Waking up was not as disorienting as you'd have expected it to be after spending ten years in a coma, her surroundings on the other hand, now that was as confusing as it can get. Opening her eyes, she felt like she was waking up from a nap, when she started propping herself up on her arms and looking around, she found herself in a strange -hospital like- room with the curtains opened and beams of sunlight streaming through the windows, which surprised her since the last thing she remembered was not that, not by a long shot.
What Victoria did remember, was that she had been in the middle of a battle against violent 'Death Eaters', and a curse was hurtling towards her younger brother, but instead of allowing it to make contact, she intercepted it, getting hit instead, and the last thing she remembered was the sound of her brother shouting her name as everything went black. Now she found herself in a hospital room with four other beds, two of which were occupied.
She was interrupted from her musing by the sound of a slide door opening and footsteps coming into the room, she immediately turned her head towards the person entering, who froze as soon as he saw her alert eyes staring at him, caution clear in her silver irises.
The healer took a moment to compose himself before speaking. "Lady Prewett. What a pleasure it is to see you awake."
"Awake? What do you mean by that Mr...?"
"Ah excuse my impoliteness, I am Healer Alexander Goldstein, I am the Head Mind Healer her at St. Mungo's. You are in the Janus Thickey ward as you've been asleep for a while now, Lady Prewett." The healer, Goldstein, explained slowly, coming to stand in front of her bed.
Victoria tilted her head slightly to the side in confusion. "For how long?"
"Um, well to be frank." Healer Goldstein said, stuttering on his response, but at the impatient look he was given, he just blurted out the answer. "Around ten year."
"Is that so?" Victoria's voice had taken on a cold drawl, as she was using strong Occlumency to hide her utter shock at the news. Ten years. For ten years, she'd been asleep, unaware of what was going on in the world. Her boys were thirteen now, and her Henry was eleven.
"What is the date then?"
"July eighteenth, nineteen ninety-one." That had her thinking for a bit.
"What happened these past ten years?" She asked quietly, and after a few seconds of thinking, the healer told her about all the major events that had happened. He hesitantly told her about her brother's death and the subsequent destruction of You-know-who, he told her about the imprisonment of Sirius Black and most of his family, for different reasons but the bases was the same, they were all Death Eaters. He told her about how her nephew was heralded as hero for doing something at one years old, and how her family's story became a legend told to kids as a bedtime story. She listened to all of it with a blank expression, worrying the healer, but she was actually taking everything in. She felt the complete grief rocking her world and causing her heart to ache, but she didn't want to show her feelings to the mind healer, as she feared it might delay her leaving this place. She nodded her head to the healer when he finished his retelling, and for the first time he saw the pain she was feeling in her eyes, even though she had tried very hard to hide it.
"I'm truly very sorry for your loss Lady Prewett."
"Thank you Healer Goldstein. Is there a chance I can leave here soon?"
"Ah, well. We'll need to give you a mental and physical health test before that, as being in a coma for such a long time can be very damaging to your body. But as soon as that is done and we are sure you are completely healthy, you'll be able to leave with your closest living relatives, who would be Mister and Missus Weasley."
Victoria nodded at that and let the Healer leave to prepare for the tests and to contact her family. As she looked around the ward, trying to distract her mind from the devastating information she had just gotten, she focused on the people who were in the beds and immediately recognized her best friend and his wife, even if they had grey hair and were very frail and weak.
At the sight, Victoria felt anger and sadness at the sight. She got up out of her bed, gave her legs a moment to adjust to being used after a long time and walked towards one of her closest friends. She put both hands gently on his face and tilted his face towards hers, forcing the two to look each other in the eyes.
"Hey Frankie, I think it's time you got back home." She said softly before slowly diving into his mind using Legilimency.
If Lady Victoria Dorea Potter-Prewett was one thing, it was determined, and when she had a plan, she made sure to execute it. And right now, Victoria had one thing in mind, to bring her family back together, and she'd do anything to make it happen.
On the other side of England, a set of twins suddenly felt a jolt in their magical core, a bond that they hadn't felt in a long time had filled with magic and emotions, and something inside them suddenly snapped into place. They knew exactly what this all meant. Sharing eye contact, the two felt tears streaming down their faces at their dream finally coming true, they'd have their mum back.
They didn't go and tell their aunt, as they wanted to savor the moment between the two of them just a bit longer, and they also knew their aunt wouldn't take it very well, as it would mean her access to the Prewett Family Vaults would be rescinded as soon as their mother found out what Molly had been up to while she was indisposed.
They shared a hug, comforting each other, and then separated.
"This is our chance Freddy, to leave this hell whole behind for good. I highly doubt she'd allow us to stay if she found out what Molly has been doing to us." George told his brother quietly, trying to comfort him. Even though Fred was the older of the two, George had always been the more protective one.
"Yeah..." Fred said with a sigh, leaning his head against his brother's shoulder as the two sat in the floor, leaning against their bunk bed.
"What's on your mind Freddy?"
"I just...I'm scared she'll be like Molly. That she won't...like who we are."
"From what I remember of Mum, she was nothing like Molly. And she married Dad even though he was a prankster, so I doubt us being that will affect her much." George said, smiling softly at his brother, trying to be optimistic for the both of them, even though he had the same doubts as his brother.
Fred nodded to his brother's words and then the two dissolved into a comfortable silence as they thought of a plan.
"I have an idea." Fred said suddenly a few minutes later, snapping George out of his trance. He looked at his brother and raised his eyebrow in a way that prompted his twin to continue his train of thought.
"Well..."
Fred's plan had been very simple. They would tell their aunt that they were heading off to the Lovegoods' house, as they did often during the summer. They would then use their neighbor's fireplace to Floo to the hospital to see their mother.
So that's what they did, as soon as they'd arrived at the Lovegoods they explained the situation to Xenophilius Lovegood, their kind-hearted but slightly weird neighbor, and he allowed them to use the floo to go to the hospital.
Immediately after they arrived, they approached the receptionist's desk.
"Uh, hi. We're here to see Victoria Prewett." George said to the woman that was sitting at the desk, chewing bubblegum and looking at them in boredom.
"Relation?"
"Uh. We're her sons." Fred replied with as much courage as he could muster.
"Janus Thickey ward, fourth floor." She said blankly, going back to her magazine after.
The two shared a look before they headed over to the stairs and started climbing.
Four floors later and they had finally reached their mother's hospital room. Their anxiety was getting the best of them and they were hesitating to open the door. They shared a look before George steeled himself and pushed the door open.
As soon as they stepped inside, they noticed three familiar people sitting in a circle on one of the beds in the ward, heads huddled together as they discussed something.
As soon as the sound of the door opening reached the three, their heads snapped towards the door and the raven-haired woman's eyes widened when she saw who was on the other side.
"Freddy? Georgie?"
"Mum!" The two ran over to hug their Mum when they saw her open her arms and that tears were running down her face, knowing that she was probably too weak to rush to them herself.
The three hugged tightly with tears flowing down all three's faces, reunited at last after years of being apart. The other two in the room looked at them with fondness and soft, but sad, smiles, imagining their own reunion with their beloved son.
When the three parted, Victoria held each of her sons' faces in her hands and stared at them with a bright smile, just taking them in and marveling on how much they'd grown up.
"Look at you two. You look just like your Dad. I'm so proud." Victoria said happily, smiling at the two as tears streamed down her face. Her smile was probably the most beautiful thing the twins had ever seen, and her words made the two sob as they hugged her again tightly, finally able to be in her arms after ten years.
After their reunion, the three sat beside each other, and the boys immediately noticed the familiar figure that sat beside their mother.
"Uncle Frank?!" The two said in unison, getting a smile from their Godfather in return.
"Hey boys." He greeted brightly, his wife echoing his words just as happily. The twins immediately went to hug their Godfather and his wife, Frank and Alice Longbottom, happy to see them back to sanity and aware of everything, unlike the last time they came to see them.
"So," Their mother says, attracting their undivided attention. "What are you two doing here?"
Hello everyone!
As promised, here is the rewrite to 'A Potter's Takeover' but I found myself changing major things in the plot, so it's completely different from the original. Hope everyone enjoys the first chapter! I also decided to leave the previous story as it is and upload the rewritten version as a new story. (cover art isn't mine, credit to whoever created it.)
Ps. If someone catches the reference from the title, I love you 3
Signing off,
K
