"Let's go, Jules!"
"Just a minute!" She hollered back from the other side of the door.
Charlie raised a brow but said nothing. It was Halloween night and with that, all the other Ducks had plans for the evening. He and Julie decided to take advantage of that so they could have a date night. Maybe a walk down the old abandoned neighborhood on Sycamore Street.
He wasn't dressed up as anything. Julie told him she had an idea for a costume but refused to tell him what it was.
"Julieeeee."
"What?"
"I'm bored."
"So?"
"I'm going to die of boredom out here," he said, "you're going to feel really bad."
"Not really. At least I won't have to worry about you eating my fries anymore."
He snickered. "But I like yours so much better."
"Ugh," was all she said.
He leaned against the wall beside the door. "By the way, have you seen my Ducks jersey? I can't find it."
"I'm sure it's around somewhere."
"I've looked everywhere."
"Have you, though?"
"Yeah," he said. "I looked in my room, I asked Coach if I left it at his place. I even asked Mom and Orion but they said they haven't seen it."
"I'm sure it'll turn up eventually."
"yeah. Well, come on, Sweetheart, hurry-oh," Charlie trailed off when the door opened. Julie wore his jersey and one of hats, smiling sweetly.
"Hi."
"Hi," he said, eyes going up and down, scanning her. "That's your costume?"
"Mhm," she wrapped her arms around his waist.
"You're me?"
"I'm you," she confirmed. "You like?"
"Very much," Charlie murmured. "When'd you take the jersey?"
"I had Adam get it."
"So that's why he suddenly had to come over."
"Mhm."
He kissed her forehead. "You look better in it anyway."
"Are you trying to flatter me, Conway?" She grinned.
"I don't have to flatter my girlfriend," he smirked. "Besides, if you're me then I'm flattering myself but I deserve it so that's okay."
"You're humble too."
"I'm a man of many talents," he teased. "It's really fortunate I even looked at your way."
Her jaw dropping slightly, she whacked Charlie as he burst out laughing.
"You should have seen your face!"
"You're unbelievable," she scowled.
"Unbelievably handsome."
"I won't go that far," she retorted.
He was still shaking with laughter as he pulled her against him. "Come on, Kitty Cat, I was just joking."
"Stop calling me that," she groaned. Kitty Cat and Kitten were two of the nicknames that annoyed her the most. As such, they were two of the nicknames he used the most. "I hate you."
Charlie feigned a gasp. "What?"
She fought not to smile. "It's true," she said plainly.
He pretended to think for a moment. "I know just what to do."
Julie was about to ask what he meant by that when she was suddenly overcome with giggles. Charlie pressed kiss after kiss to her face.
"Charlie!" She couldn't contain her laughter. "Stop being weird!"
He pulled back, putting a hand on his chest as if he were wounded by her words. "Weird? You hurt me, Gaffney."
"Good!"
Julie snuggled in his side, his arm going around her shoulder as they started to walk down the hallway and out of Eden Hall.
"Come on, Charlie," he spoke with emphasis. "Let's see if you can score any candy. I hear the lady at the end of the block gives out the full size bars." Julie mhmed. "And when she asks you what you're supposed to be, tell her your devilishly handsome boyfriend."
He nudged her.
"And then I'll tell her that I couldn't get his jersey so I settled for you instead," she shrugged, smiling innocently.
"That's just cruel, Gaffney."
"Cruel, me?" She put a hand to her chest. "That hurts, Conway."
"Good," he whispered, bending down to give her a kiss.
