Rainy Day
Tohru stirred the spoon in the saucepan. The soup she was cooking was almost ready. It had been raining all day and because of the cat's curse, Kyo had not felt well. He had stayed in his bed for a part of the afternoon. Tohru felt sorry for him and she wanted to do something to comfort him. So she had cooked the soup her mother made for her when she was not well. This always had made her happy. She hoped Kyo would be a little better after eating.
She heard Shigure humming and entering the kitchen. He approached her and looked at the contents of the saucepan.
"It looks delicious," he said.
Tohru smiled and filled a bowl.
"I thought it might help Kyo-kun to get better."
Shigure took the spoon that had remained in the saucepan and tasted the soup.
"That's very kind of you. But be careful, when I went to see him, he kicked me out."
Tohru did not dare say anything, but she suspected that he had been bothering him rather than going to see how he was doing. She put the bowl, a spoon and a napkin on a tray and went upstairs. She knocked on the door and opened it when she heard Kyo mutter : enter. He was lying in his bed and did not seem to be getting any better. Tohru looked out the window and hoped that the rain would stop soon. She put the tray next to him and sat down on the chair of his desk.
"Kyo-kun, I made you some soup."
Kyo sat down with difficulty. Tohru saw dark rings under his eyes and his pale complexion. It was surprising that he still had enough strength not to turn into a cat.
"You didn't have to," he said.
"It does not bother me."
She smiled tenderly.
"My mother used to cook me soup when I was not on form."
She handed the bowl to Kyo, who smiled and thanked her. He tasted the soup and it was delicious. Like everything she cooked, Kyo thought. He was happy that she had taken the time to think about him and to make something to eat for him.
The soup did him good, but it was Tohru's presence that warmed his heart.
The end
