from me. Sito and Sanoske sprung back with fear, but I would not move. Nothing would stop me. In a flash it was over. Shishio struck me hard up my chest and head rendering me unconscious. 'I can't even dodge him,' I thought before leaving the empty docks of Kyoto for the realm of blackness that was now my life.
"Sito, Sanoske," I muttered.
"Kenshin," Misou began painfully, "Kenshin they're. dead." It hit me harder than I could ever have imagined. It was almost unreal. I had not spent much time with the police officer Sito, but Sanoske was different. He was always at my side ever since I first beat him when he was a fighter for hire. 'I will never forgive you Shishio, never,' I thought viciously. Nothing would stop me from beating him. Something extremely painful was surfacing now though. I could not even come close to beating Shishio as a wanderer so there was only one option left. Hidokiri Botosai must be reborn.
