"Samantha… Miguel is here!" Amanda called from downstairs.

Taking one last look at herself in the mirror, Sam smiled to herself. It had been a long time since she and Miguel had been on a proper date without any rivals showing up since their schedules were always so busy, so when he'd asked her this morning if she'd wanted to come to the fair with him tonight, she had made the effort to make sure she at least looked good.

She picked up a silky white scarf off her bed and wrapped it around her shoulders, completing her outfit. She'd specially chosen the same blue dress that she had worn the day Miguel had stood up for her against Kyler in the cafeteria, and had thrown a pair of black leggings underneath it, along with a pair of black flat shoes and her baby pink zipper jacket. Feeling beyond ready, she headed out of her bedroom and down the stairs, giddy with excitement over spending some quality time together.

"Hey…" She greeted him nervously.

"Hi, Sam. You look good tonight. Ready to go?" He greeted her.

"Thank you, yeah I'm ready when you are." She answered.

Accepting her answer, Miguel offered out his arm, which she took gladly, before stepping out and closing the door behind her. Once they reached her white BMW, Sam unlocked it and jumped in the driver's side while Miguel hopped in the passenger seat. She waited for him to buckle up first and then clipped in her own seat belt before starting the car up.

"So what do you want to do first?" He asked.

"Hmm… Mini golf?" She suggested.

"Yawn. We did that already on our first date… Come on, think of something good." He prompted.

"Alright, how about the ferris wheel?" She suggested.

"Okay. Now there's an idea." He said, impressed with the suggestion.

With him happy with the idea of the ferris wheel, their conversation came to a conclusion and to fill the silence, Sam turned on the radio. Fortunately, there was not much traffic on the road that evening, and they made it to the fair within half an hour. Once they got in, the first place they headed to was the queue for the ferris wheel as per Sam's suggestion.

Sam rested her head on Miguel's shoulder as they stood at the back of a line that stretched almost all the way to a food stand. She tilted her head back slightly, trying to look up into his eyes. It was then that she noticed him staring off into the near distance. Lifting her head, she raised an eyebrow as she tried to see past all the crowds.

"Miguel…" She called.

He did not respond, just continued to stare into space.

"Miguel…" She said again, this time giving him a nudge.

With him still unresponsive, she sighed in frustration. This was supposed to be their night? So, what was it that he was zoning out on?

"MIGUEL!" She almost screamed at him. Instead, her voice cracked and it came out as a mere squeak.

"Huh? Wha- Oh, Sam… I'm sorry." He apologized sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck with his hand.

"What were you staring at?" She questioned curiously.

"Nothing. Don't worry about it." He dismissed her question.

"Okay." She agreed.

Even though he'd settled the subject, Sam couldn't help but still wonder and throughout the wait of the line, she glanced occasionally in that direction. After a while of not seeing anything interesting, she gave up and refocused on Miguel.

"This queue doesn't seem to be moving at all, do you want to grab something to eat instead and then come back later?" She suggested.

"No thanks, Tory." Miguel answered.

"Tory?" She questioned.

"I didn't say Tory. I said no thanks, Sam." He said.

"No, I heard you. Clear as day, you said no thanks, Tory." She insisted.

"Did I? Sorry, Sam. Slip of the tongue." He explained.

"Oh, o-okay. No worries, anyways, did you want to?" She asked.

"Yeah, sure." He answered.

Moving out of the queue, they walked over to the row of food shacks and stood for a moment, contemplating their options. Sam looked around and her expression changed as she noticed who was standing at a sugar doughnut stand; Robby and Tory.

"Hey uh… Do you wanna go to the hotdog stand?" She questioned.

Miguel scanned all the food stalls with his eyes, trying to decide what their best option would be. He looked back to Sam and followed the direction of her stare to the fresh sugar doughnut stand where he saw Tory and Robby taking a seat on one of the benches. He sucked in a deep breath as he felt a twinge of something he'd only felt once when he was drunk and had seen Sam arriving with Robby at their beach party.

"Earth to Miguel… Anyone there?" Sam said, waving her hand in front of his face.

"Oh. Right. Sam… Actually, you know what? I think I'm in the mood for some doughnuts." He decided.

"But Tory and Robby…" She pointed out.

"We're at a crowded funfair. What exactly are they going to do?" He retorted.

"Lots of things. Tory started a fight in the middle of a crowded school hallway, and again in my own home… I don't think being here is going to be any different." She stated.

Miguel looked Sam in the eyes, then glanced over his shoulder at his rival and her rival seated together, then he looked back at Sam again. He felt a strong need to stay where he could see their rivals. It was a strange feeling, but he wanted to make sure that Tory was having a decent time at least.

"You can't hide from her forever, Sam." He told her.

"Who said I was hiding? I'm not. I'm just trying to have a good evening together with you and I don't want to get into a fight that could ruin it." She informed him.

"You're not going to get into a fight with her." He said firmly.

"Alright, we can go to the stand… But if anything starts, we leave." She sighed.

"That's fine." He agreed.

Once they got to the doughnut shack, Sam sat herself down at the wooden bench furthest away from where Robby and Tory were sitting, and watched as Miguel went up to place their order. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see Robby glancing at her occasionally, making it even harder for her to want to stay there. She turned away and focused her eyes on Miguel, who was now standing waiting for the food to be done, and instantly regretted it. Her heart sank as she caught him staring straight at Tory and she couldn't help but wonder if that was the cause of his earlier distraction. She watched as his eyes flashed briefly to her and then back to Tory again.

Too lost in thoughts, she almost didn't notice when Miguel returned to the bench with a box full of sugary sweet treats. She gave him a half smile and watched as he sat down and took a bite of doughnut, but she didn't touch any herself. Her appetite had disappeared in the few minutes that they'd been at the stand and she could feel herself only one more incident away from reaching her breaking point.

"Miguel… Can I ask you something?" She spoke softly.

"Go on." He prompted.

"Well… I don't want to start an argument or anything, but is she the reason you wanted to come to this stall specifically? And was it her you were looking at earlier in the queue?" She questioned.

Before answering, Miguel glanced over at Tory and Robby, then back to Sam. He didn't quite know how to answer her question truthfully without hurting her. He couldn't deny that there was something about the other girl that pulled him to her, but it also meant that during this time he'd led Sam on, and that wasn't fair to her at all.

"I don't want to hurt you, Sam." He said, avoiding giving her an answer.

"If I'm being honest, it's a little too late to be saying that. I think what hurt the most was when you called me Tory." She informed him.

"Sam, I'm sorry." He whispered.

"Do you love her?" She questioned.

"Sam-" Miguel began to protest.

She shook her head frantically. "Do you love her?" She repeated.

Unable to physically speak the answer, Miguel nodded. He wasn't sure why he did, but he knew that it was unfair to string Sam along when the love he once had for her seemed to have faded.

Sam swallowed and sighed. It wasn't the answer she had wanted to hear, but it was the one that she had needed. Miguel still loved Tory and there was nothing she could do to change that. She didn't want to be with someone who didn't love her back and hearing his answer was all she'd needed to make the right choice.

"I'm sorry, Miguel… But I can't do this anymore." She admitted.

"What? Sam… Come on! I'm sure I can learn to love you again the way I used to-" He began to protest.

"No!" She interjected. "As long as she is around you will always love her and I can't spend my entire life being with you based on the sole hope that one day you just might decide to love me back." She told him.

"You're breaking up with me over this?" He questioned in disbelief.

"No, not because you've been fixated on her all night. I'm doing this because I don't deserve to feel the way I'm feeling right now." She corrected him.

"Of course not. I never intended to make you feel like this. I really am sorry, Sam. But I can't help it." He said.

"I know, but you shouldn't play games with my heart if you're into someone else." She told him.

"Right. So, what do you wanna do?" He asked.

"If it's okay with you, I think I'm gonna go." She decided, standing up. "Goodbye Miguel." She added.

Turning around, she forced herself to walk away. One step at a time until he was out of sight. She didn't stop there though, and just carried on walking. Past all the flashy lights of the rides. Past all the long queues. Past all the arcades, and past all the loved up couples. After a while of walking around, feeling numb, she found a vacant bench at the far end of the fair and sat down, staring only at the grass beneath her feet.

Miguel stayed seated at the food bench, now only picking at the doughnut in his hands. Without Sam around, the only thing he could do was stare at Tory. He wanted nothing more than to go over and talk to her, but he couldn't risk it with Robby sitting next to her, so he remained seated.

"Thank you for tonight. It has been fun." Tory commented.

"Oh, it's no bother." Robby responded.

As they finished up their food, Tory stood up and grabbed the litter from the bench. Looking up, she noticed that Miguel was sitting alone on another bench at the same stall. A moment ago when she'd looked, he'd been with Samantha, but now he was alone. She glanced down at Robby, who looked up at her and smiled.

"Excuse me for a second." She said, taking the food packaging with her to the bin.

Robby watched curiously as she reached the trash can and dumped the rubbish. Expecting her to come straight back, he was surprised when she approached the bench where Miguel was moping around by himself. He watched, even more closely as his rival shuffled over to allow her room to sit down. As he saw Tory reach out and place her hand on top of Miguel's he huffed, and when she shuffled closer to him, he clenched his fists. It took everything inside of him not to go over there and give his rival a jawbreaker. He forced himself to stay seated, and continued to keep a close eye on the two. The closer they got, the tighter he clenched his fists but watching as they leaned in and kissed, he slammed his hands down on the bench and rose to his feet absolutely seething mad.

He took one last look at them before storming off as far away as he could, kicking a crushed up can in the process and muttering a few swears under his breath. Once he was far enough away, he slowed his pace and continued walking with his arms folded across his chest. The music of the fair that was vibrating beneath his feet drowned out the sound of his rapid heartbeat, which he was sure would be audible for miles if it weren't so loud.

Finally he reached the quieter end of the fair. The area consisted of a few hook a duck and shoot the target games, a drink vending machine and a photo booth that barely anybody showed interest in, other than small children and gamer boys. For the first time ever, he was grateful for the quiet area because it allowed him to be able to think clearly. He stood still for a moment, contemplating whether or not to leave, when something caught his attention. It sounded like someone was crying. Not just any cry either, but a rather hysterical and heart wrenching cry. Following the direction that the sound was coming from, he turned the corner and froze when he saw who was responsible for the sound.

"Sam?!" He exclaimed in shock.

She didn't respond and he wasn't entirely sure that she'd heard him call her name. Seeing her this way made him wonder if she knew about Tory and Miguel. The one thing he was certain about was that it brought feelings to the surface that he'd tried to bury since coming out of juvie. With that in mind, he took a few steps forward so that he was standing in front of her, then he reached out and placed his hand on her shoulder. Sam jerked back with a gasp as she lifted her head and saw Robby standing in front of her.

"It's okay, I'm not here to fight." He assured her, raising his hands in the air.

"Tory?" She questioned.

"Oh, I'm not here with her anymore. She uh- She decided to go comfort Miguel." He explained. "Though by the looks of things I'd say you're the one in need of comfort." He added.

"I'm fine." She stated, her voice telling a different story.

"You don't look fine. Does this have anything to do with Miguel and Tory by any chance?" He asked.

"No… Maybe… Yes." She stammered.

Accepting her answer, he decided to give it a shot at reconciling with her. "May I?" He asked, pointing to the vacant seat next to her.

"I thought you hated me." She said.

"Sam, I never hated you. That night I saw you with Miguel, I was hurt." He told her, sitting down next to her on the bench. "I'd just come out of juvie and I don't know… I got the wrong idea. But I've had time to heal, and now that Tory ran off to kiss him, I have had space to think and… I miss you, Sam." He admitted.

"He kissed her already?" Sam questioned.

Robby nodded. He knew it wouldn't make her feel any better to hear a verbal confirmation, but it was something that she deserved to know. Before he'd had the chance to process it all, Sam fell against him and buried her head in his shoulder which muffled the sound of her cries. Already familiar with which comforting methods worked on her, he lifted his arm and wrapped it around her shoulders, pulling her fully into him.

"I'm sorry." She whispered in a hiccup.

"For what?" He questioned.

"Hurting you. Not giving you a chance after juvie." She answered.

"It's okay, I forgive you." He told her.

"He kept looking at her all night." She cried.

"Yeah, I noticed. That was kinda a bad move. I know that if you were still my girl and I was here with you, my eyes would be on no one else but you." He said sweetly.

"But he could have just been honest with me… I mean, all this time has he really just been stringing me along?" She questioned.

"Well, I can't really answer that because I'm not him… But I do know one thing." He admitted.

"Really?" She wondered. "What is it?" She asked.

"I'm all wet now. Look at this nice blue t-shirt… It looks like I've been drooling or something." He joked.

Not quite getting it, she lifted her head and looked at him wide eyed with worry. He smiled at her, then his words finally sank in and she laughed.

"Does it not hurt you too?" She asked.

He shrugged. "If I'm being honest with you, I wasn't all that into her. I know it sounds like a shitty thing to do, but she was more of a distraction for me." He explained.

"Then what was I to you?" She questioned.

"You were my second chance. My reason to turn my life around. You were my blessing in disguise. My gift. Never anything less." He confessed.

She closed her eyes, feeling the tiredness take over her after all the crying. Hearing those words come from Robby made her miss having him around and the way things used to be between them before the fight at school.

"Hey, Sam?" He questioned.

"Yeah?" She looked up at him.

"Do you… Maybe, wanna go somewhere?" He asked, lowering his hand to her back and rubbing circles on it.

"Sure. I don't think I want to stick around her for another second." She answered with a bitter sigh.

Robby stood up and offered out his hand which, after hesitating for a second, she took. Sam nodded towards the back route of the fair behind all the rides and stalls, not wanting to walk through the main attractions and risk seeing Tory and Miguel. Taking the lead, he led her around the back and towards the parking lot.

"Alright, here we are. Where did you park your car?" He questioned.

"Third row." She informed him.

Continuing to the third row, her white BMW soon came into view, but it didn't look the same as when she'd left it. Robby looked in horror as the word WHORE was sprayed across it in big bold letters and bright red paint.

"Sam, don't look." He told her.

"What do you mean?" She asked.

"I mean, do not look at the car." He clarified, wanting to protect her from having an even worse night.

"You saying that only makes me want to look." She said.

"Don't!" He warned.

But by the time the word left his lips, it was too late. She'd already seen the bright red letters and her smile had already faded. He looked around, desperate for an idea on how to get rid of it, or at least cover it up, but came up blank.

"First they did this to Mr Miyagi's car… Now mine! I have to drive that." She stammered, feeling her heart break.

"That's right, bitch!" A female voice spoke from behind.

Sam spun around to see Tory standing behind them, with a spray can in her hands, and Miguel standing behind her. Though her hurt soon turned into anger.

"Is it not enough that you broke my heart to be with her, now you're just going to stand by and let her do these things?! So much for wanting peace!" She fumed at Miguel.

"Get out of here! Both of you!" Robby warned, once again clenching his fists.

"Dude, don't threaten her!" Miguel yelled.

"You don't want her under threat? Well how about starting by taking her away and forcing her to leave Sam alone!" Robby yelled back.

"Robby, don't! Please, can we just go?" Sam asked desperately.

"Of course." He agreed, opening the driver's side door for her and then closing it and walking around to the other side. He opened the door, but turned back to Miguel and Tory before hopping in. "This has to stop." He warned, then slammed the door shut.

He watched as Sam started the car up and pulled out of the parking space, noticing her focus in the rear view mirror.

"Are you okay, Sam?" He asked, wanting to try and have a conversation.

"Not really." She sighed. "I mean, I'm driving a car around town with the word whore sprayed across it, and found out Miguel was stringing me along all this time… I can't really pretend to be okay when I'm not." She pointed out.

"We'll clean it off, you know." He attempted to console her.

"The words might wash off, but the humiliation won't. Not for a long time at least." She told him.

Unable to think of anything else helpful to say, he gave her a small sympathetic smile. He wanted to do something nice too, but was stumped for ideas.

"So, where'd you wanna go?" He questioned.

"I don't know. You choose." She pleaded.

"Hmm… Okay, how about the beach? I hear that the sea is very beautiful at night when there aren't many people there." He suggested.

"Anywhere that isn't here is okay with me." She stated, finally exiting the car park after waiting for three cars to exit.

Stumbling through the sandy beach, they found a nice spot to sit with a clear view of the ocean. The moon in the sky above was full and water reflected its light in the waves. Sam was the first to sit down, bringing her knees up to her chest to keep warm. Robby sat down next to her, but crossed his legs and for a moment, the two just stared out at the water in complete silence; the only sound being the waves crashing back and forth as the tide came in more and more each time.

"Robby, why did you join Cobra Kai?" Sam asked, her eyes still focused on the water.

"Honestly?" He questioned. She nodded. "I didn't want to be around your dad after what happened and I certainly didn't want to join my dad's dojo… But I didn't want to stop training either, which left me with only one other option." He explained.

"Oh… Well, that's a relief. I thought it was to spite me or something." She admitted.

"Nah, not you. Mainly it was to spite my dad." He corrected her. "And I'm sorry that I never gave you a chance to explain why you were with Miguel that night." He added.

"It's okay, honestly I would have been pretty confused and upset too if the roles were reversed." She said.

"You know, I've been wanting to have this conversation with you from the moment I got out of juvie… But with everything that happened, I never got the chance." He informed her.

"Really? Me too. I wanted to clear things up with you so badly and while you were in that place, I worried about you every single day. The night that you saw Miguel and I together… We weren't together in that sense, we were celebrating because we managed to stop the All Valley tournament from being canceled." She explained.

"Oh… Yeah, I guess anyone would celebrate after such a victory. I'm sorry for overreacting." He said as he processed what she was saying.

"I missed you a lot, Robby." She confessed.

"You did?" He questioned, surprised by her confession.

"More than anyone else. I missed training together, and the fun times we had too. I missed watching you bond with my father and help the other Miyagi Do students." She emphasized.

"That makes me feel better… To know that I wasn't the only one." He admitted.

"But the truth is… I never truly got over you." She stammered nervously.

"Sam…" He began.

She turned her head to the side to face him, but before she could speak he moved forward rather suddenly and pressed his lips against hers, using one hand to prop himself up and the other to hold the back of her head. After a few minutes he pulled away again.

"You look beautiful tonight." He whispered in her ear.

"Th- thank you." She stuttered, her heart beating hard against her chest.

"Would- Uh… Do you wanna… Maybe… try again?" He asked. "With us." He clarified.

"I want that very much." She answered.

Thrilled with her answer, he suddenly jumped to his feet and offered out his hand. She took it and got to her feet, giving him a questioning look in the process.

"Do you want to dance?" He asked.

"But there's no music…" She pointed out.

"Ah, now that's an easy fix." He stated, bringing out his phone and tapping away on it.

Sam stood confused for a second, wondering what exactly it was that Robby was up to. Her question was soon answered when an old nineties love song began to play and he tucked his phone back into his pocket before taking her hand and placing his other on her lower back, swaying back and forth. Neither were sure that what they were doing could be considered dancing, but it was something that didn't matter. Somehow, a night that had started out looking dim had been turned around into one that neither would forget; the night that they realized that they still loved each other, with the help of the moon and the sea on the beach enabling them to think clearly.
