Sleep, for Link, was impossible. It was Mid-december, almost Christmas time and with only a month to go until the arrival of their baby, the Princess had been pretty restless.
Truth be told, she had been pretty restless throughout the entire pregnancy, but ever since hitting nine month mark it had gotten every night.
Trying to make himself comfortable on the tiny amount of space he had on the edge of the bed, he pulled the little corner of the blanket that she wasn't hogging, over himself. Without any warning sign, Zelda rolled over from her side onto her back which caused him to have to budge over yet again. Only this time, he ran out of room and fell out of bed, landing with a loud thump on the wooden floor.
Jolting awake upon hearing the sound, Zelda sat up slowly and looked down at Link on the floor.
"Again?" She questioned in disbelief, unable to keep from laughing.
"Well it wouldn't keep happening if you would stick to your own side of the bed." He snapped, annoyed by her laughter.
The sound of her laughter stopped abruptly, her face twisted into an unhappy expression and her lower lip wobbled as she burst into tears. Link's eyes widened and he stood up, instantly feeling guilty.
"Awe no... Please don't cry. I'm sorry." He pouted.
"Y- You're so... So mean." She cried.
"Come on, you know I didn't mean it... I'm sorry." He said, taking a seat back on the bed.
Despite his words she still didn't quit her crying. Link sighed, trying his hardest to think of something to say or do that would get her to stop. His face lit up as he finally thought of something that would work.
"Wait here." He told her and headed out of the room.
Making his way through the castle halls and sneaking into the kitchen, he opened the fridge and located what he was looking for on the top shelf; A basket of strawberries. Throughout the entire time since she'd been pregnant, these particular berries were something she had loved. Having first craved them during her first week, she had since gone through nearly two hundred crates; eating them early in the morning, throughout the day and even in the middle of the night. Taking them from the fridge, he closed the door and headed out of the kitchen, back through the castle halls and up the stairs back to the bedroom.
"Where did you go?" She asked, still seemingly sad.
"Just to the kitchen." He informed her.
"What did you bring?" She quizzed, trying to get a closer look through the darkness at what was in his hands.
"Your favourite food, of course." He stated and walked over to the bed.
"Strawberries! Yummy!" She squealed excitedly.
With that being said, he handed the little crate over to her and watched in amusement as she tore off the seal and began to munch on them like there was no tomorrow.
"Does this mean that I am forgiven?" He asked.
"Oh yeah... You're forgiven... I love you more than anyone in the entire kingdom. You're so sweet and special and..." Zelda answered, her voice muffled because her mouth was full of strawberries.
Link found himself chuckling at how goofy she looked and sounded in moments like this. He couldn't help but feel his love for her increase once more; if that was even possible as he watched her just being in her element. Though he'd only brought them up a few minutes ago, she was already down to the last one and as soon as she finished, her lips pouted again.
"You ate them all already?!" He exclaimed in shock.
"It's not fair... I want more!" She cried.
"Okay, hold on a moment then." He told her, silently laughing to himself as he exited the room and made the journey to the kitchen once more.
This was not the last time that he had to go back to the kitchen either. The routine repeated itself another five times before she finally declared that she was full and laid back down, falling asleep within seconds.
