Presenting the Dolittle AU no one asked for.

"Normal Dialogue"

"Animal/Beast Talking"

'Thoughts'

People say the best thing about being a kid was how easy it was to pretend.

One can hold a conversation with a dog or a baseball or even a banana.

Well what if you could have a conversation? Not with a banana or baseball of course. That would be silly. Imagine if you could hold a conversation... with a dog!

That is the case for Luz Dolittle Noceda who possessed an extraordinary gift of being able to talk to animals.

Of course people thought she was only pretending to be able to do so. They found it amusing when she was younger but as she grew older and she continued to talk with animals they started seeing her as weird and crazy

But she didn't care what they think. Sure she didn't have friends her age because of this since she would rather be friends with the birds and three bears in the forest behind their house. They were always nicer anyway.

At least her mom was understanding...at first.

Her mother was one of the only few people who believed her gift of talking to animals but unfortunately even she had limits when it comes to her antics with them.

It all started after a certain book report gone wrong.

But in her defense it wasn't her fault the snakes decided to be jerks and jump her classmates. She even promised the little guys chicken if they behaved!

Unfortunately in the end it was decided she would be sent to camp in order to get her to "Think inside the box"

Her mom tried to cheer her up but it was no use as from there she already thought her life was over, thinking that the camp she would be sent to would drain her of all her individuality until she's nothing but an empty shell whose sole purpose is to do taxes and other boring things. She was even afraid they would make her suppress her ability to talk to animals just like what happened to her Grandpa when they were a kid.

That is until something unexpected happened!

While waiting for the bus to horror camp, an owl had stolen her Azura books!

What happens next is gonna sound crazy but when she chased after the owl into an abandoned house the next thing she know she's in a magical place called the Demon Realm!

At first she was obviously scared and she even thought she was in hell!

Luckily she met a kind but cranky witch named, Eda Clawthorne, who she asked to take her in as an apprentice though only after she found out magic was real and they broke into a prison but that's a story for another time.

Things got better from there (of course there were few bumps along the way). Not only did she learn how to do magic thanks to glyphs, she also made new friends! She never had friends before...at least not ones that aren't animals or beasts and speaking of beasts, turns out the ones in the boiling Isles aren't so different from ones on Earth at least when it comes to their personalities.

She even befriended some of them. It was really funny how surprised some of them were when they realized she could talk and understand them...

But she was getting off topic for today was a special day.

Today Hexside finally opens its doors to her!

Today was the day she finally goes to magic school!

Now if only her nerves wasn't starting to get the best of her...

"Oh god this is so nerve-racking! What if I embarrass myself!? It will be like high school all over again!" She fidgeted with her new hexside uniform.

"Relax, kid. If anyone tries to bully you just blow my whistle and I will come and eat them" Dave, a red hand dragon that she had met and befriended during her trip to the knee, said to her in an assuring tone. He had been kind enough to fly her over to Hexside since Eda was too lazy to do so.

"Dave. You know Luz can't do that and even if she did she would get in huge trouble!" Xerxes, a falcon whom she had raised from an egg back in the human realm, scolded Dave from his spot on her right shoulder.

"Well excuse me! I'm just trying to calm her nerves! What have you been doing? Screeching in Luz's ear all day?" Dave snapped back.

"At least I don't spend the entire day sleeping you overgrown lizard!" Xerxes screeched

"Why you little!"

"Guys! There's no need to fight. This is supposed to be a relatively peaceful day" Luz said as she tried to calm the two down but alas they ignored her and proceeded to argue for the rest of the trip instead.

It was a good thing she didn't bring the rest of her beast buddies with her for this. God knows the amount of chaos they could cause

Eventually after ten whole minutes of listening to her two beast friends argue, they finally reached Hexside.

'Oh thank god we're finally here!' Luz thought as she wasted no time getting off Dave.

"Have a nice day Luz. If you need me I'll be at the nearby lake" Dave said.

"Are you finally going to take a bath there?" Xerxes said smugly.

Thankfully Dave only gave a small growl before flying off, making Luz let out a weary sigh before giving Xerxes a disapproving look.

"What?" Xerxes said innocently

"Did you really have to agitate him? It's like you and Dave hate each other with how much you argue" Luz said

"We don't hate it each other we just don't like each other as a beast. You wouldn't understand its an animal thing" Xerxes explained while doing the equivalent of a shrug.

"You know what I'm not even gonna ask" Luz sighed. Even though she could hold a conversation with animals there are just some aspects of them that she would probably never understand

"Heads up. Here comes your crush"

"W-What?" Luz was taken back by Xerxes words before noticing that Amity was walking towards her with an Abomination walking behind her, mimicking her movements as she carried two books under her left arm and it did the same.

"Hey, Luz. Congrats on getting in. And not being in the baby class." Amity said with a giggle.

Luz couldn't help but laughed nervously at that. She had actually come so close to not passing since while she does have two glyphs which is her Light and Plant Glyph she doesn't exactly have proper practice with them. It was only her ability to talk to animals, which Bump had mistaken for what was apparently advanced Beast Keeping magic that saved her from failing.

"Oh boy you have no idea how close I was to failing" Luz gave a sheepish smile before she held her hand up for a high five. "Anyways. Up top!"

Amity proceeded to give a high five but unfortunately the abomination behind her also copied the movement which just so happened to hit Luz in the face

"Gross" Xerxes said as he jumped off her shoulder.

"Blergh" Luz groaned, wiping off the abomination mud from her face. She knew what track she was definitely not taking.

"Sorry about that." Amity quickly apologized

"It's fine, I've had worse with my animal buddies. We're still good for that azura club right?"

"Of course. I'll just see you after class. Bye Luz" Amity said, waving goodbye to her.

"See ya" Luz waved back with a smile. For some reason she couldn't help but let out a happy sigh as she watched Amity leave.

After Amity was gone, Luz noticed Xerxes was giving her a smug look.

"What?"

"So when is the wedding?"

"Get outta town!"

After chasing Xerxes around for a bit, telling King who had snuck in not to cause trouble, meeting with Willow and Gus, she proceeded to Principal Bump's office in order to get her class schedule. Though Xerxes had chosen to stay outside for some reason.

"Hiya, Princy-B! Can I call you that? No? I'm just here to pick up my school schedule before the bell." Luz said as she walked up to Bump's desk, and took a seat

"First, do not ever call me that. Second, I'd like to inform you that the Emperor's Coven will be sending an inspector to evaluate the school, so you'll need to pick a coven track first before you can receive. your schedule." Principal Bump told Luz before picking up a rule book on his desk. "And before you go think you can choose multiple tracks, the rulebook clearly states that each student must "hocus focus." One track per student, just like the coven system."

'Huh. It's kinda like college then' Luz thought as she looked up at the nine coven mini banners above Bump's desk.

She focused more on the banner for Beast Keeping and Healing track. Luz knew each track had their own unique aspect about it but she already knew she wanted to take beast keeping and healing since she wanted to become a veterinarian like her mom and help animals.

But she couldn't afford to get in trouble on her first day as a student and end up not taking a track. So, Luz picked the one that had interested her the most.

"I choose...the Beast Keeping Track." Luz said, pointing at the orange banner with a hatching egg as the symbol.

"Beast keeping eh? I wouldn't I'm surprised. After all from what I've seen beasts are naturally drawn to you just as you are drawn to them not to mention your able to understand them." Bump said to her, looking at the banner.

"Well, it was pretty much a no brainer. I've always loved animals and beasts." Luz said.

'And maybe see if I can get some answers to why I'm able to understand them.' Luz thought as she remembered the stories her mom would tell her about other previous members of her family who also possessed her ability to talk to animals yet no one really knew why they were able to do so. 'Eda had her theories some of which were logical and some just made no sense

"Very well, beast keeping track it is." Bump said as he drew a spell circle, causing Luz's blank Hexside uniform to transform into one matching the Beast Keeping Track.

A grey tunic and a small darker grey cowl over it with brown sleeves and leggings.

"Now Luz Noceda. I once again welcome you to Hexside"

Luz couldn't help but smile.

Her first day of magic school finally begins.

Hopefully nothing goes wrong.

A/N: Here you go. A story prompt of the AU I originally wanted to do. Luz Dolittle.

I might continue it depending on where my brain takes me again. But since this is what I originally wanted to do...

Well anyways let me know what you think. See you next time on whatever chapter I post on whatever story
