So first in the Father and Son prompt was an unhealthy father-son relationship, now time for a healthier one!
Admittedly this isn't my best work. I typed it out in like a few minutes. But I wanted to do something Gen 3 related and this prompt was perfect.
Also I'm testing out making certain people speak in accent who didn't originally to indicate regional origin. I don't know if this will be in the final product, though, it might seem OOC to see Norman talk like this for example.
Also "storage capsules" are my headcanon answer for why trainers can hold a seemingly infinite number of items in small bags. Inspired by Dragon Ball's Hoi-Poi Capsules, my idea was "If giant monsters can be held in small capsules, why can't items?" and boom, storage capsules.
Also Skipper is a Sceptile. Reminder that everyone nicknames their Pokémon in my version of events.
Finally, the Slacking fell.
Neru collapsed, and in front of the fallen Slacking, victorious, stood Skipper, who let out a cry into the heavens.
Yuuki fell onto his bottom, trying to catch his breath.
His father quietly withdrew Neru, and the battle was over.
He had won.
He had won!
He cried out in victory. His eyes grew misty. His hands shivered. He couldn't believe it. This was really happening.
His second try, but he had won!
He had won against his father, Gym Leader Senri, his idol, his hero.
All his life, his father had been the man he had looked up to. A men among men, always standing strong above him. And he had won.
"Yuuki."
Yuuki looked up to see his father, his hand outstretched.
He took the hand, pulling himself up.
His father took out a TM and the gym badge, presenting them to him.
"Here, ya earned these."
Yuuki, with uncharacteristic delicacy, took the TM and badge, turning over and inspecting the latter in his hand. It was a simple, not so ornate thing, fitting for his father.
"With that Badge, the Defense of all your Pokémon will increase. Your Pokémon will also now be allowed to use the HM move Surf. This is my gift to ya. Yuuki, I'm sure ya can use it correctly."
"And that is TM42. TM42 contains Facade. It doubles the power of moves if the Pokémon is poisoned, paralyzed, or burned. It might be able to turn a bad situation into an advantage."
"…Thanks, pa."
Yuuki put the badge into his case with the others and stored the TM in its proper storage capsule. His father sighed.
"As the Gym Leader, I can't express how upset I am… But as a father, it makes me both happy and a little sad. It's odd…"
Then, his father embraced him.
"But most of all… I'm proud of ya, Yuuki."
And despite himself, that was when Yuuki started bawling.
He knew boys didn't cry. He was 11, not 5. But he couldn't help it. He just couldn't.
"Pa…"
"Ya've come so far. There ain't a son I can be prouder of."
Skipper, happy for his trainer, joined him by his side, he grinned, giving him a thumbs up.
His father wiped his tears, patting him on the head. Yuuki usually hated it when people treated him like a kid, but feeling that sensation for the first time in a year was nostalgic, even affirming.
"Now, let's get out of here. What about we go get some ice cream like the old days?"
"Ice cream?! I'm in!"
