"Cook!" She called again, despite knowing it was useless because she was too far away for him to hear her.

She thought about calling his phone, but the idea was shut down when she realised that she'd lost her phone while running. Leaning back against the filthy wall, she slid down until she was sat on the narrow path and rested her head between her chest and her knees.

It was unfair to Cook. He wanted to help her. She wished that he could help her. But he couldn't. No one could. The one person that she needed the most was the one who she would never be able to see again.

"Effy..." She heard a familiar voice call out.

She lifted her head, startled like a rabbit at the snapping of twigs in a forest, and relaxed when she saw Freddy standing above her. She dried her eyes as he knelt down in front of her, reaching out and stroking her cheek. The feel of his ice cold hand against her skin made her shiver. Though it didn't stop her from wishing that it was real.

"Freddy..." She whispered.

"You ran away from me, Effy. Why did you run?" He questioned in a tone that she hated.

"I- I didn't. I wasn't running from you, I was running from Cook." She stammered.

"Effy..." Freddy began, but she was quick to interrupt.

"I need you, Freddy." She admitted.

"I know you do. Unfortunately I cannot give you what you need. But Cook can, if you'll only let him." He said, his tone now melancholic.

She took in every word of what he was saying, but she still couldn't allow herself to accept it. She could never love Cook the way she loved Freddy. Cook would never understand her the way Freddy did. Cook can never be Freddy, and that right there, was her problem.

"Why did you have to go and confront doctor Foster, Freddy? If you hadn't have gone to see him then you would still be here..." She cried.

"Because I had to. I couldn't let him get away with what he was doing." He defended.

Effy didn't respond. Instead she bit her lip, not wanting to say something that would cause Freddy to disappear. As always, he had been doing the right thing only to be punished for it. Though this time he'd paid for it with his life. She couldn't let him suffer more by trapping him on earth. It would be too selfish. He could never find peace if she didn't, and they would forever be stuck in a time of great pain. She had to let go, there was no doubt about that. Her problem was that she didn't know how.

"You need to get up, and get out of here, Effy. You are not safe." Freddy told her, then disappeared before she could question it.

The neutral expression on her face turned into a frown. She was about to speak up when she heard footsteps close by. Turning around, she looked in every direction until something silver glinted in the corner of her eye. She turned her head to see a male figure slowly making his way towards her; his face invisible amid all the black clothing, but the knife in his hand all the more visible because of it. Her eyes widened with fear and she swallowed hard to suppress any noises trying to escape her, and then she turned and ran away. Just like before, she kept running. Not stopping until she was back in an area she recognised, with people roaming the streets.

The loud honk of a car horn brought her back to reality, but it was too late to move by the time she realised that she was standing in the middle of the road, and the car was already flying towards her despite the driver slamming on the brakes. Before she could react, she heard a familiar voice yell her name and someone's arms around her, pulling her out of the road. Everything happened too fast for her mind to keep up, and the sudden movement made her dizzy. Her vision became blurred and all she could make out of was a man with short chestnut brown hair, trying - and failing, to get her to focus. His image was instantly replaced by darkness.
