Spider-Man: Edge of Arkham
Chapter 2: Teamwork
To Kival737101:
1) Yes. This is that version of Peter.
2) I noticed that no one else has done it before so I thought I'd try.
3) Stay tuned
Once again I don't own any of the characters. They're all Marvel and DC property.
As both heroes were making their way through the streets, Spider-Man flipped and jumped around the buildings in a free run as Batman trailed with the Batmobile.
With the new communicator sounding Spider-Man asked. "So who's this Arkham Knight I kept hearing about? Why did he kidnap the Commissioner's daughter?"
Batman looked pensive as he responded, "I haven't discovered his motives either. Scarecrow hired him and the Militia to aid a multitude of criminals tonight, whoever he might be, he's dangerous." Batman then pushed a number of keys on the Batmobile's personal keypad to send data to Spider-Man's communication device. "He had knowledge on my tactics and even knew the strengths and weaknesses of my armor from a single glance."
Wide lenses didn't even begin to describe Peter's surprise as he watched footage that Batman managed to record. "This is sooo gonna be a long night…" Was all Peter could say.
As Batman drove through the streets he scanned the highway from where Barbara was taken before he contacted Alfred.
"Alfred, I want the Arkham Knight's name. Get me a list of inmates who escaped Arkham City after the death of Hugo Strange", Batman ordered.
Spider-Man overheard the conversation and wondered who Hugo Strange was and what happened in Arkham City, but his train of thought got interrupted when a jet flew by and shot something into the floor.
"Whoa, what was that?", Spider-Man asked as he landed. He went to get a closer look at it as it just looked like a giant beaming disk that was beeping with red light. It was a bomb.
Batman stepped out of the Batmobile and carefully approached it. He reaches out for a device before placing it on top of the landmine.
"What are you doing?" Spider-Man asked with a head tilt.
Batman simply ignored his question and placed his fingers on his cowl in order to contact Alfred to report the events.
"It's a bomb Alfred, a well armored one", Batman informed his butler.
Alfred responded to his statement and asked if it was wise to be so close to it. Spider-Man interrupted the conversation by stating "Something tells me that this bomb is remote controlled. It won't go off until someone pulls the trigger." He then looked at the bomb. "Although…I'm not sure if I could just chuck it, I might blow it by accident."
Alfred asked Peter how he knew that and Peter simply shrugged and said "Not the first time I've dealt with bombs and demolition" Which wasn't a complete lie back home he often had to disable bombs before they went off.
The Web Head then remembered that he didn't even introduce himself yet. "Hi, I'm Spider-Man and you must be the famous Alfred I heard so much about." Alfred had to stifle a chuckle at Peter's sense of humor, it reminded him of Master Grayson.
"I'm going to set up a remote link to the Batcomputer and hit it with a virus to break it down, once that is done I'll be able to defuse it with a controlled explosion." Batman states as he prepared the Batmobile to insert the viral agent.
Spider-Man was impressed at how the Batmobile had all those cool features and said, "Where can I get one of those?" He then saw some militia drones come to their location. Batman quickly got back into the Batmobile.
"Well looks like we got company. What's the plan?" asked the wall crawler as he looked back and saw his partner already in the vehicle.
Spider-Man let his shoulders down before jumping on to a balcony nearby. " Looks like I'll have to sit this one out. Would be nice to have my own tank right about now." Spider-Man mumbled under his breath.
He swung up to a building to dodge an upcoming shell that drilled through an exhaustion pipe. He looked down to see the Batmobile turn into some war tank with a wider wheel base, and higher ground clearance. Featuring various weapons and movement capabilities, including a Vulcan Minigun, 60mm Cannon, Missiles,non-lethal riot suppressors, full 360 wheel spin and the ability to strafe with built in thrusters.
"The Spider Jeep sure sounds underwhelming now." Peter noted, seriously impressed at the Batmobile's awesome features.
As the Militia drones started firing at the billion dollar tank Spider-Man noticed how easily Batman was able to avoid getting hit by them. "Does he have some sort of Spider-Sense? The Bat Sense doesn't sound as iconic…" Peter commented, as he observed the Militia drones surrounding the Bat Tank. Batman then shot a barrage of missiles at all the remaining militia tanks wiping them out. The Batmobile then turned back to the way it looked before and a power winch was shot from the front giving an electric current to control the detonation frequency of the bomb.
After the bomb exploded Peter jumped down and clapped for Batman.
"That was impressive dude. Kind of sucks that I couldn't do much." Peter said.
"Follow me." Was all the Dark Knight stated as the Batmobile drove off with Spider-Man swinging right behind.
Batman continued on his way to find Barbara and Spider-Man kept following him. They both came to a stop at a bridge that was lifted up. It leads to another Island called Miagani Island.
"What do we do? "asked Spider-Man.
The Dark Knight got out of the vehicle and explained to the Wall Crawler "I'm going to lower the bridge to Miagani Island. Their access point is at Gotham Avenue Station."
"Great plan. Need a lift?" Spider-Man quipped. Batman shot his grapple gun to the air and zipped up. Spider-Man chuckled awkwardly and muttered "Probably dumb of me to offer that."
He followed Batman through Miagani Island and saw how this city was filled with more drones than usual and lots of searchlights and towers filled with Militia soldiers. He wondered why there were so many? Both men made sure to avoid being seen.
They both landed far from the station. Bruce looked at Spider-Man and went over the plan. "The place is crawling with militia guards, we need to clear them out and find their access point".
"Alright, sneaky time", Spider-Man quietly said. Both got into position and prepared to take out the soldiers quietly. Batman got down and took down one of the guards quietly. He got up to one of the vantage points and signaled the Wall Crawler to take out the guy in front of him.
Peter swung to the next vantage point and shot a web at a lone guard and dragged him up and whispered. "Tag, you're frozen." After that he webbed the man to the wall when the guard tried to call for help Spider-Man webbed his mouth shut. "Your buddy's trying to take a nap."
Batman took some guards out quickly and grappled back up to some vantage points to hide. Spider-Man took the opportunity to use his web mine to trap some militia guards. When the guard got closer to the web mine it pulled him to a wall and encased him in webs.
He struggled to get free and shouted. "What the hell is this stuff?!"
The other guard came to his aid. "Hold on, I'll get you out."
Before he could do that Batman grabbed the man from behind and knocked him out cold. Spider-Man got down and gave him a thumbs up. "Nice work."
Batman went to the terminal and used the computer to gain control of the bridges. Spider-Man stuck to the wall and asked, "What's the plan regarding bringing me back to my world?"
Batman typed into a computer as he answered the Web Slinger's question. "I'm still working on that. It might take a while to bring you back."
Spider-Man breathed a sigh of relief and said in a fake Southern accent. "So long as I get back to Kansas." He looked to see if Batman would laugh, but no such luck.
"Really? Nothing?" Spidey asked, kind of disappointed. "Ok I'll admit, that was a bad one."
"Don't bother kid, I've tried to get him to laugh and got no results either." The ghost of Joker commented.
Batman contacted Alfred through his cowl, "Alfred I've re-enabled the bridges you should have access now."
"Marvelous, I'm rebooting the network now." Alfred replied.
Suddenly a distorted voice came out of nowhere and challenged the Caped Crusader. "Forget Scarecrow, it's time to face your one true nemesis, Dark Knight."
"Who was that?" Spider-Man asked as he approached Batman.
"Nigma." The Dark Knight said humorlessly, he then shifted his gaze towards Alfred. "Contact me when you're ready with the bridge Alfred." He then hung up.
Spider-Man went to the source of the voice and saw a man with brunette hair, some round goggles, a green overshirt with a lot of question marks over a white undershirt. The man was very thin and seemed to not have been sleeping for days.
"Riddle me this, why would a Batman visit an orphanage?" The Riddler questioned in a rhetorical form.
The screen shows a woman in a leather catsuit blindfolded to an electric chair. Spider-Man had no idea who this guy was, but he can already tell that the guy was insane.
"Come to the orphanage, Detective and you might be able to save her." Riddler said in a sadistically menacing tone.
"We have to go save her." Spider-Man said, prepared to swing to the orphanage. "Whoever she might be."
"She calls herself Catwoman. She's a partner, I'll head to the orphanage but you will be here." Batman states as he prepares his grappling hook
That didn't sit well with Peter, it was as if his Spider-Sense was telling him this was a trap for the Caped Crusader. He looked at the Dark Knight. "This could be a trap, wouldn't it be better if I came along?"
"It's exactly why I want you to stay here, we may have partnered up but I still do not know your full capabilities. It can hinder us in case Riddler has a trap." Batman then took a moment to think and began to press some buttons on his gauntlet that confused the Wall Crawler until the Caped Crusader looked at him and explained "I disabled the Batmobile defenses which will allow you to use it and continue the search for Barbara Gordon and the Arkham Knight."
Spider-Man's lenses readjusted in a blinking motion as this set in. "You're not joking are you?"
Batman contacted Alfred and said, "Alfred. I need you to help guide Spider-Man in finding Barbara. He'll be using the Batmobile, he'll need instructions about the Batmobile's functions."
Spider-Man gave a wide lens look at Batman and was at a loss for words. "You're not joking."
Alfred responded,"Are you sure, sir? This seems quite unusual for you to entrust someone to drive the Batmobile."
Batman then responded. "Riddler has captured Catwoman. I can reach the orphanage faster by air but the Batmobile is necessary to find Barbara. I won't be able to do both and knowing Riddler's instability he might kill her if I don't show up or if Spider-Man shows up in my place.''
"Very well sir, as you wish" Alfred replied and then spoke to Spider-Man, "Spider-Man I'll need you to head back to where the Batmobile was left."
Spider-Man saluted, "I won't let you down." Before Batman went off to deal with Riddler. Spider-Man asked him "Will you be alright handling this Riddler guy?"
Batman without looking back at the Web Head simply replied "Don't worry. I've dealt with him before multiple times."
He prepared to swing back to the bridge, but before that he told Batman. "Good luck." But by the time he turned around he saw that Batman had already left. "Could have said something." Was all that Peter said before jumping off the station and started to swing back to the other side of the bridge.
Spider-Man got to the bridge and contacted Alfred through the ear piece. "I'm at the bridge, you can lower it now." The Batmobile opens and the Web Slinger jumps ready to face whatever challenge may appear.
"Sir, Alpha Target has lowered the bridge and is heading to Miagani Island!" Militia soldier announced to the Arkham Knight.
"He's trying to find the commissioner's daughter. Stop him from going any further!" A distorted voice that reminded Peter of RoboCop ordered his men.
"Spider-Man, I'll guide you along the way. Be ready", Alfred spoke. Peter grabbed the wheel and was told to hold down the left trigger in order to shift the Batmobile into its Combat Mode. 5 drones appeared and started shooting at the Batmobile. Peter struggled to not get hit as he attempted to dodge, but he was grazed by a few shells. He thought to himself. "Batman, I hope everything's going smoothly on your end…And That you won't be mad at me for ruining the paint job."
He shot the final drone and wiped the invisible sweat from his mask. He heard the Arkham Knight get upset about the drones being destroyed.
"You can't stop me, RoboCop.", Spider-Man quipped.
This made the Arkham Knight sound surprised that someone else was driving the Batmobile. He asked. "I'm surprised he let someone drive his prized possession. But I can't write off him having a new favorite, was his other Robin too disappointing and he decided to get a new one?" This Arkham Knight was angry, and this type of anger was personal, too personal with how specific he worded things.
"Name's Spider-Man and it looks like you have a new target to deal with." Spider-Man said in a snarky tone but inside he was still worried. Now he just had to keep a bravado.
The Arkham Knight responded, "I don't know who you are, but I'll make sure you'll regret siding with that coward." He then hung up.
Spider-Man muttered, "I've made many mistakes in the past and this isn't one of them." He then drove off to follow the tracks. He scanned and scanned through the streets and noticed that the tracks sort of swerved off the road. He was confused and got out of the car.
He contacted Alfred and told him what he found. "Alfred, I think I found the truck that took Barbara. I'm going to investigate and be sure to let Bats know where I am." Alfred replied before he hung up "Can do, sir. Excellent work."
When he got out and saw that one of the Militia jeeps crashed. He web zipped to the top of the vehicle to see if he could find any survivors. When he saw that there was no one inside he breathed a sigh of relief. "But where's the girl?" Spider-Man wondered.
He then heard a voice from behind say, "Did you find anything?" Peter screamed a bit as he heard Batman talk.
"Where did you come from!" Spider-Man asked but then took a deep breath and explained what he found. 'Why didn't my Spider-Sense go off?' Peter thought in his mind.
Batman looked around the scene of the crime and looked at Peter saying "I'll set up a crime scene to see what happened." Peter tilted his head at what he meant before lenses slid down in the cowl before glowing white. Which in Peter's opinion it made Batman look extremely imposing if met in a dark alley late a- Ohhhh, so that's why.
Batman activated his detective vision and everything around turned blue and it scanned the area to replay what had happened. He saw that the car swerved off the road and crashed. As he replayed the scene he saw that a soldier flew right out the front window. He downloaded the scene to Spider-Man so that he could see for himself. He winced under his mask at how the driver just flew off the front window.
The Dark Knight then walked to where the body landed and saw the militia guard. Dead on the floor as indicated by the detective vision. "He's dead" was all Bruce said.
"Were there more people inside the Jeep?" Peter asked as he viewed the footage again. Batman began to scan the body and saw something on the driver's face that might give him a clue on what caused the car to swerve off the road.
"The driver has traces of pepper spray on the right side of his face. Barbara must have been in the passenger seat." Batman spoke as he took slow but heavy steps around the crime scene to make sure he wouldn't miss details.
As Spider-Man was watching Batman find some clues he decided to look around and see if he could find something important. Looking around towards a bench with vases he saw a bullet hole in the ground. With a signal of his hand Batman was informed of the find. The Dark Knight walked over to where Spider-Man was and scanned the bullet trajectory with the impact made. "This bullet was a warning shot from the Arkham Knight he must've been riding in the backseat when the car swerved off the road. Barbara tried to make a break for it, but she couldn't go too far."
Spider-Man was starting to get worried about where the Arkham Knight took Barbara Gordon. He didn't take kindly to people who use loved ones as a hostage. While Batman kept scanning the area Peter replayed the footage in his lenses. He noticed that when Barbara was crawling she threw something to the side. He retraced the steps she took in order to see what she threw. He kneeled down and lifted a wooden box and found a chip.
"Uh Batman, I think I found a clue. "Spider-Man said as he showed the chip to Batman.
Batman took the chip, inspected it and placed it in his gauntlet. He contacted Lucius Fox, "Lucius, Oracle left me this scrambler device at the scene of the crash. Decrypt the data to track down the Arkham Knight", Batman requested.
"This type of thing is usually Ms. Gordon's expertise, it may take me a while to decrypt it, but I'll see what I can do." Lucius responded. Peter heard Batman talk to some man named Lucius and decided to offer his services. "If you need help with decrypting it I'd be willing to help. I'm pretty handy with technology."
"Who was that?" Lucius asked, all confused at the new voice.
"This is Spider-Man, he's helping me find Oracle." Batman explained.
"Pleasure to meet you Mr. Fox. It's always nice to meet new people." Spider-Man greeted.
Mr. Fox chuckled at Spider-Man's optimistic personality. "Likewise", Lucius replied and then offered an invitation. "I appreciate the offer but I think I can manage."
"Okay then ", Peter simply replied.
Batman nodded and then contacted Alfred to inform him that he was going to Wayne Tower. He went to the Batmobile and got in. Spider-Man asked if he could come too and Batman was hesitant, but allowed him to tag along.
Both men went on their way to the tower, but unbeknownst to the wall crawler Batman contacted Alfred to ask about the update on the universal transporter.
Alfred explained, "It's almost completed sir, I've asked Mister Kent to give me the coordinates to Spider-Man's universe, but he's still searching for it."
"Keep me updated on it." Bruce said as steered the wheel to a curve.
Batman then ejected out of the Batmobile and practically flew to the top of Wayne Tower. He saw that Spider-Man was running to the top of the tower, but still got there first.
Spider-Man panted after running all the way up to the tower. He thought to himself, "I'm starting to miss my web wings"
Batman typed something in his gauntlet and the door opened. Both walked inside and Peter was amazed at the interior of his office. He saw a dark skinned man in a business suit holding a tablet welcoming them both to the tower. Spider-Man immediately recognized that the man was Mr. Fox and shook his hand. He then saw how the office had fine marble floors, the mahogany wooden desk, and the mini bar in the corner of the office. "Whoa. I wish I had an office like this back home." Peter said with a hint of envy.
Lucius chuckled at the Wall Crawler's admiration and extended his hand. "Greetings Mr. Spider-Man, I'm Lucius Fox." Lucius took the Wall Crawler's hand and shook it. Their meet and greet was cut short by Batman who asked the former if he finished decrypting the scrambler device.
"Fully decoded. I've even downloaded all recent militia radio transmission and their corresponding coordinates to your machine.", Lucius explained.
Peter was honestly impressed at how Lucius managed to decode the encryption in such a short amount of time. He wondered if Wayne Tech was hiring new employees. He then went to the computer that Batman was on and saw the radio transmission of the Arkham Knight.
"Looks like the Militia are in the tunnel system of Miagani Island." Spider-Man told Batman and then turned to Lucius and asked. "Could you download this information so that the two of us can keep track of the Arkham Knight and his goons?"
Mr. Fox nodded and did exactly that. Peter simply thanked the man for decrypting the data. Batman then pulled Lucius aside to talk about features for the Batmobile and about something else. While they were talking Peter saw an answering machine with many voice messages on it. Out of respect for the owner he chose not to hear any of the messages.
He then reaches into his belt to refill his webs shooters, but finds that he only has a few left. "I'm almost out of webs." Batman then walked over to the bookshelf and moved the head of a bust and it scanned Bruce. After that two pillars popped up out of the floor revealing a bat suit he wore earlier and his gadgets armory.
"I was hoping to keep this under wraps until she was ready. Next generation Disruptor. She's weeks from being completed, but I hope you'd like a working prototype." Lucius demonstrated the disruptor. Peter noticed how the design looked like a rifle with a collapsible stock. Lucius then looked at Spider-Man and told him "I believe these might help you with your web situation." He showed the Wall Crawler a blueprint for some new web-shooters. The design consisted of a black bracers with a trigger that led to his palm. Peter was impressed at the design, Lucius explained that they were made of the same material as the vambraces Batman's former suit on display was made out of, but they seemed a bit more flexible, obviously due to being less bulky and more sleek.
Bruce stepped in and explained "I had Lucius make those for you earlier by reutilizing the material from an older damaged suit, I originally planned to use the titanium Kevlar mesh on another device but it's clear you needed it in your situation." Bruce said as Peter processed the information. He then commented, "The titanium Kevlar fiber mesh would connect to the Carbon Fibers of the white plates on my forearm and hand perfectly."
Peter's lenses adjusted to a wider look as he imagined the difference, a lot of the times he worried whenever something might hit or crush his web shooters, especially when someone was stronger than him but this? They felt like they were gonna hold up well…
But there was still one issue and Peter looked directly at the Dark Knight for it. "They are nice but like, I would still need their cartridges for them to actually be of usage."
Bruce then assured him that he already took care of that. Spider-Man was confused at what the Dark Knight meant by that, but he got the feeling that he was in for a surprise later.
"We should move on with the mission." Batman stated which snapped Spidey back to reality.
"Oh snap, you're right. Mr. Fox, it was a pleasure meeting you." Peter shook the man's hand before he and Batman exited the tower.
"Take care gentlemen, if you need anything else you know where to find me", Lucius said as he waved goodbye to them. As both dived down from the tower Spider-Man aimed his web-shooters at a nearby building and shot his web line. He jumped out of the balcony and started swinging around Miagani Island.
Batman contacted Alfred as he glided through the air. "Alfred, we tracked the Arkham Knight to the Miagani tunnel system."
"Excellent news, sir, but I'm detecting a lot of drones in that area and it would be folly to engage without the Batmobile." Alfred expressed his concern.
"Don't worry Alfred, something tells me he's already three steps ahead of that." Spider-Man theorized while swinging. He's known Batman for a couple of hours and he can already tell that he's pretty contingent with his plans.
"Shall I open the south entrance?" Alfred asked.
"Hold off until we get there Alfred. I don't want to spoil the surprise." Batman stated as he landed near a rooftop. Peter then landed shortly after and both looked down at the entrance and saw the drones guarding it.
"These guys really think they can keep us out. Tsk. Tsk. Looks like it's up to you to deal with them again." Peter commented but as he looked next to him he saw that Batman was already in his Batmobile. "Is this going to be a regular thing?" Spidey said in an annoyed tone with slouched shoulders.
The Dark Knight got in the car and turned it into Battle Mode immediately sending a barrage of missiles at each of the drones. The Dark Knight drove to the south entrance of the tunnel system and Spidey followed right behind him.
Spider-Man contacted Alfred and asked to open the south entrance. It took Alfred a minute but he opened the gate. The Batmobile drove in and they were met with another closed gate. Bruce asked Alfred to open it, but unfortunately the loyal butler stated that he got locked out of the system.
Spidey pondered on how they were going to get inside. Suddenly his thoughts got interrupted as he saw the Batmobile pull out a big fan from the top of the entrance.
"That's one way of breaking and entering" Spider-Man quipped hoping to get a laugh out of the Dark Knight. As usual he was met with silence. "I'll get you to laugh at my jokes. I swear it." Both made their way in, but Batman stayed behind a bit to make a quick call.
Peter saw some boarded up walls and simply said in an exaggerated Brooklyn accent "It's clobberin' time" and punched his way in. He thought to himself 'I hope Ben doesn't mind me borrowing his catchphrase'
Batman informed Spider-Man to go on ahead and that he needed to make a call. Peter walked in and saw a gate with some buttons on it, but what really caught his attention was a power fan that was spinning fast. Spider-Man looked to his left and saw a generator in the corner nearby and immediately deduced that it was the way to power down the fan. He swung over to it and used his electric webs to overcharge it.
As soon as he finished he received a call from Batman. "Change of plans, I'll stay in the Batmobile and you open the gate from the inside. Don't let anyone see you. Stay out of sight", the Dark Knight instructed.
"Trust me I don't think these militia men are smart enough to look up", Peter commented. After Bats hung up the Wall Crawler went ahead with the plan. He perched on top of a metal beam and saw all the Militia men and the tanks. He wondered in his head, 'How do these guys afford all this?'
He crawled on the ceiling in order to get to the control room without being seen. He surprisingly got in undetected and as he thought that he was in the clear his spider sense went off. He looked at where the danger was and saw someone he didn't expect to see. What Peter saw could be described as a military version of Batman with a big A on his chest and some cargo camouflage pants and some gun holsters.
"Well. Well well. Looks like we finally meet face to face. Didn't expect for the old man to team up with someone like you.", The Arkham Knight commented as he kept his gun pointing at the Wall Crawler.
"Listen buddy I know that imitation is the greatest form of flattery, but the robot voice is kinda overkill. Makes you sound like Robocop", Spider-Man quipped while glaring.
"We got a real comedian over here.", Arkham Knight replied in a cold tone.
Peter shot a web at the gun, but the Arkham Knight avoided it quickly and shot at the Wall Crawler. With his spider sense warning him of the bullets and he dodged them. Arkham Knight took the opportunity to attempt to punch Peter square in the face, but the latter caught his fist quickly.
Spider-Man headbutted the Knight in the face, but it ended up giving him a headache.
'Ok that was dumb', Peter thought as he shook his head quickly.
When the Arkham Knight pointed his gun at the spider again, something hit the pistol and caused him to shoot somewhere else. Peter looked to his right and on the floor he saw a batarang. Then he turned to his left and saw that the Dark Knight was in the room.
"You always show up when people least expect you to. Not when you're really needed.", The Arkham Knight commented in a somber tone.
He then called in the rest of the militia to attack both heroes. Batman tried to throw a batarang at the Knight, but the latter disappeared in a puff of smoke before the former could throw it. The militia men entered the control room and surrounded both heroes. The team consisted of one brute, two ninjas, and some other soldiers.
"You take the ones on the right and I'll take the ones on the left", Spider-Man quipped as both he and Batman got into fighting positions.
The Dark Knight didn't respond to his comment and immediately took out the big brute by jumping on him and cutting the wire to a ceiling lamp to knock him out. Spider sense started to tingle and Peter saw one of the ninjas attempt to slice and dice him, he dodged each attempt and webbed the ninja in the eyes to temporarily blind him. He then shot a web past the ninja making it look like he missed, but he caught a crate and yanked it to where the blinded ninja was and knocked him out. Before the web slinger subdued his opponent one of the soldiers tried to attack him from behind, but Peter was too quick for that and swept the legs webbed both of his opponents down.
Meanwhile Batman was taking out the rest on his own with ease. Spider-Man noticed how skilled a fighter the Dark Knight is. Before Spider-Man could compliment the Caped Crusader some more militia men showed up.
"They just never learn do they?", Spider-Man quipped as he shot a web line at two militia soldiers and yanked both lines together causing both men to get knocked out cold.
Batman then did the same environmental takedown on the other brute knocking him out. He then grabbed a militia soldier and tossed him to where Spider-Man was and the web slinger sensed the oncoming body and performed a backflip takedown. Unfortunately, they weren't out of the park yet as a medic came in to heal the knocked out soldiers.
"Hey no white mages allowed, that's cheating!" Spider-Man quipped and web yanked the medic, performed a mid air roundhouse kick on the medic and then webbed him to the wall.
"Stick around", he joked, hoping that would get a laugh out of Batman.
Batman finally took out the last soldier with a quick punch. Both heroes looked at how many soldiers they took out. Peter was about to celebrate their victory, but he got interrupted by one of the drone tanks that attempted to enter the control room, but it couldn't fit through the door.
"You're not the only one who can bring a tank to a fistfight. You're just the only one who's afraid to use live rounds", The Arkham Knight commented.
Batman went to a control panel and rewired it to open the gate that kept the Batmobile out.
"This guy really thinks that you're trapped down here? Oh what an amateur. If he's known you as long as I have he'd know that a punt tank won't stop Batman", the ghost of Joker commented.
The tank went into battle mode and destroyed each drone with ease. As the tank finished destroying the drones it reverted back to its original mode.
"Time to rescue Oracle and make the Arkham Knight pay", Batman muttered as he rushed to the car.
Spider-Man cracked his knuckles and quipped, "Let's ride", He then began to swing through the caves.
As Batman got inside the batmobile he received a call from Alfred. Spider-Man saw a big door blocking their way and went to open it. He rewired the fuse box the same way Batman did in the control room and that caused the gate to open.
"Dammit they're here. Open the doors!" The Arkham Knight said as he got in a car and started to drive away.
Some militia soldiers with guns attempted to keep the two heroes at bay by shooting at them. Spider-Man avoided all the bullets and web yanked both their guns then trapped both of them near some cars with a web bomb.
"Stick around", Spider-Man quipped before he swung into the chase.
Batman while driving managed to avoid enemy fire and shot at the militia cars. The militia attempted to drive Batman off the road, but Spider-Man interfered. He swung to the roof of each car and took out the drivers. He disarmed the soldiers then left them hanging near a lamp post that they drove by.
After dealing with each of the other militia Spider-Man attempted to slow down the car that had Barbara. He swung ahead of the car and landed in the middle of the road. The car was prepared to run the Web Head over, but Peter was quick enough to form a big spider web to trap the car in place. The Batmobile stopped and Batman stepped out of the vehicle.
"One of my finest works if I do say so myself", Spider-Man quipped in a posh tone. As usual Batman ignored his joke and went straight towards the Arkham Knight who turned out to be a fake.
Spider-Man saw that the driver was fake and said, "Are you kidding me?! We've been chasing after the wrong guy this whole time?"
Batman picked up the fake Arkham Knight and took out his voice box. The militia guard that pretended to be the Arkham Knight mocked both heroes for chasing after the wrong man. Batman pinned the man to the ground and started to interrogate him. He refused to comply and that's when Spider-Man stepped in and tried to reason with him.
"Listen buddy we could do this the easy way or the hard way. Your choice.", Spider-Man told the pinned militia soldier.
Batman then received an incoming message from the real Arkham Knight.
"You think I didn't know you were tracking my broadcast location? Here's a lesson Batman: I know how you think, which means I know how to beat you.", The Arkham Knight said before he hung up.
Spider-Man was irritated at how almost every villain always had a trick up their sleeves when it comes to avoiding capture. It reminded him of the time he fought a mercenary that had a skull mask and could copy his every move just by watching. Can the Arkham Knight do that too? Hopefully not.
Batman once again attempted to get answers from the pinned soldier, but didn't get the answers he needed. Then the Dark Knight pushed some buttons on his gauntlet which caused the Batmobile to drive closer to where the pinned soldier was.
The lenses on Peter's mask widened as he saw the Batmobile being pulled up automatically. The wheel of the Batmobile was being pressed against the soldier's head. The soldier was pleading for Batman to stop. Peter did not envy the man's current situation.
Bruce once again asked, "Where is he?!".
The soldier responded that the Arkham Knight was going to see the Penguin and that the Knight went to pay him for his services for supplying safe-houses.
"There, was that so hard to do?" Spider-Man quipped in a mocking tone. However, Batman kept using the extreme interrogation method.
"What are you doing?" Spider-Man asked, showing concern for the criminal.
The soldier then stated that he remembered something else. He added that the Penguin uses a refrigeration unit to distribute weapons throughout the city. Batman asked the name of the refrigeration unit and the soldier told him that it was called "North Refrigeration".
"Thank you", Batman said before he knocked the soldier out cold.
Spider-Man was surprised at how brutal Batman was with his interrogations. Batman called Alfred about the information that he got from the soldier. Spider-Man went to refill his web-shooters, but saw that he was almost out of cartridges. On cue Lucius called Batman to inform him about an upgrade for the Batmobile. Spider-Man then received an unexpected call from Alfred.
"Master Spider-Man I've come to inform you that the webs you use have been manufactured and are ready for deployment if you wish", Alfred told Spider-Man which left the latter surprised a bit.
"How is that possible? Only I know the formula", Spider-Man asked.
Batman cleared his throat and explained, "From when we first met I already took note of analyzing your synthetic silk in order to potentially use it on an old device I had made. It was a glue grenade but its compound barely lasted a week. I figured you'd utilize about 300 PSI to keep the liquid pressurized. The cartridges are also made out of titanium so the pressure has been increased to 900 PSI".
"In other words if I were to shoot my webs it would be the equivalent of shooting a rubber bullet", Spider-Man deduced. He received a nod from Batman as a response.
"Thanks, Bats. You're a lifesaver", the Wall Crawler said in a grateful tone. He then turned to Alfred and said, "Send me the location and I'll pick it up."
Alfred hung up and uploaded the location to the Webheads lenses. Both heroes went to their assigned rendezvous points and received their upgrades. Unfortunately that got the attention of the Militia and sent 16 drones to Batman's location.
Spider-Man, now fully reloaded on webs, went down to help the Dark Knight take out the drones. When a drone was about to launch projectiles at the Batmobile, Peter shot a web line at the missile and threw it back at the drone causing it to blow up.
Spider-Man webbed up the nozzle of some of the drones. Batman took the opportunity to fire a barrage of projectiles at the webbed up drones. "Nice.", Spider-Man complimented the Dark Knight as he continued to aid him.
During the fight the Arkham Knight ordered his men to wreck the car and take out the spider.
"Excuse me, I have to go. There's a crime happening", Spider-Man quipped as he webbed up another drone.
The Arkham Knight replied, "We'll see who gets the last laugh when I take you both down" He then hung up on the Wall Crawler.
"Some people take themselves way too seriously ", Spider-Man quipped, as he webbed up the last few drones that gave Batman the chance to destroy them.
Spider-Man, now next to the Batmobile, went to get a high five from the Dark Knight, but got left hanging. 'That's cold', Peter thought in his head.
Batman asked Alfred about North Refrigeration and the butler informed Bruce that a guy named Nightwing has been investigating them for some time. Batman asked Alfred to tell the former Boy Wonder to send in whatever information he found, but Alfred told Batman that Nightwing insisted on meeting up in person.
"He's grown quite curious about our new friend", Alfred added.
Batman thanked Alfred and hung up. "Who's Nightwing?", asked the spider.
"An old partner. You two have a lot in common", Batman told Spider-Man.
"He got bit by a radioactive animal too?" Spider-Man joked hoping Batman would finally chuckle, but as usual he was met with silence.
The ghost of Joker commented, "Give it up kid I've tried the same thing you're doing and was met with the same results, but I give you points for effort" He then chuckled.
"Let's see what Nightwing has on North Refrigeration. If we find Penguin, we'll find the Arkham Knight", Batman ordered and began to drive to the Ranelagh Ferry Terminal. Spider-Man followed behind.
