As he came to, Link struggled to remember the events that had led up to his black out. His eyes flew open and he bolted up into a sitting position, frantically looking around the room for any signs of what may have happened and trying to locate the Princess.

Once he realised that she was not inside the room with him, he jumped to his feet, reaching for his sword... but it wasn't there. Neither was his shield, or any other form of protection that he had been carrying with him. He had to exit the room, he knew that, but he also knew that it would be stupid of him to leave the room without some form of protection. Scanning the area for anything that could be of use to him, he took note of a barrel lid that was discarded on the floor. Combined with some leather bounds, it could make a temporary shield.

Now that he had something to use for protection, all he needed was something that would be useful for fighting. After all, he did not know what might be laid in waiting behind the door of Zelda's bed chambers. Heading over to the closet, in which he knew the Princess kept all of her treasures, he fumbled around in there until he found exactly what he was looking for - his old wooden sword that he'd once used when he was seven years old.

Before the days of fighting much greater evils, Link was just a little boy, wandering around the kingdom in between the towns and villages, doing little jobs to help people out and earn rewards. Though the greatest job that he had ever been appointed, was protecting and fighting alongside Princess Zelda. Up until then, he had used a wooden sword for tasks such as cutting grass and helping to keep goats under control. He knew that after all these years it would be unsteady and only have a little life left in it, but until he found out where the master sword had been taken, it would have to do.

With his guard up, and the shield along with the sword at the ready, he cautiously exited the room. First looking left, then right, and seeing no potential threat lurking in the passage way, he ventured forward towards the stairs. Instantly, he noticed that there was a lack of guards and royals roaming. A feeling of uncertainty washing over him, he quickened his pace as he made his way to the throne room. He would feel much more reassured once he spoke with the king of Hyrule.

His hope soon took a downward spiral as soon as he entered the familiar room though. The disappointment was colossal and the feeling that their peace had been disturbed was stronger than ever. Sat before him upon the throne was not the King, not even the Princess. Sat before him upon the throne was absolutely nobody. It appeared that the castle was empty and no one, except for himself was present.

That is where he was wrong.

Stood for a moment in a silence that was due to his utter disbelief of everything that had happened, he spun around defensively when he heard the shuffle of a movement on the ground and instantly, his mouth fell open wide. Closing in on him, were enemies that he had thought that he would never encounter again. Enemies that he had thought he'd taken care of. The Shadow Beasts. Four of them to be exact.

All memories of when Zant took over as the Twilight Realm came flooding back to him and just the feel of the power that was radiating off of them was enough to tell him that his wooden sword did not stand a chance at protecting him. Doing the only sensible thing he could think of at that specific moment in time, he turned on his heel and made a run for the door - well what was left of it anyway. He managed to reach the steps to the castle but made the crucial mistake of looking behind to check if the Beasts were on his tail. The second he looked back in front of him, it was too late to stop running, and before he knew it he was flying through the air and then hit the ground with harsh thud, smacking his head on a piece of rubble.

Laid on the ground, all he could do in his dizzy state was watch as the Shadow Beasts closed in on him... then everything went black.

"Link..." A soft female voice whispered into his darkness.

"Link, wake up. It is time to begin your next quest." The voice spoke again.

'Princess?' He thought groggily to himself as his eyes fluttered open. Though he could not see clearly just yet, he made out two figures hovering above him.

"Not anymore. Thanks to you, I am now a Queen." The female voice responded.

Seconds later, his vision cleared up and those hovering above him came into focus. The male figure was the King of Hyrule, someone that Link was relieved to see after what had happened, and the female figure, who had been coaxing him into awake, was none other than the Queen of the Twilight Realm herself - Midna. He was surprised to see her at all since the end of the fight with Ganon and helping her take back her kingdom, he hadn't heard a peep from her... Until now.

Pushing himself up into a sitting position, he stared blankly at the two. The King's presence whenever there was a threat to the kingdom was always expected, but to have Midna there too meant that something must be seriously wrong and not just within the kingdom of light either, but also the Twilight Realm. Instantly Link knew that the sleep he had just been in, was going to be his last for a long time.

"Midna?... Uh, I mean... your majesty?" He questioned, meaning to ask why she was present.

Luckily for him, he did not have to put the question that was in his head, into words. Having travelled with Midna for so long when Zant had last taken control of the Twilight Realm, she had managed to somehow pick up on a lot of his inner thoughts, especially when he didn't verbalise.

"Zant..." Midna began, and took a moment to breath, but before she could continue, the King of Hyrule spoke.

"He has kidnapped my daugther!" The King's deep voice spoke the words in a tone of anger, one that had never been used in front of the knights before.

Link looked as though he suddenly woke up in shock and stared at them confused. It hadn't been all that long ago that he had been stood in Zelda's sleeping chambers, and now he was being told that the former King of the Twilight Realm had kidnapped her?

"Link... after I left you and princess Zelda and returned to my realm things have gotten far too quiet. My people knew about what we did to stop Zant and take back my throne, he told them..." Midna began to explain.

Link gasped. After everything that they had been through, he had assumed that everything was perfectly in order. Only now was he realising that something had been seriously wrong for a long time, but they just hadn't noticed before.

"He ran away before we could catch and imprison him for what he did to me! And my people. But then not so long ago, I was sitting in my throne talking with my servant about some Twilight business when he showed up, killed my guards and servant and before I could do something about it, I saw Zelda asleep in some kind of crystal. I couldnt belive it... but before I could use my ancestors magic on him as we did on him before, he banished me from my own realm! And I found myself back at the mirror chamber where we said farewell to one another.. So we have to get back to my kingdom and save my people from that creep .. and the Princess too." Midna finished explaining, a pained expression on her face.

As soon as the words fell upon his ears, a deep fury awoke within him and a fire that burned right to his core had been ignited. Jumping up from the bed, he knew that there was a long road ahead of him... A fight that would put an end to Zant's cruelty... or if all efforts failed, an end to himself and all of Hyrule and the Twilight Realm.
