CHAPTER ONE
THE HERO AND THE DARK MAGE
...
With great power there must also come great responsibility. Those were the words spoken by Benjamin Franklin Parker and they were the words his nephew had chosen to live by. Peter Benjamin Parker, secretly known as the amazing Spider-Man, always used the great power at his fingertips to help those in need, and right now was no different. It may have been foolhardy, but he wound never leave a defenseless soul to die if he could help it.
Hence why he was back at his small apartment now, taking care of the dark sorceress herself, Morgan Le Fay.
She was beautiful, stunning really. A fair skinned maiden with long dark brown hair and emerald-green eyes. Her soft features and alluring figure all distracted from the true danger she really was. A dark mage with more than enough power to spin the world on its head and helped bring about the end of Camelot.
While not as frequent, she had caused he and his friends a lot of grief over the years and yet here she was laid up in his bed while he fed her warm soup. It was an absurd sight to be sure, but it was actually happening. There was no manipulation on her part or magic of any kind at work, just Peter Parker acting out of the kindness of his heart.
"Thank you." she whispered.
She had resisted his aid at first thinking he had an anterior motive, no one did anything kind for free after all, but over time relented. His bed chambers were far more pleasant the confines of a dungeon. Add to that the soups he served her were tasty as well, far better than what she had been eating back in her time.
"No problem." Peter smiled.
He served her another spoonful of soup as he thought about how he'd found her literally stumbling through Queens after he'd finished visiting his Aunt May. At first, he thought she might've been there for him, but that theory died the moment he got a good look at her. She looked pale, sickly so. She tried to fight him, but her magical power was practically nonexistent. She passed out not even a minute later leaving him completely baffled.
Morgan Le Fay was a mystical powerhouse and he'd won by simply doing nothing. He knew he should take her in and hand her over to experts like Dr. Strange or S.H.I.E.L.D, but something in his gut told him not to. It was odd, but he'd long since learned to trust his instincts. So, he webbed her up to his back and brought her home where he'd been taking care of her ever since.
By the time he finished reminiscing the soup was finished. He placed the bowl and handed her a glass of water which she sipped through a straw. She hated feeling weak but was thankful for the hospitality. To think one of the superheroes she tormented would show her this much care in her weakened state as opposed to taking advantage of it.
Spider-Man was being naïve, reckless even. Once she recovered her strength what was to stop her from just ending his miserable existence right then and there and continuing on with her plans for world conquest? Nothing... but at the same time the thought of ending his life after he spent so much time tending to her instead of bringing down the hammer of justice left a bad taste in her mouth.
She supposed she could spare him. That didn't mean she was going soft, right?
"I don't understand you." she began after releasing the straw from between her lips. "Why are you being so kind to me after I've tried to kill you on more than one occasion? Wouldn't it be better for you and yours to lock me up somewhere out of sight and out of mind?"
It was a good question, one that Peter didn't have to think too hard about as he had a few days to process it himself. "Well, you looked like you really needed help. Sure, it would be safer to turn you in, but I don't think prison is what you need."
She quirked an eyebrow at his words. "And what exactly do I need?"
"A friend." he answered as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
Morgan's eyes widened slightly. Was this man before her being serious? A friend? She couldn't be friends with him! She tried to kill him more than once and tried to take over the world more than once. Nearly succeeded a few times too. How on earth could he believe that they could be friends?
"That makes no sense." she muttered lowly.
"Pardon?" he asked.
Emerald met hazel. "What you said makes no sense. I tried to kill you, your friends, take over the world. I have done nothing to warrant such an idea from you. You should hate me, you should be cursing my name, not trying to make nice."
Peter could understand where she was coming from. What he was offering would be like Norman trying to offer his hand after what happened on the George Washington Bridge.
He sighed. "Morgan, listen. I know what I'm offering here makes absolutely no sense, but... I want to try to help you. I think you can do so much more and be so much more. Think about everything that's led you up to this point, is this really how you want to spend the rest of your life?"
The question gave her pause. Is this how she wanted to spend the rest of her life? Trying and failing to have the world and everything in it. Constantly fighting a never-ending series of battles against heroes and villains alike only to be brought low each and every time? What was she doing? Was it all worth it?
"No... no I don't." she answered as she stared into the now half-full cup of water.
Peter frowned as he cautiously reached out to her and ever so gently placed his hand on her shoulder. "Hey, it's going to be okay. You're going to be okay. It might not seem like it now, but you will be, and I'll be here to help you if you stumble, okay."
He took the cup from her hand and extended his free one.
He smiled brightly. "My name is Peter Parker, it's so nice to meet you Miss..."
Morgan stared at his hand before looking back at his eyes. He was serious, wasn't he. She cautiously shook his hand. "Fay... Morgan Le Fay."
"That's quite a unique name. I promise I won't forget it." Peter continued to smile.
"You better not." Morgan smiled back for the first time that night.
Peter couldn't help but feel a warm and tingling sensation in his chest. It won't be easy, and he'll have a lot of explaining to do with the others, but he knows he made the right choice here.
Anyone could be a hero.
(TO BE CONTINUED...)
Author's Note: I don't see this pairing done very often and the one I did read was absolutely fantastic. I hope there can be more Spider-Man X Morgan Le Fay content in the future.
