Trigger Warning: Slight ableism and mentions of fridged mom from the Mechanist along with mentions of cultural and actual genocide. This is done to condemn these bad actions, but if you do not wish to engage, turn away now.
Disclaimer: I don't own Avatar: The Last Airbender or the characters mentioned.
Aang, Sokka, Katara, and Teo were at the Northern Air Temple as the Mechanist showed off his inventions.
Mechanist: So, do you like my inventions?
Aang: No! You built your technology over the ruins of my people!
Mechanist: Well, yes, progress DOES get in the way of things, but you have to understand, a flood took away our home and left my son motherless and crippled and I just wanted a better life for him.
Katara: Did you just use your son's backstory of his disability and dead mother to justify building over ruins of a people who were killed off from genocide?
Teo: *to Mechanist* Yeah, she bring up a good point, Dad; that's messed up.
Mechanist: Well... I... umm... *pulls out a blueprint* Check out this bathhouse I plan on building!
Sokka: You know, I think I just lost all respect for you.
Mechanist: *under breath* I guess it doesn't help that I built weapons for the Fire Nation.
Aang: What?
Mechanist: NOTHING!
