Disclaimer: I don't own it. Don't sue me.
Warning: It's very short!
A/N: Please review to tell me what you think! Also this is my first try at a Matrix ficlet so don't blame me if it sucks. And I know there is other story's written already like this, but I hope this is nice and original seeing as it's built around my own poem!
Trinity sat on the cold steel chair. She could hear every noise, sound filling the room. It never felt so alone. Staring down at Neo, his eye shut as the machines make him breath. How was this any different than the Matrix? Keeping him alive was artificial, everything he wasn't. It seemed wrong, in fact down right disrespectful. To treat him like this, watch him go through so much, every night death to her looked better. She knew she couldn't live without him and that if they pulled that plug right now, and he died, she would as well. Even though living, her soul would be an empty void, more so than it is now. Who knows how long this torture would last for, but she would stay by his side. Just holding his hand, and taking each breath with him. Suddenly a thought occurred to her, one that had never before. Reaching into Neo's pants pocket she pulled out a slip of paper. It was all crumpled, yet she could still read her hand writing on the front; To Neo, Love Trinity. A poem she had written, right before he entered the Matrix to look for the source. She had slipped it into his pocket, and hoped he would read it once he got out, and all was saved. So much for that happening. Opening the paper, it didn't seem as in such bad shape, it was still readable. Seeing as there was nothing to lose, and no one was around except Neo, she read it aloud:
The One
Known as the One to most of us,
Our savior against the evil
That is the Matrix and its agents,
The body count rises as they kill
Yet he could stop them,
When no one else is able to
Make the most incredible feats
Only he made possible to do
He shall go down in history
For setting the real world free
But what about the truth
The way he was with me
The Neo behind the curtain
Different then what was expected
Not the way he was supposed to be
And kept it from being detected
He never tried to hide it
That is when I was around
Not that he could hide it in him
His voice and every sound
When he spoke to me
I could feel his pain
Everything that weighted him down
Those made him want to yell in vein
It isn't fair that he had all this
Built up deep inside so no one could see
Sad that he trusted no one with this
That is with the exception of me
Pouring his soul into mine
I would listen to him for hours
Then by the day was through
He would thank me in that cot of ours
Remember him, the one
For whatever reason you want to
But I'll remember him for Neo
And things he always told me we would someday do.
Tears filled her eyes once again as she finished. It was heart-wrenching to read. She finally gave in and could hold up her head no longer. Laying it upon Neo's chest she could feel his heart beat, somehow it calmed her. No, it wasn't just the beating of his heart; there was a hand on her back. Someone was rubbing it.
"We will still someday."
Trinity jumped at the sound of his voice. Sitting up, his hand was still and his eyes were still shut.
She let out a deep sigh, but now even more than ever, she had faith, in The One.
