Like an ungrateful man
-------------------------------
I was a child
When my father died
But you were there
To give me a place to hide
Mother and I didn't know where to go
The enemies were right behind us, you know
But then we came to Rivendell
And finally were able to escape that hell
I missed my father
I wasn't able to forget
But everything changed
When we finally met.
You knew how I felt
Took me in your gentle embrace
And I knew you loved me
By one look in your face
I called you my father
And your sons were my brothers
I had found a knew family
A new name was given to me
You taughed me all I had to know
Showed me the right way to go
You gave me so much patience
Though I know I gave you many frustrations
When my mother died
You held me tight
Gave me comfort
Never left my side
When I was grown
A magic to me was shown
I saw her linger
In your garden's glimmer
I had never seen something as beautiful as her
I didn't know who she was
And I didn't really care
For I knew that I couldn't love anyone but her
But then she told me that her name was Arwen
And I knew that she was your Undòmiel
It was too late for my heart to escape the spell
But I knew that it was wrong all too well
You talked to me like the loving father you always were
There was so much understanding there
But you didn't want me to love your child
And I knew you were right
Loving a mortal would mean her death
Someday she would take her very last breath
Losing her would brake your heart
And I felt as if mine would fall apart
Then you told me who I was
That my father was the king of the past
My destiny was clear
But still there was so much to fear
You saw that when you looked in my face
And for a moment I could see the pain in your gaze
To my surprise you told me that I could marry her
If I became king to have a kingdom to give to her
I went to the rangers
To learn how to survive in the dangerous wild
You have been a good teacher
But you have always been mild
One day I came back
And saw how happy you were
Finally I knew
That your love for me was still there
Gandalf asked me to help Frodo
And I promised him to do so
After he was hurt I brought the Hobbits to you
As always you knew what you had to do
The Ring had to be brought to Mordor
And you chose a fellowship to do so
Frodo, Sam, Gandalf, Merry, Pippin, Legolas, Gimli, Boromir and I
We chose the pass that could mean to die
But all but one survived the terrible war
The Ring was destroyed in Mordor
I became king
Like you wanted me to
Now our wedding day has come
Arwen's beauty is shining like the sun
Now she is my beloved wife
It's the most wonderful day of my life
During the celebration you walk away
Into the gardens where you stay
After a while I follow you
I know it's a hard day for you
Without your daughter you have to leave
I feel like a thief
To Valinor you will depart
And Arwen will only be in your heart
I see you standing in the twilight and tears you shed
I've never seen you crying, not since we met
I can't watch it and so I can't stay
Silently I walk away
I remember your gentle voice
When I was a child sweet songs you sang
You always gave me love and comfort, but now I can't go to you
Like an ungrateful man
