"Effy! What the hell was that about?" Tony asked, coming into her room after hearing all the commotion.
She didn't speak. It wasn't that she didn't want to, it was that she felt like she couldn't. Just like two years ago, when she never said a word because she felt like nobody could hear her, or if they did, they just didn't listen.
Once again she felt alone.
"Really? This again, with the silence." He sighed. This would be a difficult conversation. If you could even call it that.
Even though she didn't invite him to, he took a seat on the bed that once belonged to him. He wasn't usually one to have patience but he had all the time in the world today since none of his social circle were available.
"You know I could spend all day in here if I have to. I want my sister back, not this empty broken shell of who she used to be." He explained.
Not saying a word, she simply just sat there listening to him. Her dark, haunted eyes focused on him.
"It would make it easier if you would just talk to me. Open up. At least it would help me to try to understand. I know you've only been like this since that boy was murdered." He spoke, more softly than he ever had before. He hoped that they would make some progress eventually and that she would at least say something to him.
Truth was, he was running out of things to say, but he would keep saying whatever came to his mind until he got through to her.
"I know you loved him. I know it hurts but it's not supposed to be easy Ef. You know I had to really fight for 'Chelle when I did those idiotic things that caused her to walk away." He continued speaking. He knew what he was saying now was stupid and not the same but he didn't exactly know what it felt like to lose someone in that way.
Not the same. She thought to herself. He lost someone through his stupidity but in the end he still got her back. This was different. Much different. She would never have the chance with Freddy again.
"It hurts, I know. But he's gone Effy. You need to start living. If not for yourself then for him." Tony finished, he had now completely run out of anything else to say.
Just as he was about to give in, she spoke for the first time since Cook had left.
"You're wrong you know. He's not gone." She informed him.
"What do you mean?" He asked, confused by her words.
"I saw him. I spoke to him. He's still here." She said, with a sad smile.
"No he's not. It's in your head. You need help." He replied, not meaning it in the way that said she was crazy.
"Oh because that worked out so well last time." She spoke sarcastically.
"You know what I mean." He sighed, and with that he got up and left the room.
Leaving her alone with her thoughts.
"Freddy..." She called out, hoping that he would appear again.
Much to her dismay he didn't. Maybe Tony and Cook were right, maybe she was crazy. Was she really losing her mind?
