It was a bright day in Inkopolis and the weather felt perfect for a swim on such a wonderful summer day. Meggy Spletzer left the bathroom, wearing a blue-colored bikini and slippers at the same time her dad, Ray, came out in his white swim-trunks with Meggy's mom, Eva Spletzer, in a light red one-piece that accentuated her shapely squid figure.

The Inkling family hugged with Mr. and Mrs. Spletzer sharing a light kiss on the lips. Then Meggy knocked on the bedroom door. "Meggy? You coming?" She asked.

"We're ready to go, dear!" Mrs. Spletzer called.

The three Inklings waited patiently and the door soon opened with Meggy's adopted sister Inktoling Meggy, an Inkling-Octoling hybrid from another universe, coming out in a yellow swimsuit with a bit of a nervous look on her face.

"It's okay..." Meggy hugged her sister, "We're going to have fun."

"You don't have to be shy or scared, sweetie." Eva said.

"I... um..." Inktoling Meggy stammered, "I'm happy to go with you, but..."

"Is there something wrong, Meg?" Ray asked.

"I... don't know how to swim." Inktoling Meggy answered.

Meggy looked at her parents, then they looked at the adopted Inktoling. Today was supposed to be a fun day of swimming at the pool at the local resort, but if Inktoling Meggy couldn't swim, then that was going to be a little complicated. Unless...

Eva stepped in and hugged her adopted baby daughter. "I'm so sorry." Inktoling Meggy said, a small tear running down her face.

"Ssh, it'll be okay." Eva said in a soothing tone, "We're still going to have fun, we can... we can teach you how to swim. Right, Meggy?" She looked at the real Meggy with a wink, the Inkling nodded to her mother and smiled encouragingly at Inktoling Meggy.

Ray grinned at the Inktoling and they left the house together with Meggy holding her adopted counterpart/sister's hand to comfort her, the Spletzers were in agreement that they would help Inktoling Meggy with Eva and Meggy supporting Inktoling Meggy as they helped her get in the water. It was going to be fun.

In the back of her mind, Meggy's initial concern was that Inktoling Meggy was from one of those worlds where Inklings and Octolings didn't mix with water. Hopefully, here, that wouldn't be the case.

The family made it to Mahi-Mahi Resort and took off their sandals in the pool area, ready for a swim. Ray sat down to kick his feet in the pool while Meggy dove in, Eva stood with Inktoling Meggy and put an arm around her shoulder.

"Are you ready, dear?" She asked, "Seeing that you haven't gone swimming before, I'm happy to teach you how to swim."

Inktoling Meggy hugged Eva, "I'm so happy you're my mom."

"C'mon, Meggy!" The real Meggy called.

Eva walked towards the steps leading into the pool and Meggy smiled at her adopted sister. Inktoling Meggy followed Eva with a nervous look, her legs quivered and she clung to Eva, who pat her on the head.

"You ready?" Eva asked when they were at the edge.

"I-I think so." Inktoling Meggy replied.

"Good luck, dear!" Ray encouraged.

Eva let go of her daughter's hand and walked down the steps, her feet touched the water and she walked further until she was waist deep. Then she turned to her daughter, holding out her arms. "First part of swimming is to check the temperature." She said, "The water's fine. Come here, dear."

Inktoling Meggy took a step forward onto the edge, then she stopped half-way, gulping nervously.

"Meggy, it's alright!" Meggy called, "You'll be fine. The water's not going to bite."

"O-Okay." Inktoling Meggy's heart thumped and she walked down the steps slowly but surely, her feet touched the water and she stopped. Looking down at herself, then she walked closer to Mrs. Spletzer until she was waist deep in the pool too. Meggy smiled happily, knowing that her sister was okay.

"YOU DID IT!" Eva hugged Inktoling Meggy happily, "I told you that the water would be fine."

"Th-thanks, mom." Inktoling Meggy said.

"Okay, now we get to swimming. You have to relax your body, relax your body, okay? And put your arms out."

Inktoling Meggy nodded and put her arms out to the side. Meggy came over to help her mother instruct, she told the Inktoling to kick up with her feet. The Inkling kicked off and floated in the pool, moving her legs back and forth as her sister watched. Meggy waved her arms, propelling herself forward. Eva did the same, she dove in and swam around the area.

"Here we go." Inktoling Meggy kicked her feet and moved deeper into the pool, now she was floating without her feet touching the bottom. She swam towards Meggy and their mother, rotating her arms and kicking her legs just like them.

"Now you're getting it!" Ray called, "How are you doing?"

"We're doing great, darling!" Eva replied.

Meggy's dad hopped off the edge and swam over to his family, kissing his wife on the cheek and then he hugged Meggy. They showed Inktoling Meggy the rest of the basics; the backstroke, the side-strokes and the kick-stroke.

Meggy lay on the water on her back, telling Inktoling Meggy to do the same. Eva helped the young Inktoling lay on her back, holding her just in case if she was scared of drowning. So far, for her first time in the pool, Inktoling Meggy was doing pretty good.

"How does it feel?" Meggy asked her sister.

"Water feels... nice." Inktoling Meggy replied.

"Are you ready for this next one?" Eva asked, "I'm gonna let you go, and you're going to float on your back. Are you gonna be okay or do you want me to hold you?"

"I think she's ready, love." Ray said.

"Good luck, little sister." Meggy encouraged.

Eva released her hold on Inktoling Meggy, who floated in the pool, lying flat on her back and she looked up at the sky while feeling the water on her shoulders. She looked over at Meggy, who gave her an encouraging thumbs up.

"And how are you doing?" Ray asked.

"Um..." Inktoling Meggy replied, "I... It feels... fine. I feel better than okay. This isn't so bad."

Eva squealed, she swam over and excitedly hugged her daughter, splashing water as she came over to Inktoling Meggy. Meggy swam up and joined in, hugging Inktoling Meggy too with an excited "yeehee" from the Splatfest champion.

Inktoling Meggy changed her position to stand upright on the water and she hugged her family, Ray joined in to happily hug his adopted daughter.

"Hey, Meggy." Inktoling Meggy said to Meggy.

"Yes, Meggy?" Meggy asked.

SPLASH! The Inktoling threw water in Meggy's direction, the Inkling giggled and splashed back, the Spletzers engaged in a water fight and splashed each other. Eva laughed at this, wiping a tear from her eyes. Then she yelped as Ray tackled her, he pounced on her and the water splashed around them.

Ray splashed Eva, who shielded her eyes, then she splashed him back and tackled Ray, kissing him hard on the lips while their daughters splashed one another, swimming around the pool with Inktoling Meggy chasing and splashing her counterpart/sister.

"Okay, okay, stop!" Meggy laughed, "You got me!"

Inktoling Meggy started smacking the water, splashing more of it in Meggy's direction. Then she morphed into an octo-squid form and leaped out of the pool, doing a flip in the air like a dolphin, before diving back in with a splash. Meggy and her parents watched as Inktoling Meggy swam around, doing backstrokes, flips and various swimming tricks in the pool.

Ray hugged his wife, who put her hand on the Inkling male's shoulder. Meggy hugged her parents while they watched the young Inktoling enjoy her first swim. Inktoling Meggy then waved to her family, telling them to watch something. She then climbed up on the edge of the pool and, to their amazement, she did a handstand before diving back in the water.

"M-Meggy, that was incredible!" Meggy exclaimed.

Her Inktoling sister giggled and hugged the Inkling, Eva kissed Inktoling Meggy on the cheek and the family shared a group hug in the pool. Perhaps by far, this was the happiest day of their lives and Inktoling Meggy made Meggy and her family very happy, she was a blessing to them and they couldn't be any happier to have her with them in their life.

Eva eventually got out of the pool and turned to her family, who was still in the water. "Who wants some ice cream?" She called.

Meggy, Ray and Inktoling Meggy happily exited the pool and joined Eva at the nearest ice cream stand that a jellyfish had just opened up with the Spletzers helping themselves to some creamy strawberry ice cream, the best flavor they could ever have.

Inktoling Meggy looked at her sister and the two smiled to one another, then they dug into the rest of their ice cream and sat down by the pool, soaking in the afternoon sun while feeling their feet in the water as their parents went behind a bush to make out and enjoy their endless love for each other.

"Thanks, Meggy." Inktoling Meggy told her sister, "Thanks for teaching me how to swim." Meggy hugged her sister, accepting her thanks. Then they went back in the water for another swim and another splash fight...

The End
