Bobby is a nice boy. It's true, he is. He's sweet, sensitive and has a sense of humor. And Rogue knows that dating him makes him happy. She's happy that she makes him happy.

But dating him does not make her happy.

She stays with him because it's what's she's supposed to do. It's the right thing to do. She lets him hold her hand and wrap his arms around her waist. She lets him make her little icicle trinkets and whisper in her ear sweet little things. Meanwhile, her eyes are sealed closed and her breath is hitched because when his palms are pressed against the thin cotton of her top, she imagines it's Jean. That it's her hands are holding her close and keeping her safe and making everything alright.

But it's not alright.

It was a cold night and the room was dark when Rogue snuck in. Slowly creeping up to Jean's side of the bed. She hovered over the sleeping woman, watching the way her eyelids would twitch and studying the small cuts on her lips from all the nervous times she bit them. Then she frowns when Scott rolls over, drapes his arm over her waist and nuzzles her ear in his sleep. Tilting her head, Rogue begins to hate herself when she realizes how perfect they look together.

Because they're meant to be together.

The next day and many after that, she carried on with her routines and never let down her guardl. She clings to Bobby as John rolls his eyes in mock annoyance and just a hint of jealousy. She knows that she could relate more than John thinks and laughs at the obscene coincidence. Life is perfect where they are and Rogue doesn't dare disturb that. It'd be too complicated and no good for anyone. Though sometimes she can't help but to pass a few slightly suggestive remarks at Jean. And Rogue smiles when she responds, (playfully...jokingly,) 'cause as complicated as it would be, it'd still be fun.

Still, Rogue's not allowed that much fun.

Rogue is a good girl, despite what other people may think. She's as good as she can be under the circumstances she's found herself in. She stays with Bobby, hangs out with John and doesn't complain. And for those times when she's (quickly) kissing Bobby's unusually soft man lips and Jean's face pops up in her head, she pushes it back. She pushes those thoughts back because it's not what she's supposed to think of. Because being in love with Jean Grey is wrong.
