CHAPTER TWO
NIGHTLY PATROL
...
Morgan Le Fay was far beyond grateful when her fever had finally broken and her need for bedrest came to an end. As much as she enjoyed Peter's hospitality, she was starting to feel cooped up as it were. She needed to move around and flex her mystic muscles and there was no better way to do that than by getting her hands dirty by joining her caretaker on his nightly patrols.
It was a bit boring at first just waiting around for something to happen, but that all changed when the rogues made themselves known. Such interesting foes the spider had. The Scorpion, Dr. Octopus, Chameleon. Rhino, Mysterio, and the Shocker. She had far too much fun tormenting the Shocker. His cries and screams were music to her ears.
All of Spider-Man's enemies great and small were a treat. Though after a while the inevitable happened when the other superheroes in town caught wind of them working together. Needless to say, they were confused about the whole situation. Some like Thor even accused her of hypnotizing the man of spiders. That made her laugh.
Peter then explained the whole thing to them and even had Dr. Strange confirm he was in fact not being brainwashed by the dark mage. That had really thrown some of them for a loop. He and she and working together of their own volition.
Naturally they were untrusting of her because of past history but they did trust Peter, so they left her be, but would be keeping an eye on her in case her turning over a new leaf was just a ploy. That was fine with her, she was being earnest, so she had nothing to worry about.
Peter defending her against the suspicion and doubts of the other so-called heroes did however make her feel a bit warm under the collar of her sorceress garb. A very small part of her thought he would turn on her the moment he was confronted and then she scolded that part of herself. Peter was far too good natured to simply break his word like that. However, seeing was believing.
As time went by the routine of nightly patrols began to stink in and Morgan looked forward to doing the rounds with her new partner. If it wasn't super criminals or thugs, then it could be a burning building, or a bomb set to go off at any second.
Right now, however, it was just she and Peter enjoying the view of the city lights down below. The twentieth century was a far cry from the era she was born in. There were no cars, fancy neon lights, or sewer systems. In her time there were only horses, candles, and holes people buried waste in. The modern world was fascinating, and she had really come to like here.
"If only everything down there was as peaceful as it looks from up here." Peter commented.
"Tis a lovey view. Such a sight would have been inconceivable in my time." she spoke admiring the many moving colors on the streets.
"Right... Sometimes it's easy to forget you're from the times of knights and castles." the spider themed hero admitted. Even though Morgan dressed and spoke like she just stepped out of Authorian legend, which she had, her youthful appearance betrayed her actual age.
Morgan gave a light giggle. "I don't see how you could forget seeing as how I appear out of place here."
Peter smiled as he turned to face her. "I don't think you're out of place. I think you're right where you belong."
"Out here on a rooftop." she joked.
"No..." He gently took her hands in his and he could feel his cheeks heating up underneath his mask. Morgan herself could also feel a warm blush working its way onto her face. "Morgan I-"
Whatever Peter was about to say died in his throat when a large explosion rang out down below. Both superhero and dark mage reluctantly pulled away and looked over the edge to see smoke coming from a nearby office complex. No doubt someone had blasted their way in. The masked hero was about to swing down until he felt the brunette tap his shoulder.
"Yes?" he turned to ask.
"I can teleport us inside, remember?"
Morgan's smile returned upon seeing the Amazing Spider-Man embarrassed. The normally confident hero was now rubbing the back of his head and looked down at the floor. It was a sight she would dare say she found quite cute.
"Right, sorry." Peter began. "I totally forgot about that."
"You are forgiven, now give me your hand." Morgan ordered as she extended her own. Peter obliged her and within seconds the pair was suddenly within the smashed lobby of the office complex.
Morgan had to stifle a giggle when she let go of her partner and watched him stumble slightly. Even after all this time he still wasn't used to instantaneous teleportation. Maybe she should work on a spell for that? It shouldn't be any challenge at all for someone with her proficiency in the dark arts.
She placed her hands to her hips, her lips in a taunting smile. "Still not used to teleporting I see."
Peter shook off the cobwebs. "I'll get used to it... eventually."
"I would hope so."
Another loud boom halted their conversation.
"Come on!" Peter waved before swinging off towards the noise. Morgan flew off after him and what she found in the next room really brightened her night. A man clad from head-to-toe in yellow and red with a sliver belt and matching gauntlets stood there threatening the local civilians.
"Herman! Old buddy! Didn't think I'd run into you this late at night." Spider-Man teased.
Herman, also known as the Shocker, turned towards the source of the voice he hated and froze up when he saw the woman brunette in the medieval green dress. "Oh no, not you!"
She held out her hand to reveal a flaming purple orb. "Did you miss me Herman, because I sure have missed you."
Beneath his mask the criminal had gone as white as a sheet. He turned towards his spider themed nemesis. "I surrender."
Morgan pouted as the flame went out. "You're no fun anymore."
