It wasn't often sickness entered the Addams household, but when it did, it usually came for Gomez.
Morticia suspected it was her lineage that kept her and the children healthy. Gomez, on the other hand, could pass off as what some would call "normal", and with a different immune system was more likely to catch a virus that would merely pass over the others.
Such was the case one November morning. Morticia had suspected her husband was coming down with something the night before, but by the morning he was suffering fatigue, body aches, and a fever.
"Thing," Morticia said, "Ask Lurch to make the children breakfast this morning. Gomez isn't feeling well, so I will be tending to him," Thing nodded and scurried off.
Closing the door, Morticia turned her attention to where Gomez lay. Under normal circumstances, this would have been an invitation for a romantic morning, but judging by the look on Gomez's face, he was using every ounce of strength just to keep his eyes open.
"You should rest," Morticia said as she sat on the edge of the bed.
"And miss a moment of looking at the most beautiful creature that ever walked the earth?" he asked weakly. "Why would I do that?"
Morticia smiled. He could be so stubborn at times. "So you can get back to your full strength," she said, "And we can get back to doing whatever we please,"
"I like the sound of that,"
"But until then," Morticia placed a wet compress on his head, "You need to rest. Grandmama will be making you some hot earthworm tea,"
"Warm worm tea," Gomez mused, "That sounds good right about now,"
Pulling her legs onto the bed, Morticia leaned against the oak headboard as she gingerly placed Gomez's head on her chest. The rhythmic beating of her heart seemed to sooth him as she gently stroked his face.
"Cara mia," he whispered, the softness of his voice indicating he was already drifting off to sleep.
"Sleep well my love," she said as she placed a kiss on his temple, "I'll still be here when you wake up,"
