I, unfortunately, do not own Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Chat Noir and must give credit for character creation and ground laying to Thomas Astruc and all else who help with the production.
"Chat?" Ladybug asked, looking at him quizzically.
"M'lady?" He responded, not taking his eyes off the night sky.
"Do you prefer the sun or the moon?"
He chuckled under his breath as if laughing at an inside joke. "The moon."
"Why?"
"My mother used to tell me stories about the moon. Those are some of my fondest memories of her."
"Oh."
Chat turned to look at her, his emerald stare fixated on her own endless oceans. He appeared to be debating something, though what, she had no idea.
And then he began.
In the name of love all things shall be destroyed, for the sun so loved the moon that he died every night to let her breathe. And the moon so loved the sun that she reflected his light off all the shattered pieces of her being. Thus the stars were born, to symbolize the love of two broken souls brought together through the purest form of nature.
Ladybug stared at him, processing the words he'd just whispered.
"That one was my favorite. That was the one she'd tell me when I had a particularly hard day or when she and my father had gotten into a fight in front of me. It was her way of saying everything would be okay."
"You keep talking in past tense, Kitty."
A quiet smile graced his lips. One full of memories and painful scars. "She's gone now. She got sick one day and never recovered."
Ladybug was silent. How was she supposed to respond to that? Surely by now, he'd heard sorry a million times. She opted to just sit closer, intertwining their fingers.
And together they sat, under the moon, each thinking of the other.
