Prompt: "I'm serious, I want you."

Kaito had been surprised when, one night, on the rooftop of the heist building, Shinichi asked Kaito out. Kaito had grinned and said, "Oh? You, an alpha, want to date me, another alpha? That's not very typical, is it?"

Shinichi sighed. "Stop pretending, Kid," he said. "I've been close to you enough times to know that you're an omega. Besides," he added on, "even if you were an alpha, I'd want you anyway."

Kaito felt his face flush slightly, and he put on his poker face. "I'm not an omega."

"You are," Shinichi said. "And if you want me as your boyfriend, your alpha, then answer my question."

Kaito could have said no. Maybe it would have been easier if he said no. But he was smitten with Shinichi, too in love to say anything but "Yes."

Shinichi smiled, and Kaito felt warmth spreading through his entire body. "I like that answer."

"I do too," Kaito whispered.

And that was how their relationship started. Shinichi soon met Kuroba Kaito, and the two of them often met up, Shinichi going to Ekoda or Kaito to Beika. Kaito loved his dates with Shinichi. He loved his presence in Shinichi's life. He loved getting to snuggle up to Shinichi shortly before bed, and having the alpha wrap his arms around him as he drifted off to sleep. It felt good.

But Kaito wondered, why did Shinichi choose him? It wasn't like there weren't any other options around. Especially since one of said options was Mouri Ran, the girl Shinichi had liked, maybe even loved, for years before the Conan situation made him lose his romantic feelings for her. What if Shinichi was lying? What if he actually still…

Kaito shook the thoughts away, leaning back in his own bed, empty except for himself. He wished Shinichi could be there.

Kaito knew he shouldn't be thinking that, but he had a fear that Shinichi didn't really like him, and instead, liked Mouri Ran.

Ran came over one day, when Kaito was cuddling Shinichi on the couch while the detective focused on his Sherlock Holmes book. Kaito looked up from his boyfriend's shoulder to look at Ran, who had let herself in with the house keys. She blinked in surprise when she saw Kaito, and then smiled once she got over her initial shock. "Hey, Kuroba-kun."

Kaito coughed awkwardly. "Hey, Mouri-san."

"Shinichi didn't tell me you were going to be here today," Ran continued, shooting Shinichi a glare. Shinichi glared back.

"I didn't know you were going to come over," Shinichi replied.

Kaito watched them banter, and felt a pit of dread open in his stomach. They got along so well, and they had years of being friends that Shinichi and Kaito didn't have. Kaito wouldn't blame Shinichi if it turned out that he was only using Kaito as practice before he asked out Ran. He just hoped it wasn't true.

"Anyway!" Ran's voice cut through Kaito's internal monologue. "I'm making dinner, so feel free to continue what you're doing!" Her voice was cheerful as she headed toward the kitchen.

Shinichi sighed and once again wrapped his arm around Kaito, who got closer, breathing in his alpha scent and closing his eyes. Please, if you like Ran that way, just tell me so… he thought. Maybe it'll be better that way…

It wasn't hard for Shinichi to notice that something was wrong with Kaito.

Recently, the omega had seemed upset by something, especially when Ran was around. Shinichi didn't get it at first, so he spoke with Ran, wanting to find out if the two had fought, but turned up with nothing. He tried to speak with Kaito about it, but the magician was exceptionally good at his poker faces, so Shinichi had been about to give up.

Then, during a conversation with Ran and Sonoko at Poirot, he finally found out.

"Soooo," Sonoko started eagerly, leaning across the table to get closer to Shinichi, a smirk on her face. "I heard there's a little trouble in paradise?"

Shinichi frowned. "You mean Kaito?"

Sonoko huffed. "Of course I do! I heard that he's been seeming off lately."

Shinichi shot a glance at Ran, who raised her hands in surrender. "I'm sorry, Shinichi! It just slipped out…"

Shinichi sighed. "Alright…" He turned to Sonoko. "Yes, but it's none of your business."

"But what if I told you that I knew what was wrong with your bae?" Sonoko asked.

Shinichi glared at her for a short while, but the omega refused to break her stare, the smirk still resting on her face. Finally, Shinichi sighed again. "Alright, spit it out, Sonoko."

Sonoko finally sat back in her seat, clapping her hands together. "See! I knew you would make the right choice!"

Shinichi gave her a flat look, waiting for her to finally elaborate. She sighed.

"Alright. What I think is happening is that your omega is jealous."

Shinichi blinked a few times. "Jealous?"

Sonoko nodded. "Yup. Of our beautiful Ran here!" As Ran's eyes widened, Sonoko continued. "You see, I've been in the same sort of situation before. There was this omega that Makoto-san was hanging out with, and I thought that maybe he liked her instead of me. Though unlike Kuroba-kun, I knew that Makoto would choose me in the end." She stared Shinichi in the eyes. "Kuroba-kun probably thinks that you'll choose Ran instead of him, especially since the two of you have known each other for years."

"But Shinichi and I aren't like that!" Ran protested. "And besides, Sera-chan and I…"

Sonoko nodded. "You're right about that, but does Kuroba-kun know it?"

Shinichi didn't know what was going on between Ran and Masumi, but this wasn't the time to talk about it. He quickly got up from his seat.

"Shinichi, where are you going?" Ran asked, looking up at him, surprise clear on her face.

"Ekoda," Shinichi replied. "I have to talk to Kaito." He quickly turned and raced out of Poirot.

Kaito had planned on spending the day alone at home, catching up on some of his favorite shows. Usually he'd spend days like these, when Shinichi was hanging out with his own friends, with Aoko, but she was out shopping with Keiko and Akako, and Kaito didn't feel like interrupting their girls' day out. So he stayed at home, watching TV, until the doorbell rang. Frowning with confusion, Kaito paused the show and headed downstairs to his front door.

He froze when he opened it and saw who was there.

Shinichi smiled raggedly at him. "Hey, Kaito."

"Hey, Shinichi," Kaito choked out. Shinichi's alpha scent was spreading towards him, comforting him, and Kaito wasn't sure how to process that, not right now, not yet.

"Can we talk for a moment?" Shinichi asked, and Kaito quickly nodded and stepped back, allowing Shinichi to slide inside and close the door behind him.

"What is it?" Kaito asked. "Weren't you hanging out with…" He swallowed. Mouri-san.

"Ran and Sonoko, yeah," Shinichi confirmed, and Kaito quickly reminded himself that it wasn't just Ran, it was her and Sonoko. "And they made me aware of something."

Kaito's eyes widened, horror building inside him. "Made you aware of… what?"

"That you think I'm in love with Ran."

Kaito almost collapsed. He stared at Shinichi, eyes wide, not knowing what to say.

"I'm not," Shinichi said. "I'm not in love with Ran, and I haven't been for a long time, but I am in love with someone, and that someone is you." He reached toward Kaito's hands and took them in his own, squeezing them lightly as he stared into Kaito's eyes. "You're not just practice, Kaito. I'm serious, I want you."

"Oh," Kaito whispered, voice feeling choked.

Shinichi leaned forward and caught Kaito's lips with his own. Kaito kissed back, letting the alpha wrap his arms around him, desperate to keep on going, keep kissing him. It felt great and Kaito never wanted it to end.

All too soon, Shinichi pulled back, but he still smiled at Kaito. "We're going to have to work on communication, huh?"

Kaito smiled lightly. "Yeah, probably."

Shinichi laughed. "Probably?"

"Definitely."
