Judy and Nick looked at each other out of the corner of their eyes. This was bad! The Mayor was in on it! How were they ever going to prove to anyone that innocent, little, Mayor Bellwether was behind this entire scandal within Zootopia!

"Run!" Nick took off with Judy in tow. Judy could hear Bellwether say something about "getting them" before she turned around to look. Big mistake. She gasped feeling something slice into her leg, causing her to collapse.

Judy had not honestly expected Nick to come back for her. So she was surprised when she felt the strong arms lift her and pull her to safety. She looked surprised. Nick didn't even seem to notice as he began tending to her leg.

"What are we going to do?" Nick asked as he wrapped her leg up. Judy didn't know what to tell him. She knew what was going to have to happen, but if the fox's actions from a moment ago were any indicator then he wasn't going to go for her next idea.

"There's only one option." She looked at him, watching his wide eyes stare at her expectantly. "You have to take the case and go. I-

"No." He cut her off with one simple word.

"Nick, I can't walk. We are out of options." Nick looked at her desperately. She didn't know what came over her, it had to be something about the look in his eyes. She lifted her paw up to cup his cheek. "Nick…I think we're out of options here." Nick looked heartbroken for a second, something Judy never thought she'd see. It quickly changed to determination though when he spoke again.

"No we're not." Both looked behind them when they heard the mayor start speaking again. Judy watched closely as Nick took a rabbit statue and pointed it in a way that looked like Judy was moving. She didn't have time to question him. He quickly scooped her upper half up and began running. Unfortunately due to her bad leg she tripped over something in the museum, causing their presence to be made aware.

Nick gasped as he felt the impact of the bigger sheep slam into him. He tried to grab Judy, to protect her, but he couldn't hold on as they fell into the pit below. He did however crawl over to her to try to shield her.

Nick watched closely as the mayor spoke nonsense about Prey being superior and felt his eyes widen when she pulled out a gun. Looking closely he could tell this wasn't the gun with the blueberries like he and Judy had planned, this was an actual gun…Nick felt a strange sense of peace seeing that she was pointing the gun at him, not Judy.

Nick closed his eyes tight as he heard the shot echo. He waited for the pain to take over his body, but it never came…opening his eyes he felt his heart stop. "Carrots?" She was in front of him. Her breathing sounded strange, like she was out of breath. He looked towards her chest and saw she was holding it and there was a dark spot growing by the second. "What did you do?"

She let out a shaky laugh. "I got you into this mess. I'm getting you out of it." Nick watched as she pulled out the carrot pen…she had still gotten the entire confession. It should have been satisfying to see the terrified look on the mayor's face, but it wasn't. Judy leaned forward on her paws. The dark spot was now taking up most of her shirt.

"Carrots, you still with me?" Judy let out a chuckle. Looking up at him.

"I'm still here." He didn't know what came over him as he pulled her close. Holding her against his chest he tried his hardest not to cry. Judy was so brave. He had to be brave for her. Her breathing was becoming slower. More difficult.

"Please hold no. There's an ambulance coming. Just hold on ok? You and me are meant to do so many great things together, can't leave me to do them all by myself ok Carrots?" He watched her eyes glaze over as she smiled at him. She curled closer into him.

"Y-you and m-m-me?" She smiled, trying to put on that brave face for him. The one she had used the first time he met her. He hated both and also admired that she was still trying to be brave for him.

"Yeah, you and me Carrots. I promise." He held her as tight as he could without hurting her. "I'm going to be a cop with you. Your partner, I'll never let you down. I'll stay with you forever Carrots, I promise. We'll make the whole city of Zootopia safe. I'll come home with you to meet your parents. I'll stick by you like glue when you inevitably get hurt doing this crazy job. I promise Judy, I promise." Nick was rambling and he knew it. It's what he always did when he was upset. He couldn't help it. There was also the small bit of hope that if he kept talking that Judy would listen and stay with him longer. That she wouldn't die…."Sounds like a plan Carrot?"

Nick looked down at the bunny in his lap. Still as a statue…"Carrots?" He gently shook her, hoping her eyes would at least flutter. That she was just breathing real slow. "Judy?" Nick felt his heart stop when he realized it. When the conclusion finally came to him. His heart stopped so fast it hurt. "Judy! Wake up!" He waited and waited for her to open her eyes. To pop up like she always did. So when she didn't…his brain couldn't process it.

"Where is that ambulance! She's hurt and she needs help! Get someone down here now!" Nick had never yelled so loud in his life. Had never heard himself speak like this. He could see the other animals back up in fear, but he didn't care. He only cared about the lifeless bunny lying in his arms.

Nick couldn't help the tears that came forward. He hadn't cried since he was that little kid in the boy scout uniform. He didn't care though. He didn't care about anything. Judy was all he wanted. He laid his head on her chest and cried. He held her close. Hoping to any God out there that her warmth wouldn't fade. That she wouldn't become a cold corpse. A shell of who she was.

He was so engulfed in his thoughts he didn't see the ambulance get there. Only noticed when arms pulled him away from her. "No! Stay away from us!" He calmed down seeing they could help. He was quiet as they drove to the ambulance. Watching as they tried to resuscitate Judy. He stuck to her like glue as they ran her towards surgery, just like he had promised.

Nick waited quietly in the waiting room. Waited for her to be okay. For the doctors to come and tell him that it was a miracle. He knew it would be. It would have to be, the way he last saw her it would need to be.

Nick jumped from his seat seeing the doctor coming towards him. His heartbeat was slamming in his chest. He couldn't breathe, couldn't decipher the facial expression of the doctor coming towards him. "How is she?" Was the first thing out of his mouth.

Nick sat by her bed quietly. He didn't know what to do, he felt so numb. Sad? Sad and numb. It was something like that. Laying at the body in front of him. He had asked that they not cover her face yet. He knew her parents would want to see her. And he wanted his last moments with her to be natural….he wanted to see her beautiful face. He wanted to see her nose twitch. He knew it wouldn't, but he could imagine.

Nick had lost it when the doctor told him that she was gone. Saying that she had died from blood loss and that it had put too much strain on her body. Saying that even if they had somehow managed to save her she wouldn't have made it. That she was way too far gone.

"Hey Carrots…I hope you can hear me. I bet you're kicking butt in heaven. Making sure everyone's safe. God probably really likes you up there. You'll be like his little sidekick. I hope you understood what I was trying to tell you before you left. I know I had hinted at it. I always thought it would just come up later on. Maybe a few months from now when everything chilled out, I guess not huh? So I guess this is where I tell you…Judy I like you, I really really do. I wanted to take you on dates and take you to meet my mom. I wanted to meet your family and talk about how much you mean to me. I know it wasn't love, I haven't known you that long, but I'm positive that's what it would have turned into.

I feel so stupid now that I just didn't come out and tell you. That I just let you wonder. I'm glad I got to know you. You were my best friend you know? You were the first person to prove you really cared about me. Save me a seat upstairs. I'll talk to you later, Carrots." Nick doing a very unlike Nick thing kissed her paw before making his way out of the room to wait for her parents. He had made the calls and let them know. He would be here when they got here. He knew Judy would want him to.

He stayed while they looked around. Waved them over and gave them hugs. Ignoring the fear in their eyes to be dealing with a fox. He ushered them into the room and let them cry over their dead daughter. He told them all about what a hero she was. How she had saved everyone.

He helped with the funeral arrangements. Had helped with the design of her statue that was put up in her honor. He even made a speech at her funeral. He let the days pass with training. He would do what she wanted. He had to hold back tears as he was accepted into the ZPD. It should have been Judy putting that badge on him, he and Bogo both knew it as they exchanged a sad look.

"Hey there Carrots. Let's go make the world a better place today." Nick spoke to her statue that overlooked the precinct. Looking down at the plaq it said "Hero, daughter, best cop there ever was."

"You sure were the best, weren't you?"
