~~~~~~~Line Break
When I opened my eyes, the sun shining through the window was right in my eyes. I made a face at the brightness and rolled over, pulling the blankets over my head. Then I heard a noise. I sat up, wondering what it was. I almost believed I had imagined it when I heard it again. Someone was in my house! Like a whisper I changed into my ninja clothes and grabbed my kunai pack.
As quickly and quietly as posable, I crept from my room and down the hall, expertly avoiding all the spots on the floor that creaked. I heard the faint sounds coming from my kitchen and wondered who would- or even could- have broken into my house. As I rounded the corner I was shocked still by what I saw.
My mother was making breakfast. For some reason that was the last thing I expected to see, but I wasn't sure exactly why. This was normal. Well, it was a bit late for breakfast, but her being here isn't. she lives her too. And so does…
"Where's dad and Itachi?" I asked before I could stop myself. It almost felt like I wasn't the one asking...
Mom let out a light squeak as she turned to look at me. "How many times have I told you to stop sneaking up on me like that?" she admonished. "Sorry," I mumbled. She just huffed out an exasperated sigh turning back to the food on the stove, moving some eggs onto some bread on the plate near by.
"Itachi got a call late last night. Some missing-nin he's been looking for was spotted or something. Your dad decided to tag along for whatever reason." Mom said shaking her head.
"Oh." was all I said. I was about to sit down when the door opened only to slam shut a moment later. I turned around and immediately slapped a hand over my mouth to keep from laughing.
"Not a single word!" my father threatened.
Dad and Itachi where both covered, absolutely covered, head to toe in some kind of colored oil like substance, what looked like splatters of bright neon pink paint, shimmery blue/gold feathers, and they glimmered with what looked silver sparkles, and…. Orange sequins?
"The hell happened to you?" I said when I could speak without laughing out loud, but I still received a disgruntled look at the clear amusement in my voice and the smile I was trying (and failing) to hide.
"Don't ask!" they both growled dangerously.
I could see how tired they were, and how stiff their clothes where after being covered in all of… whatever it was all night. Now was probably not the time to mess with them but once the thought came across my mind and I remembered all the pranks and jokes than had pulled on me, I really couldn't help it.
"Okay, I won't ask" I said, "but just out of curiosity, which one of you will get to clean up first? We only have the one shower you know." I said as I made my way to the door, the breakfast sandwich from my mom in hand.
Just by the looks on their faces I could tell the thought hadn't crossed their minds yet. Their eyes widened and they looked at each other with slight panic. That's when the argument started.
"I'm the head of this house, it should be me first." Dad said.
"It was MY mission that YOU decided to crash. You weren't even supposed to be there! I should go first." Itachi countered.
They bickered long enough for me to get to the door and slip on my shoes before mom came to see what all the fuss was about.
"Oh my God!" She screamed. "Get out! Out of my house this instant!"
"Mom it's just us!" Itachi cried.
"I don't care who you are! I wouldn't let the Hokage himself step one foot in my house looking like that! You are not dragging that stuff any in any further! Out! Out!" she shooed them. Slamming the door after them.
'This I got to see.' I thought as I sprinted out of the yard and onto the neighbor's roof before they could see me. The two just stood by the front door looking shell shocked at having been kicked out.
As they stood on the porch I saw mom come around the corner of the house with the water hose. It took everything in me not to laugh and give myself, or her, away.
Mom was just getting the spray nozzle ready, while dad and Itachi sat unknowing on the front porch. I smiled. This was gonna be good. Once she was ready, she began to approach them.
Itachi saw her first. He just managed to jump out of the way as mom started spraying the water. Dad was not so lucky. He let out a very un-Uchiha-like shriek as he got doused in the cold water. I tried to contain my hysterics; I didn't want them to notice me just yet. Itachi was next. He did try to run and talk mom out of it, but it did him no good. Mom got him after only a minute.
The sounds they both let out would have our ancestors rolling in their graves. But the argument could be made that they were laughing just as hard as I wanted to. I was losing the battle to not be noticed. I had both hands over my mouth and tears started running down my face and I shook with barely restrained laughter.
It took a several minutes to get both men striped to boxers and to wash most of the gunk off of them, and even then, mom wouldn't let them inside yet. They both looked nearly ready to beg when mom said to wait outside while she got towels for then both.
They both stood shivering in cool early morning air in nothing but their boxers, arms wrapped around themselves for about 2.5 seconds before they dared to go against mom's order to wait. Dad rushed to the door only to find it locked. He pulled and pulled again but it didn't budge.
"She locked us out?" Itachi asked.
"She locked us out." Dad confirmed.
"Here! You managed to drag that shit into my house so you can chill out there till I get it cleaned up!" mom yelled, as she threw two towels out of the upper window. Dad and Itachi scrambled to catch them before they could land in the mud created by the hose.
They stood shivering with their small towels for a few minutes. Dad looked over at Itachi and said, "Desperate times?"
"Call for desperate measures." Itachi finished.
I couldn't contain my laughter any longer. Itachi and dad where cuddling for body warmth on the porch in front of the door, both towels wrapped around them as tightly as posable. And if looks could kill I don't think there's a big enough number for how many times over I would be dead.
They looked up at me, their gazes demanding my death that very moment while I howled with laughter. " You little asshole!" Dad yelled. "I'm gonna kill you!" Itachi screamed. He made to move but the instant the towel slipped from its place around them and let in the cold air in he sat back down shivering.
I just laughed harder, clutching my sides, tears now streaming freely down my face as I struggled to breathe.
"Do I even want to know?" a voice said from just behind me giving me a start. For a moment I had an instinct of make my face impassive, to show no emotion, no weakness. But just as soon as it happened it was gone. After all it was only Naruto.
I looked over my shoulder, smiling like an idiot and still laughing. "Mom got them with the hose when they came in completely covered in gunk and glitter and God probably doesn't even know what else."
"Well from what I can see of your yard I know more than god, cause I can clearly see feathers. And is it just me or are they.. sparkly? "he asked.
"Yeah. They came home looking like someone had covered them in some kind of weird oil looking slime and set off a neon glitter bomb with some pink paint, silver sparkles and orange sequins right in their faces. I do not even know nor do I want to know, about where and why the feathers where involved." I laughed. They were still plotting my demise if the glare they gave me was any indication.
"Oh God. Please tell me they walked by the front of the house." Naruto begged.
"Well, they did walk in the front door." I hedged. "And I also may nor may not have seen a little red light when I jumped over here…"
"Then it's a good thing you neighbor loves me." he said. Stepping off the roof into the front yard.
"I can hear what you are thinking! Don't you even dare!" dad yelled.
"I won't" I yelled, smirking. He narrowed his eyes untrustingly. I scoffed at him pretending to be offended, but his expression didn't change. To be fair he did have good reason not to trust me. While I wouldn't be doing a thing, I never said anything about Naruto…
Luckily Naruto had been behind the chimney and out of sight of the two shivering men and had vanished before he was seen. Until he peaked over the fence a minute later. "The hell happened to you guys?" he yelled.
"Don't ask!" they yelled venomously, but neither had their usual bite as they sat there still shivering. It wasn't just a cold day, it was humid too, with a strong chance of rain in the evening. They would not dry for a while.
Naruto shrugged his shoulders and ducked back behind the fence, walking to the path leading to the front door. The neighbor opened it before he even made the porch. I was close enough I could hear her laughing. "You gotta see this." she said pulling him in to the house.
I was surprised to feel a spark of something unpleasant run through me as she grabbed his hand to pull him into the house. She touched him so easily, so familiarly. I shook my head to clear it. She was old enough to be my mom for crying out loud! What was I thinking? But I still felt the ping in my chest.
I couldn't be…. jealous? Could I?
After the fiasco with the hose and getting a copy of the neighbor's security footage of My dad and Itachi walking up to the house, we where heading to the training grounds. We wouldn't have a mission until Kakashi came back from wherever he was.
"You know the mating season is coming up right?" Naruto asked me as we were walking to the bridge that was the meeting point of team 7.
"Hun?" Was my eloquent reply. I was still lost in thought.
"Kyuubi's mating season? You forgot didn't you?" He asked with a small smile.
"I didn't forget." Was my automatic reply.
He gave me a disbelieving look. "You said the same thing last year. I just wanted to make sure you remembered it beforehand, so you can decide what you are going tell your parents Itachi knows about the heat thing, and I don't mind if your parents know, but I don't really want anybody else too. At least not until I officially have a mate, so its not dangerous. And as my future mate it's kind of important for you to be there." he said.
At his words I stopped in my tracks. Mate? Me? What?
"Future mate?" I asked.
He stopped and looked back at me for a moment, taking in my stunned expression. "Hun. You know I don't think I've said that out loud before." he mused before taking another look at me and walked back to me and took my hands. I was startled but didn't show it. His hands where warm and cradled my smaller ones. It felt right for him to touch me, like he had done this countless times before, so why did I also feel so shocked?
He looked in my eyes searching for something, but it was clear he didn't find it as he gave me a look; it was worry mixed with slight panic.
"You.. You haven't changed your mind, have you?" He started stuttering. "I mean about being my mate? I know it's a really big step to take especially when we're so young. I can… I can wait if you need more time to…" I cut him off with a finger over his lips.
Smiling gently, I said, "I'm not changing my mind"
' Wait, What?'
" I'm sorry Naruto I'm just feeling really off today, ok?"
'What am I saying? Why am I saying it?'
"I had this really long, really weird dream last night and it just, … It was one of those that stay with you after you wake up and it freaked me out a bit."
'What the hell? Why does this not feel right? Like I'm lying to him? Like I have something backwards?
"Are you really, okay? I don't want to push you if you're not ready. I really can wait a year if you need me to.." he trailed off. I felt so bad, he looks so worried.
I shook my head. "It wasn't about us. It was…. I just want to forget about it ok?"
"Yeah." He said but he didn't let go of my hand and for that I was grateful. having the nightmare bough up had frazzled me more that I would even admit, but I knew he would take care of me.
"So! What can I do to make you feel better, huh?"
"What? You sound so confident, what good do you think your gonna do me?" I teased, falling back into more familiar banter.
"Well, I'll have you know that I, happen to be magic." He announced, trying to look smug but only managing to look ridiculous.
I just laughed at him, "You? Magic? Yeah, right. I'll believe that when I see it."
"Oh, but I have already made magic!" he proclaimed, making an exaggerated flourish at me with his free hand. "You're already feeling better, are you not?" he stated.
I kept laughing. He was right, I did feel better. And the more time I spent with him the more the dream faded from my mind. After stopping by the meeting point I was overjoyed to find that Sakura was nowhere to be seen. I spent the entire day with Naruto. We trained for a while which ended in us getting too close and make out on the grass. When we parted, we were both even more breathless than before. We settled down close to each other to watch the clouds. We didn't speak much, but we didn't need to. We were happy to just be near each other. I don't remember falling asleep again, but I do remember feeling him reach out to hold my hand. This time there were no more nightmares.
Another one done, only a buttload left or approx. 126 gallons of my bull$hit. Let me know what you guys are thinking about the new style!
