Chapter 2
"For me. For them. For you. We are all running out of time. No matter what, never let go of that hand."
I awoke and opened my eyes to see… nothing. Everything was pitch black. I heard a noise from beside me and lean up to hear but I hit my head in the process. " Crap, people are coming, I gotta get this uniform, quick." Sounds of struggling was heard from the other side of the box-thing I was in. "dang it! It's not opening. Time for my secret move!"
After a couple of seconds the bottom of whatever I was in was lit on fire. "Oh. OH!" I let out a loud scream before shuffling around, quickly deducing that I was in a casket, the more I felt around the more I was sure I was In a coffin.
"Dang it! This one's not opening! Guess I'll just have to try… this one!" The flames died down as my older brothers' girlish scream was heard from outside the coffin. I lifted my feet, filling what little room I had left in the coffin. I kicked the lid open and rushed to his aid. "Mya! You're not supposed to be awake yet!"
"Well, I am!" I grabbed the talking cat… raccoon… monster… thing by it's scruff and threw him off the coffin he was on. I flicked the lid off the coffin and pulled out Chris. Then I heard the familiar shuffle of Taylor's feet. I turned and watched him rub his eyes as he moved closer. "Oh good, you're here… I was gonna go find ya, but of course you're right here."
" I' was 'ard ge' 'in ou' ov 'he coffin, bu' somehah I did…" Chris was trying not to laugh as I sighed and corrected him.
"You mean 'it was hard getting out of the coffin, but somehow I did'? You really need to learn how to speak like an American and not like you just came out of the brittish streets." I sighed and and turned towards the cat-like creature and eyes him for a second. "Now, to the cat-raccoon thi-"
" Just who are you calling a raccoon!? I am the Great Grim!" He seemed to pause for a dramatic effect as I shared a confused glance with Taylor; Chris once again was doubled over, laughing. The 'Great Grim' let out a huff before pointing at us. "Tch, whatever. Human! Give me your uniform! And be quick about it. 'Cause if ya don't…" He smirked at us and crossed his arms. "You'll regret it!"
"Oh, great, I dream of being trapped in a coffin and now some crazy cat thing is coming at us proclaiming to be 'the Great Grim.' What'll I dream up next?"
"You better hope it's a dream 'cause I ain't no cat!" He began to step towards us and summon his magic. I quickly spun around, shoving my brothers towards the door in the process.
"Guys, run!" I dodged the blue flame hurling my way and raced to the door. We ran down the hallway, making many lefts and rights before quickly taking cover in a nearby room. The room was littered with flying books and bookshelves filled to the brim with knowledge. We shuffled to the corner of the room as we tried to catch our breath. "I- I think we lost him, but lets stay here a bit longer just to be sure."
Suddenly grim appeared in front of us, a cocky smirk on his face. "Foolish humans, did you really think you could escape the Great Grim? Now then, if ya don't wish to be burned alive I suggest you- MEOWCH! That hurts!"
"Consider it tough love." A man appeared with a whip in his hand. He had raven black hair and a black and dark blue top hat; he had a black mask on his face, covering the top part of his face, leaving yellow pupils to fill in where his eyes would go. His outfit resembled that of a bird, his cape that fell down his shoulders where covered in bird feathers, and his glittery suit and jet black tie seemed to interrupt the white undershirt underneath. Something glittery flicked in the corner of my eyes. My eyes snapped to the long gold plated claws attached to his fingers. I was entranced. I stared at them a single thought running through my head. Has he ever stabbed himself before?
"-lie? Did you zone ou' again? Charlie?" Taylor shook me, I looked at my triplet and tilted my head to the side.
"Yes? Yes! What's up?"
"Well 'he John in 'he bird costume 'as bin 'alkin 'o Chris abou' 'he ca' an' nah 'e says we need 'o ge' back 'o some stupid ceremony because we where 'he only people missin."
"OK." I let a sigh escape my lips as I followed the bird dude down the hall, who was leading us to what I thought was home, my last thoughts being, hands down longest odd dream I've ever had. Let's hope I didn't sleep past my alarm clock!
