Heading down from the rooftop after a smooth training session, the air was still awkward between the two. Gwen hadn't fully forgiven Peter yet despite his upheld promise. It just wasn't as simple as that for her.

When he had shouted at her, it made her feel awful. As though she had screwed up big time and people would get hurt because of her.

"Are you okay?... Sorry if I ask that too much." He questioned in an attempt to end the silence.

"Kind of, I just…. Can't seem to get your earlier words out of my head." She said sadly.

Peter knew that getting past that little argument wouldn't be easy, especially with what he had said. He couldn't blame her for still being upset with him, but it motivated him to try and do better.

"Oh no… You know I didn't mean it. I panicked and I shouldn't have said those things. I won't apologise anymore because I know I have already said that word too much, instead I'm gonna make it up to you." He promised.

Without a word, Gwen stopped walking and hugged him tightly. Clearly, his words had an impact on the situation and he felt slightly better about it than he had a moment ago. He returned the hug without any hesitation.

Their little moment of peace didn't last long though as sirens began wailing in the near distance, getting louder and signaling that there was work for them to do. Despite her working web shooters, Peter shot one of his own and pulled her into his arms, swinging into action as they followed the police cruiser.

Landing at the scene, the two barely had a second to take in what was happening as angry orange flames licked up an old apartment block. Fire truck sirens were getting louder, meaning that they would be arriving any second. Outside a woman was screaming whilst being held back by a police officer who was failing badly to calm her.

"MY CHILDREN ARE IN THERE!" The woman cried.

Glancing at Peter, who glanced back at her, the two nodded at each other and took off into the building.

The dizzying heat from the fire made it harder to focus and, not being as experienced as Spider-man, Gwen hesitated for a split second before her instincts kicked in and she leapt over a rising flame just in time as a plank came crashing down behind her. The further she got into the building, she was able to hear the faint cries of a little boy calling out for his mother and instantly headed in the direction that the voice appeared to be coming from.

Eventually, she was able to locate the young boy cowering in the corner of the hall, surrounded by flames with no way to escape. Stopping for a second, Spider-Gwen looked around frantically searching for an area to shoot a web to. Having found one, she wasted no time shooting a web to a clear area and swinging herself over into the trap of fire. Kneeling down, she reached out with her hand and took hold of the boy's smaller one.

"Don't worry, I'm gonna get you out of here, okay." She reassured him.

"Who… Who are you?" He whimpered.

"Me?... You can call me Spider-woman." She introduced.

"I don't know… My mommy says that I shouldn't trust strangers in masks." He hesitated.

With the flames spreading fast and the building crumbling, Gwen was left with no option other than to remove her mask. Pulling it off, she handed it to the boy and looked into his eyes. Unaware that his eyes were not the only ones watching her.

"Trust me, I am here to help you. I am just like you… I'm not going to hurt you, I'm going to get you back to your mom, alright." She told him.

"O- Okay." The boy agreed.

"Perfect. Now you can hold this for me, okay." She stated, handing him her mask as a sign of trust.

Without a fuss, the boy took it and allowed Gwen to pick him up in her arms. Using another web, she was able to get the boy out of the circle. Taking her mask back, she slipped it on just as she reached the door. She ran fast but not fast enough as a huge pile of rubble came crashing to the floor, blocking the exit. Scrambling back to avoid getting hit, she searched for another way out and then had a crazy idea.

Picking up an old blanket that lay on the floor, untouched by the fire, she placed it over the boy and then made a run for the window and using everything she'd learned in the past couple of days, jumped through it; smashing the glass to pieces. Once outside, she placed the little boy safely on the ground.

Looking around, she saw that Peter had already rescued the girl and was standing across the street, waiting for her. Getting away from the crowd that had formed since she had been inside the building, she made her way across and just as she reached him, her knees went weak and her head began to spin, causing her to collapse to the ground by his feet.

"Gwen!" He called out, concerned for her as he knelt down and pulled her into his arms.

Checking her over, he found a tear in her suit and a nasty looking gash on her arm, most likely caused by the glass from the window she had crashed through. Rising to his feet and lifting her from the ground, he shot a web and attached himself to the nearest building, climbing up until they were on a rooftop; out of the public eye.

"You're gonna be fine… Don't worry." He soothed, speaking more to calm himself than to her.

For a brief moment, her eyelids flickered and her eyes opened and she weakly muttered his name, before fluttering closed again.

Brushing her hair out of her face, he forced his mind to stay in the present and not flash back to when he'd held her like this back in the clock tower, and focused on helping her. Gently, he removed both her mask and her hood in order to check her head and her breathing.

As he began to examine her, she awoke once more as a coughing fit assaulted her body.

"You're okay Gwen, just breathe." He instructed as he took off the backpack that he had brought with them just in case.

Searching through it, he pulled out a bottle of water, unscrewed the cap and held it up to her lips, supporting her head with his other hand. After a few sips, the coughing ceased and he was able to focus on her wounded arm. Bringing a mini first aid kit out of the bag, he took out a square plaster and used it to cover the wound and help stop the bleeding until he could get her home to take care of it.

"Peter…" She whispered as she slowly regained consciousness.

"What happened? You scared the hell out of me when you collapsed like that." He asked, holding her in a sitting position so that it was easier for her to talk.

"I don't know. I got outside, I saw you and started heading towards you. Then my head began to spin and my legs went weak." She explained, her voice still faint.

"Come on, I'll take you back to mine and get you well again then I'll take you home." He informed her.

Pulling out their regular clothes that he always packed when out and about, he slipped his own on, over his suit before gently helping her to slip hers on too. Scooping her up into his arms; bridal style, knowing that she wouldn't be able to walk in that state, he headed down the fire exit that led off of the rooftop and then out of the building, back on the streets.

Watching from high above, Harry sat in waiting. He hadn't expected this other "Spider-Man" to be Gwen Stacy. He was confused. It didn't make sense as he had been there that night at the clock tower, he had watched her die.

But somehow, Spider-man had saved her, and he was beginning to realise exactly how. Peter had done the exact thing that Harry had asked of him when it came down to the girl he loved. Clearly Gwen meant more to him than anything else.

Knowing this fact, gave Harry the perfect plan for revenge. Now was not the right time though. Until that time came, he would mess with them a little as he waited without giving himself away.

However, when Peter Parker was at his breaking point, that's when he would strike and this time, he wouldn't leave the job unfinished.

Sometime in between coming down from the rooftop and reaching his aunt May's house, Gwen had fallen asleep in his arms.

Whilst keeping a strong hold on her, he fumbled around for his key and unlocked the door once he found it.

"Aunt May?" He called out, flicking the light switch.

"Good God! Peter, what happened?" May questioned, a look of horror on her face as she stood staring at him with Gwen in his arms.
