Spider-Man: Edge of Arkham

Chapter 1- Strange New World

This is my first time publishing a story on this site. Hope you enjoy it. I would like to thank my editor: Berserk Jeanne for helping me with this.

I don't own Spider-Man or Batman. They are both owned by Marvel and DC.

As he opened his eyes the first thing he noticed was the night sky. It was heavy with rain that seemed to go on ever since evening, but that wasn't possible as he recalled it to be a bright noon. Past memories began to resurface.. and he remembered the Nightmare of an event that brought him to this situation. He got up and took a look at his surroundings and he began to notice that he wasn't in New York anymore.

"Where am I?" The wall crawler said to himself.

He looked down at the street and noticed that everything looked like it was abandoned. He also noticed that there were some men walking through the streets. Low level thugs no doubt, but he also noticed some tanks patrolling the streets. They looked dangerous and highly expensive.

"Okay so, I wake up and the streets are filled with thugs and some tanks are patrolling the streets. Lucky me." Spider-Man said sarcastically as he leapt from the roof.

He began to swing through the rooftops to avoid being seen by the tanks. He was tough, yes, but he wasn't sure he could take tank shells yet. As he swung through the city he began to notice billboards and names of certain companies that he didn't recognize. But at least he knew where he was…New Jersey.

"Either I'm in a really vivid AR simulation or I got sent to another world because I never heard of Gotham City before." Spider-Man said jokingly.

In the distance a loud explosion could be heard echoing. On instinct he went to investigate where it came from. Along the way he overheard some thugs talk about Batman and his Batmobile.

"I wonder who this Batman guy is. He sounds intense." Spider-Man said to himself as he kept swinging through the island that he learned to be called Bleake Island.

He stopped and saw where the explosion came from. He saw a big black smoke cloud hovering over what was once ACE Chemicals. He continued to swing his way to the scene.

As he was getting closer he saw something glide through the air. He couldn't quite make it out; it looked like a big bat.

Without hesitation he swung closer to the figure and saw that it was a man dressed in elaborate armor. He noticed the logo on his chest and came to the conclusion that this was the guy who had the bat gimmick.

"Hey there. Where'd you get the teched out suit? Titanium plating with fiber meshing?" Batman didn't reply even as Peter whistled as they traveled.

"Not much of a talker huh?" Spider-Man commented as he swung close to the gliding man. "You gotta be really rich to afford that or you have a lot of help. Something tells me it's both."

The gliding man pulled out a grapple gun and zipped to the nearest building. Spider-Man followed in hopes that the man could help him with his current predicament.

As he got to the roof the man in the bat suit pulled out some type of razor end boomerang from his belt.

"Whoa look buddy I'm not here to fight. I was kind of hoping you could help me" Spider-Man said as he held his arms up, hoping the bat would hear him out.

"Who are you?" That was all the man said as he seemed to analyze Peter, who also did the same. "Your outfit does not match with the Militia's. What brings you to Gotham?"

"Militia? Why are there hired mercenaries here?" The man in red was confused by the question. And this obviously didn't sit well with The Batman.

"You're not with the Arkham Knight then." Who is this Arkham Knight he speaks of?

The man reaches out to where his ear would be under the cowl. He seemed to be talking with someone

Spider-Man took this time to look more carefully at the man's suit and realized the complexity of it, the fiber mesh bodysuit was a multi woven system that could either harden in response to impact or be extremely flexible. It made Peter take a mental note to upgrade his suit next time, heck, the suit he found from Felicia's hideout was nothing compared to this.

"Alfred, I found the source of the anomaly you mentioned earlier. It's a man around Robin's age, he's wearing a type of red and blue compression suit. I'm sending data to the batcomputer, find out what it is." Batman said as he turned on his Detective Vision.

"Odd. I can't find any reports from the database about such a figure." Alfred said as Batman immediately raised his guard, the boy was indeed an anomaly. "Master Bruce, try to gather more information if possible, any slip up would help."

"Will do, Alfred." Batman responded as he noticed that the Spider Themed hero seemed to be alert, he noticed his shift. "Or maybe it's something far more complicated," Bruce muttered to himself.

"I'll let you know what I'll discover".

Batman hangs up and looks at Spider-Man. "You've never heard of Gotham before have you?" Batman asked.

Spider-Man nodded and responded. "I have a theory that I might have traveled between dimensions. Either that or I'm in a really vivid AR simulation"

"Follow me and stay close." Batman ordered in a strict tone. He walked to the edge of the building and jumped down.

Spider-Man followed him and started web swinging through the city again. On the way they saw some street thugs stealing a car and Spider-Man stopped following Batman and went to stop the carjacking.

He jumped on top of the car and the thugs inside it screamed. "Oh God, it's the freakin Bat!"

"Guess again." Spider-Man quipped as he shot webbing to light posts before he grabbed the man who was driving and threw him out of the car and to the webbing.

He then used his webs to slow down the car from speeding any further. The moment he stopped his spider sense went off and he ducked a punch from behind. He then swept the thugs legs and shot webs to pin him down.

"What the hell is this stuff?!" The thug wrapped up shouted

"Webbing that I developed myself but I don't think you wanna know.", Spider-Man quipped.

The other two thugs charged at the spider, but they were no match for his quick reflexes and web bombs.

"Guess you could call this a sticky situation, am I right?" Spider-Man joked but nobody laughed, instead he only got groans

"Tough crowd." He commented.

As he was about to leave Batman glided down to where he was and he wasn't happy. Though that made Peter think that stoicism was this guy's deal.

"Do you always talk this much?" Batman said as he looked over at Spider-Man's work. "What compound is that?"

"Can't really tell my secrets like that." Peter said as he pointed at Bruce, the implication was obvious as was Bruce talking pictures of the webbing to analyze later.

"Sorry, but these guys were robbing that car and I couldn't let them do that." Spider-Man said

Batman saw the results of the fight and said nothing aside from nodding, he would have done the same. Unbeknownst to Spider-Man, a certain deceased clown commented on the situation.

"Ugh, Bats, this kid is just your first Boy Wonder all over again." said Joker. "Although points for being Patriotic I guess."

Batman once again told Spider-Man to stay close as the two leave towards the GCPD.

Batman pushed a button on his gauntlet and after he pushed it with the sound of an engine approaching Peter took a defensive stance as a big tank came out of nowhere and Batman jumped inside it. Spider-Man was in awe at how the tank looked. It made him wonder why Batman got all the cool stuff while he had to rely on scraps and metal. The back side of the Batmobile opened and Peter knew that was gonna be his seat.

Spider-Man got on one of the seats. As the backside closed the Batmobile sped through the streets and it was really fast. On the way Spider-Man heard electric currents coming from the outside and some screams.

Once the car stopped it opened and revealed where they stopped. Spider-Man saw that they were in a parking lot of a police station. In front of the police station was a car and an old man with a beard talking on the radio.

"I'll have to hang up, Batman arrived." Jim said as he put the radio back.

He turned around and saw Spider-Man.

"Who's this guy? A new friend?" Asked Jim.

"No." Batman responded

"Just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man passing by for a tour. Pleased to meet you, officer." Spider-Man said as he shook the hand of the police commissioner.

"Commissioner Jim Gordon. Spider-Man huh? Never heard of you. Are you here to help us with our current situation?" Jim said.

"Jim, we need to talk. Spider-Man, you should go inside the station and tell the officer Aaron Cash that I sent you." Batman instructed. "He will know what to do."

"Uh okay. Also nice meeting you, Commissioner." Spider-Man said as he went inside the station.

When he got in he saw a couple of guards looking at him funny and some prisoners in jail cells. Some of the thugs commented on Spider-Man's suit and threatened to hurt him if he's working for Batman.

"So much hostility." Spider-Man said out loud for all to hear.

He got into the main office and as he got in a couple of officers halted him and asked him for identification. Spider-Man told them that Batman sent him and if any of them knew Aaron Cash.

"That'd be me.", Aaron said. Spider-Man saw the man he was looking for and noticed the hook hand. He didn't want to ask what happened since he didn't know if it was a touchy topic or not. Cash ordered the officers to stand down.

"My name is Aaron Cash; welcome to the GCPD" Aaron introduced himself.

"Nice to meet you Mr. Cash, the name's Spider-Man and Batman, told me to ask for you." Spider-Man explained.

"You his new sidekick or something? I've never seen you before." asked Aaron.

"I'm sort of new in town. From what I've seen so far this city looks like it's in some kind of big trouble." Spider-Man commented.

"You don't know the half of it", Aaron responded.

Aaron explained what was going on in the city currently. Talked about: Scarecrow, the Arkham Knight, and the Militia.

Spider-Man was surprised at how bad the situation was. It kind of reminded him of when he had to fight the sinister six and find the cure for Devil's Breath. He saw a screen of some wanted criminals and asked who they were.

Cash explained who each of them were. Spider-Man noticed some similarities between Batman's enemies and his. Riddler seemed a sociopathic form of Screwball in a way with how he tended to annoy Batman and the City with his riddles.

Spider-Man looked at his surroundings and was surprised to see a red headed woman with a light shade green tone to her skin in a holding cell.

"So what are you in for?" Spider-Man approached as he looked at her, she was only wearing a red blouse and dark green underwear. "Probably messy wardrobe."

"Interesting. Never seen you before, did Batman get a new partner? " Poison Ivy said as she stretched her hands in a yawn.

"Is everyone gonna start saying that?" Spider-Man asked as he had a feeling more of that would come. And he would be getting annoyed with people calling him Batman's sidekick.

"If you must know I was taken by Scarecrow. He tried to use me as a guinea pig for his new fear toxin, but he should've known that it wouldn't work on me." Ivy explained.

"So what's your story? Got bit by a radioactive plant and gained the powers of nature?" Spider-Man chuckled at his own quip.

"Very funny. Batman really knows how to pick his sidekicks", Ivy remarked on purpose with a smirk.

"Don't make me spray you with weed killer." Spider-Man fake threats.

He walked away and ended up in an evidence room full of Batman's rogues gallery.

"Man, he's got a lot of villains." Spider-Man commented.

He eventually walked back to Aaron Cash.

"I wonder what Batman is doing. I feel like I should be out there helping.", Spider-Man commented.

Before Aaron could answer him, the phone rang and Cash answered it.

"On my way", answered Cash before he hung up.

"Who was that?", Spider-Man asked.

"It was commissioner Gordon, his daughter was taken by Scarecrow and the Arkham Knight", said Cash.

After hearing that Spider-Man immediately walked out of the precinct.

"Wait. Where are you going?", Cash asked.

"I'm going to help Batman. Where's the nearest exit?", Spider-Man said in a pained voice.

"If you want to get out you might want to take the elevator." Cash said as he pointed to where the elevator was.

"Thanks, officer Aaron." Spider-Man said as went inside the elevator.

"Good luck, Spider-Man", Aaron muttered.

He got out and started swinging through the city. He had no idea where Batman was, but still continued his search for him. He saw the Batmobile drive by and landed next to it.

The Batmobile opened and Batman asked. "What are you doing here?"

"I'm here to help. I won't sit on the sidelines while people get hurt." Spider-Man said with a steel resolve.

Batman responded with, "Are you sure you can handle this?"

The Wall Crawler simply shrugged it off. "Oh please, I've had my fair share of criminal agents like this too. You're not talking me out of this."

The Caped Crusader seemed to ponder for a bit and nodded.

"Very well. Use this to keep in contact with me." Batman instructed as he handed Peter a communication device.

"Alright let's get to stopping the bad guys", Spider-Man said with his usual enthusiastic tone.

As Batman drove through the streets Spider-Man followed behind via web swinging. They officially started a new partnership.
