Irida blipped into existence, nauseated, she stumbled.
"Where am I" Irida was confused, her head was pounding. Suddenly she remembered. Her brain felt like it wanted to break down, but then, her bindings glowed and forced a swift and painful calm into her brain.
The zap of pain cleared her head, letting Irida think rationally, so she scanned her surroundings. She was in a domelike house made of some kind of fabric and wood. There was a large bed, a desk, some kind of box, and also a huge banner with odd symbols on it. But she decided to do what had always worked for her in the past and just think it over.
"Ok, so, what do I know, the stupid go-" Irida was interrupted by a flash of pain from her bracelets. She rubbed her hands on her temples, trying to alleviate the lingering pain.
Irida started to pull on the bracelets, trying to remove the torture devices, but they would not come off.
"Get off you stupid bracelets!" She yelled, banging on them. Although the only thing this accomplished was hurting her now delicate hands.
Before she could do anything else rash, someone knocked on the door. "Lady Irida, is something the matter?"
Irida immediately pulled herself together, realizing that she wasn't alone, she thought quickly "Everything's good, I just, uhh, stubbed my toe on something." She winced at how fake that sounded, but it seemed to convince whoever was at the door. "Alright, are you ready for your ceremony? Come meet me in the clearing when you are ready, it starts in half an hour."
Irida would have panicked, but the bracelet threatening to zap her kept her mind fearfully clear. She was terrified she was going to mess up, but she steeled her will and walked confidently out of the tent, figuring that the best way to act like you know what your doing is to be confident.
She opened the door and was surprised by the look of the place, a conglomeration of tent houses in a frozen forest. Irida saw many of the same banners as the one in her room, and also the same symbol as what was on her dress, she grimaced at the thought.
A large crowd was gathered at a clearing, with an elevated platform in the center, upon it stood a man in robes somewhat similar to her own dress.
"People of the Pearl Clan, today is a joyous day, today is the day that the next heir of the clan will be crowned. But before that, a brief history of our glorious clan." The man yelled
"When we arrived in the Hisui Region, we were contacted by our great deity, Almighty Sinnoh!" The crowd cheered "And we settled here, in the Alabaster Icelands. Protected by our noble lords, Kleavor, Arcanine, and Avalugg! We lived in harmony with our pokemon, passing our traditions down from generation to generation. And now, it is once again time to choose a successor." A hush fell over the crowd, the only thing that could be heard was the whistling of the wind.
"I name my successor, if she can pass the trials, Irida!" The crowd went wild and Irida was stunned, she was a princess, or the closest thing there was to one here, this was way too much responsibility, after all, she only just got here. But she couldn't let her doubts show, and walked up the stairs of the raised platform.
"Irida, go home, rest, you have 6 months to prepare for the trial. Study and train your hardest."
