Harmony.

A lone Riolu looked over from a ragged cliff adorned by rolling rocks that would pierce into the hearts of those who looked upon the sights of what his home was. Inside of a large mouth that opened into the ranges of where Wingull flew in the distance and the Krabby and Kingler released their bubbles as their songs of the sunset made up the sounds of his domain, two straw beds adorning the interior with a chest of their items from their rescues and an item bag filled with various money, useful items for dungeons or simply the opportunity for himself and his best friend - Flurr the Eevee - to head on into Treasure Town, the hustle and bustle of ins and outs from travelers ranging far and wide from across the world.

Standing on the tips of Sharpedo Bluff, he stood there in temporal silence, sort of a ticking sensation overwhelming the atmosphere as he lay in utter silence.

Shivers from aura as it whirled in his paws, a thought - and a fear - lay and began seeding into the depths of the forefront of his mind.

Aura.

Sensing.

Ability.

Dimensional Scream.

Green scarf blowing backwards in the wind with his aura feelers glowing down to dusk, the Riolu sat as he looked out into the far-ranging reaches of the ocean, a wide-ranging sea that spanned for miles, one of which he needed to cross to enter and save the world from static paralysis that would end from an absence of the Time Gears, in a place that gave him shivering cold thoughts - the Hidden Continent to the Hidden Land.

That land stretched to the clutches of Temporal Tower, the ticking, the shifting, the gears spinning and grinding away from any passing second as the collapse of the world was paramount and prevalent than ever. He knew - deep down - with all of his heart that he was fighting for his survival.

Survival in this world.

Survival to exist.

Survival to save the very concept of time.

Tick tock.

Tick tock.

Tick... tock...

...

...

...

Panting. Freaking out. Panic.

In a blur and a freak of adrenaline, the Riolu was immediately sucked out of his stare and slammed into a trance of deceit and decaying worry.

For the Riolu, this was common, all too common.

Too so for even anything he even had to comprehend at all.

He kept hearing his name, repeated all the time.

"Harmony.

...

H-a-r-m-o-n-y

...

HaRmOny

...

H_A_R_M_O_N_y

...

HarMONY...

...

HaR-MonYyyyy...

...

Harmony..."

All the time. All the same ways, different ways of going about processing it.

The name, lingering like a parasitic curse he couldn't run away from was cursing the depths and thoughts, his aura circulating into blue flames of anguish. His pain. His lament. His fear. His now no longer collected thoughts to hide from the ways of which the world made him feel.

The world had been saved twice, once by himself and Flurr... the other of another supposed human called Cormac.

CORMAC.

The very mention of the name made him feel sick.

How? How could there be another human?

How could a Mudkip - a lone water-type with no knowledge except the realms of the sea he was looking out on - somehow have the tenacity of saving the world from this second enemy that could put Darkrai to shame? How could he have been so blind? How could he have not known there had to have been more than than Primal Dialga, than Palkia, than the cruel mythical who wiped his memory? How? How could he have just-?!

And there it came - an anguished scream, high into the air, an Aura Sphere charged from his anger pent up and thrown into the expanses of the sky and clouds above. He didn't care if it hit one of the flying-type Pokémon who may have been returning to their homes. He didn't care if there was someone who might have heard him. His anger had boiled over the line, the aura bursting with rage, a fight to be initiated and thrown to shatter the glass that separated where he had originally came from and where he currently stood.

He wasn't from this time - he was thrown into the time of the present, and there he was left to rot and pick up the pieces of his lost memory, reclaim the puzzle pieces that stitched together his identity. His two special abilities - the ability to possess aura and the ability to look at a particular event in the past or present in the form of a Dimensional Scream - clashed his human self and his amnesiac brain now, his brain time gears clicking away to the sounds of the churring his feelings made him process, repenting what felt like purposeful sins he was doomed to experience for whatever curse that took him to Arceus and the supposed times it got saved again.

To whom was this human anyway? How did he save this "Tree of Life"? And moreover... how did it remind him of his name, ironically named "Harmony". A name so ironic it threw the tandem of the world into turmoil. He could save his continent, but his counterpart could save the entire planet from another paralysis. The name of the Voidlands rung hollow and dug deep and when he was reminded of how the citizens of Treasure Town turned to stone from Dark Matter, he shivered in irony and terror.

Where had he seen this before? Why was it so familiar to him? How did he put the connections and synapses together to create the memories his Dimensional Screams would give him?

Why did it-?!

...

"I NOW PRESENT TO YOU MY "GIFT" - THE FUTURE!"

...

The... future? But how was it related? Why was it some sort of "gift" to be treasured for?

Did it relate to the name of the town he resided in and woke up from?

Did it have to do with...

...with...

...with...

...

...

"This world... will be turned to stone."

...

Stone? The world... turned to stone...?

The future... turned to stone...?

Planet's paralysis... the sun... all his friends turning to... stone...?

It's not... Dark Matter was it...? It was... it had to have been... hIm.

CoRMac.

HiS FauLT.

HiS aCtioNS.

HiS conSeQuenCES.

It had to have been him... it must've been... it had got to have been...

"Harmony, get out of it! Please... please... PLEASE! Snap out of it!"

A voice and a light burst through the darkness.

His anger blinded by aura, the tense feelings of pent rage swirling and swirling in his aura feelers, the shiver and the darkness tanging him down to the very core of his brain, the very core of his beating heart. The very core of the beating time on the continent. The very heart of the pendant... he had chained around his neck like a necklace, his way of remembering the times from before he was subject to the understandings of this world. And yet... someone had been calling out to him. Somebody who... cared about him... somebody... who... knew... about him.

A shake, a tussle, and a violent shaking was what shook him back to the realms of reality, the bush cover to Sharpedo Bluff and his second home moved to witness the eyes of a partner he depended on so much for emotional support that he knew that if he didn't back away now then what felt like a bad omen would follow.

Beady eyes stared back into his face as he felt his aura wind down, his brain and his heart slowing their rate down back into the ticking time of today. Noticing the pink scarf, the fluffy ears and a gaping worry of inward lament, his partner looked at him with a look of bewilderment and a look of sympathy.

"Flurr..."

"You have got to stop doing that. This has been the third time you have gone and left me whilst I've been trying to get a early nap. Your face and your aura... look like they've been all over the place. W-what happened to you?"

"It's not... it's nothing."

The Eevee pursed her lips and began to get the grumps with him.

"Nothing?! Nothing?! You call an Aura Sphere to the sky, an incredibly loud scream and a resuscitation of the same name nothing?! What's... what's going on with you? Please Harmony, it's important, for my sake, for our sake. Just... just please be honest with me."

Harmony sighed, a shiver still lingering from his shivered exterior and a lingering doubt seeded in his head over all that he had been experiencing thus far.

"I... I-I-I... okay, fine. I... I've been feeling lost... lately. Someone... someone on my mind."

With a perked eyebrow, Flurr wandered to the side of the Riolu and sat down next to him, tilting her head to get a better look at the young aura Pokémon-human.

"Who... who might that be? Someone from town? Someone from the guild?"

"No, none of them."

"Is it... Grovyle?"

The name made him flinch, giving a simple nod. However, given a shiver covered his face with something increasingly making him more erratic, the female Eevee took it into her power to push for a more firmer answer.

"If it's partly Grovyle, then who is it fully that's making you feel so bitter? Y-you're a... you're a good Pokémon Harmony, and just because you feel your name may make you feel that every lingering event of bad luck follows you to the ends of time... it feels like you're... holding a grudge against someone. Who?"

"I'm not..."

"Who?"

"Nobody..."

"Who?"

"Nothing for you to worry about..."

"WHO?!" she shouted now with more ferocity, getting tired of her best friend from trying to avoid her line of questioning.

A very long pause began to separate the two from talking. Shivering from the tense nature of what may have felt like a fracturing friendship slowly tearing away in that very moment, the Riolu human finally gave up and gave a long, deep, winded sigh. Deep breath in... deep breath out.

He had to admit, there was only so much he could run away from that he knew that anymore would make him a villain... and having given up his own life to bring the happiness to the very friend he cherished so much, the friend that always knew how to be with him no matter what was thrown their way, and... he was being a complete jerk about it. What was he even doing to himself? What was he even doing to them?

...

...

...

It had come to a point where he now had to realise he was no longer able to run away from his problems. Moreso, with those around him and everyone in tow who knew the ways of which he processed his thoughts day in and day out, he now needed to be the one to be helpful to them... after all that they had done for him.

But for everything that he felt like he managed to do for all that he cared about... he couldn't understand how that other human had managed to do the same.

"It's... i-i-i-i-it's..." he stammered, now quivering with the mere thought that he had to be honest in what he was thinking or going through the fear that his friend may never want to talk with him again.

"Well Harmony? I trust you. You know that."

A calmer demeanour covered the Eevee, now a brighter smile covering Flurr's face as she faced the irises of her companion and cherished partner.

"Cormac. His name's... Cormac."

Her eyes widened a bit, a surprise at the mention of the name of the other human who had given all he had to save those in which he loved.

"The other human? The human from the Water Continent?"

He paused, eyebrow raising. Now it was him that was the one asking questions to combat his many troubled thoughts for answers.

"H-him yeah. H-he... he makes me jealous."

"What? How come? How is he making you jealous? Harmony, you know you have me by your side. You... know I'm here for everything and anything you say. Even with it all going on in your head... you have to remember that I'm there when you cry, I'm there when you feel sad, I'm there when the both of us need each other to give ourselves even the most basic levels of morale... you know I'm there for you."

"I-I know. I know... I-I... know..." he shook, quivering now from his frustration. He didn't understand, why did Cormac have to be lucky? When did he manage to get the world back to the way it was, and when he had to save the world, he was forced to disappear, die at the hands of his partner then wished back in by the span of a miracle? How did he have it all?

He was now so lost, so deep in thought, that eventually it became so much for the Riolu to handle that he walloped to the ground and fell straight onto the mane of the Eevee's chest. Grabbing onto her scarf and using it as a handkerchief, Harmony lost it, beginning to cry in an act of desperation to get rid of all of the pain he had to endure when he was revived in this world. The Eevee was taken aback briefly, but stood still and nuzzled her head against the wallowing, wimpering body of her partner. Tear after tear, crying muffled sound after another, the world and time stood still again, just the two of them on a cliff with a flag blowing backwards and forwards to symbolise their hope for the continued time of their exploration team, hoping that somehow, with the way the world is that perhaps there was a way of reconciling the understanding of each other, both best friends clinging in an act to hope they were never torn apart again.

Flurr stood as Harmony wept. The scene was symbolic, the way they interacted flipped on the head. She cried, she screamed, she threw herself at him when he returned from balls of yellow light - she couldn't go and let go as she cried and cried and cried when he was back from Dialga's gift. This was no blessing from Arceus, it was them both getting a joint surrounding of happiness to look on for taking on more rescues, dungeons and finally discovering the true culprit of Harmony's amnesia.

It made him forget the dark, damp future where nothing roamed in radiant historia, instead stretched in stuck sickened time, stone flowing in midair, surviving Pokemon becoming feral, Sableye slashing them in pain as they tried desperately to escape the true culprit that fooled everyone - Dusknoir - and eventually coming across Celebi as they jumped through the time gate, not before Grovyle realising just why the ghost-type was as sick, twisted and demented as his master as his gleefully cackled at the sight of his misery and utter helplessness, all those memories growing up together, all of those times as human and partner they would go and run and use their unique abilities to give themselves one more sunrise... gone. Lost.

Forever forgotten. All because of that villain they tried so hard to defeat with Cresselia.

And now... Cormac, a human who didn't even know the both of them, now pairing up with Harmony's feelings of loss and grief. He felt like he should've been in his position, not the other way around. He got to stay... and he had to go.

"I... Cormac... he saved this world from Dark Matter. He saved us all - somehow - with some Bulbasaur. And yet... why did he manage to stay in this world from what I hear? How did he manage to... manage to... to... how did he get so lucky that he stayed and I had to disappear? He went through getting turned to stone according to that thing Yveltal, and y-yet... he saved this world, and we had to sit here as our friends were turned to stone... again! Why?! We saved this world from paralysis and it happened again! I was powerless... I could've... we could've done something, and he's so lucky to have everything. We lost Grovyle. I lost you. I died Flurr. I didn't exist for months. You coped without me... I didn't even get the chance to cry because I had to put on a straight face. I don't even come from this time and yet this is how I'm made to feel. Why must this be so cruel?! WHY?! I don't understand, I never, ever asked for this to happen to the guild, to you, to Grovyle, you both... I-I... why, why did it have to been him that he was so lucky with EVERYTHING he ever had?! Why why why why why?!"

This was everything he felt. A feeling of pure despair, the pain of seeing history repeat itself when the gift of time couldn't even help them. Not Temporal Tower collapsing; the Tree of Life wilting. Dark Matter's infestation infecting the tendrils of the tree's roots and then, like the Time Gears that flowed the passage of life on the Grass Continent, a ticking clock chimed again. The collapse of the planet, and not just everyone to save this world, oh no... everyone on the planet was going to die.

And it was all one other human who saved it... when this human couldn't move a single muscle to save those he loved the most. He felt like he was the one to have betrayed them all to a point they wouldn't want to speak with him in their lives ever again.

He had his Dimensional Scream... yet it was him that got screamed at back, when everything and everyone he ever knew turned into stone again and their souls sent to a place so horrifying it gave his traumatic aura even more jittery stimulations. Every time, when he felt like something positive was happening at long last to make feel like he was saving those that he cared about with all his heart... thrown away at a basic turn because he was forced to from some external reason. It happened all the time. It was the thing he just had to accept, no matter how painful the stabbing pierced and bruised him from the inside-out.

Feeling utterly powerless and defeated, the Riolu resigned into the mane of his partner, now releasing everything that was building up from the inside. He was tired, fed up, injured and terrified. All these thoughts together culminated into one thing - hatred for the other human.

Hatred against Cormac.

Crying and lightly punching his friend as he had no other way of releasing the anger in such a way that would make him feel comfortable, her friend soothed him by stroking his back and readjusting his scarf that had fallen down when he was leaning on her. What would deep breaths even do for him when it was bitterness toward the other human who seemed to know exactly what he was doing?

After what felt like a even longer dragged out silence, Flurr finally spoke.

"Y-you were... feeling this way after all this time? You've endured this in your mind for so long and you didn't tell me about how this was making you feel? You should've told me sooner Harmony. I... I care about you deeply, the entire town, the guild, we all care about you. So why pin this on just him? What did he do to you which makes you hate him so much?"

"He has a perfect life. He got to stay, I didn't... i-it... it's as simple as that. Everything I've ever tried to do has been reduced to just mere toying in the eyes of the world. No-one wants me around anymore. Somehow the Expedition Society has gotten more exposure from all of it and he's captured within the centre of it all. Look at me, I... I don't really have someone as special as he does to confide in. They've got Jirachi in their ranks, the Tree of Life's incarnate form is Xerneas and he must be close to them too, but me? Who do I really have? I've never felt so alone. Grovyle's not here anymore... and I-I-I want him back. He... he's the only real one who ever first stood by my side through thick and thin as a human, but because of Darkrai that damned mythical I can't... I can't even remember who I was anymore and it's all because of him. Who is Cormac anyway, where did he come from? If he had it perfect before I did in a future that I've always known to have been bleak from Primal Dialga then what do I even get to call a life in the first place?"

"Harmony, that's-"

Harmony turned to face Flurr with a serious face, not taking any sidelined topics for an answer.

"No. No don't you dare pretend to understand how you think I must feel. I'm stuck in some other hero's shadow. We're no longer in the guild, only just alumni after now making this cliff our home. If I had it more in me, I'd jump. Right now. It's not too deep to the bottom, I think I can-"

"DON'T YOU EVEN DARE HARMONY!"

From silent to distraught, Flurr ran in front of him and clung fiercely onto his two shoulders.

"Wha-"

"Don't. You. Even. Dare. Not after everything I went through, not after everything I had to endure just to get you back. Do you even know how it felt seeing you die in front of my very eyes? Do you even know what it meant to get you back safely from harm's way, from Primal Dialga, the future, Team Skull, Dusknoir, Palkia, Darkrai? Do you even know how much I wanted you back just so I could... I could... I could even see you again?! Do you know what I wanted most of all to inform other townsfolk of just how much you meant to me? Do you?! Well I'll tell you anyway! I wanted them to know your story, about how you gave me strength, you gave me courage, you made me feel I could be happy in myself and who I was, regardless of everything I've ever thought who I was because I couldn't even see myself in the reflection of the waters down on the beach. Everywhere I went, for MONTHS I travelled far and wide across this continent trying to help make you feel like you were still with me in spirit. You meant the world and still mean the absolute world to me. Look at us as a pair, we're Team Harmonia for a reason. Our team name comes from you Harmony. It's... it's always going to be the reason as to why I'm even able to keep on going in the first place."

"But still Flurr, you don't get how I-"

"I do know how you feel Harmony, but for once in your life can you just please listen to what I have to say without automatically writing it off?! I care about you and I want you to still be with me in my life! I want you still, please, Harmony I... I... I love you, with all of my heart!"

Stunned silence followed between the two. Perking up to look up at the more disturbed look coming from the Eevee, Harmony stood dumbfounded and speechless to the feelings that his partner had just said to him.

"You... you... you... l-luh... lo... love m-me...?"

His aura changed, rage and distress evaporating and morphing into a mixture of confusion, surprise and... bashfulness.

Realising what she had just said, her paws moved quickly over her mouth and a large blush made its way over her face like she had been caught trying to take an item from the town's Kecleon shop.

"Uh... I uh... I mean, I... guh... guh... hnnnnnnnn, why do you have to make this so hard for me with all of that mush you festered onto me you Harmonica!"

"H-Harmonica?!"

"Harmonica! Harmonica! L-look what you just made me say without me having the-the... oh dang it, I broke the surprise and it's your fault I did that!"

Now seeing she really truly meant the words she spoke, now it was his turn to creep up with red all over his face.

"W-w-w-wha... y-you... r-really... do... l-like me... and l-love me..."

"Stop saying it out loud you dingus!"

"I can't help it, you started it first!"

"No you started this first with the raging!"

"Oh no you don't even say that you Flurry Tomato!"

She widened her eyes and smirked. "What did you just call me Hoovering Harmonica?"

"Oh come on- oh now you asked for it you fuzzball!"

What preceded after this turned into a chase session around the bush that led inside their home on the cliffside of their den, chasing around in a mad dash of who would be able to take the first pounce on the other. Giggling, smirking and a changed aura for the Riolu completely flipped the mood the two had just been put through.

As dusk fell and night slowly morphed over the expanses of the sky above, both Harmony and Flurr fell to their backs and surveyed the shining stars that would now cover the black reaches of the heavens that seemed to pierce overhead. Neither would say a word again to one another, or at least that was what the Riolu human had thought.

Processing his thoughts again, he began to slowly take a deep breath in and a deep breath out.

...

...

...

In through the lungs, out through the lungs.

...

...

...

Through his body, out his body.

...

...

...

Fears gone in, fears gone away.

...

...

...

"Harmony?"

The reply came from his partner now staring at him from one curious face to another.

"H-huh? Yeah?"

"Are you still worried about what you were saying earlier?"

He took a long deep breath and sighed deeply. "I guess... about that stuff regarding Cormac... I still can't get him off of my mind. I still feel jealous over him but... I-I guess maybe not as much? I-I... still feel like he's just more lucky than I ever will be."

"Hey, that's not true."

"H-how would you even know that? You don't have the Dimensional Scream like I do. I can see into the past and present, and all I've ever been subject to is a cruel present and a tantalising future. I don't even know what you could call true happiness at this rate, but..."

"But what Harmony?" she asked, turning to face him as his paws emitted a disturbed aura.

"I... I wanna know where and why Cormac is the way he is. I want to meet him one day, to square off with him to see what he's really made of. If he passes then I forgive him for what he's done. If not well... you can see why I am the way I am now. I just want to get Grovyle back... no matter what."

"...I see. Yet Harmony, have you considered something? What would happen if you realise Cormac might... be in the same position as you? He may not have a friend anymore himself either. You mentioned a Bulbasaur, but if Cormac didn't leave... do you think perhaps he might have left instead?"

Widened eyes came from the Riolu yet again, his realisation dawning upon him that he had not even considered the possibility of the other human's partner disappearing instead.

"No, t-that... can't be true... c-can it...?"

She shrugged with a bit of confusion left in her eyes. "I don't know, I-I mean it was only a suggestion y'know."

"That may be true, but... but... he c-c-can't be suffering too... could he?"

"I couldn't say Harmony. If you want to know and really let him know how you feel have you ever considered maybe... visiting him in Lively Town? That's where I hear they all reside, all the main members of the Expedition Society. In case you weren't aware they're big helpers with the Guild, even Bidoof is off to visit them as far as I know."

"I-is he? T-then..." he exclaimed, clapping his paws together and focusing his aura back into himself, "I wanna challenge him to a test of strength, human to human. I have to know why he exists as much as I do here, and if he knows what to expect... then I can hopefully put this jealousy of mine behind me, even if I wouldn't call it guaranteed."

"That's at least the spirit... in the right direction," she smiled, before turning her head behind them.

The townsfolk at night still bustled despite the time that the both of them were still up, Pokémon walking to and fro from Spinda's Café to even walking up the famous steps to have Diglett exclaim "Pokémon Detected, Pokémon Detected, Who's Footprint, Who's Footprint" from every person who may have been in danger. That was what their exploration team was for, Team Harmonia.

The Riolu having woken up one day with little to no bearings of his surroundings, to all of the memories he had now created for himself standing right beside the very partner he now accepted as his loved one. The one and only Eevee who had seen it all, who knew the pain of losing Grovyle and the future, as well as the Tree of Life's second planet-covering paralysis. She knew, deep down, they could both help each other no matter what that was thrown their way. That was so much the enjoyments of living a life far into the Grass Continent of Treasure Town. Truly, he thought, I can feel like now... even though I feel neglected and unwanted... there's still one person I can still live for - the one right next to me.

"...Hey Flurr?"

"Oh, yes Harmony?"

"I've been wanting to also say this too, but... I love you too. With all of my heart."

"Wha-?! I uh..." she bashfully tried to hide behind her scarf, but failed. "...I love you too just the same."

A cuddle encapsulated the two, stars falling with the wish of the two to still be together no matter the cost. Stronger than twilight, stronger than midnight. Nuzzles, smiles and a few happy tears came through the both of their eyes. They looked at each other, nodding into the other's as they knew now that they would be here together no matter what.

Harmony opened his mouth to try and get to earn a reaction from his partner, but Flurr smirked and put a paw over his mouth.

"...I know what you mean, sweetheart."

A blush at the mention of the nickname, the both of them began to lean in, now meteor shower covering overhead as their light show made their love dance and blossom in the gleams of the moon. A human Riolu and time hero reunited with his beloved Eevee partner that he cared for just as much as his best friend whom he didn't know may ever see again.

The two would lean into each other's face, now fully intent on earning each other's love and affection before they both sealed the deal with a kiss.

"I love you Flurr, my sweeveetheart."

"Hehe, you cheeky aura doggy. I love you too Harmony. You give me my strength... my Harmonious Hugger."

The mention of their team name again brought back a smile to his face. A hug and and another kiss helped seal the deal as the two then hugged with one another to simply look up at the stars and watch. With each other by their sides, they were both confident of the long tiresome roads that they knew they would still face but would lead them to the answers of who exactly Cormac was.

But for Harmony, he only wanted one thing. He wanted his best friend to know he was still here, and maybe, just maybe if he wished long enough... maybe he would reappear again.

...

...

...

Sometimes though, life comes up unexpectedly. For Grovyle would come... and with it a new journey would begin with their own...

A/N: A shorter one-shot compared to my last one, but one I still wanted to write. Introducing the characters of Harmony and Flurr, the two other deuteragonists that will work their way into the story of my main PSMD AU fanfic To Look Upon The Future. In commemoration of one year ago when I first posted another one-shot that would kickstart my reinvolvement or writing fanfics, I decided to write something that I feel I'm not completely in the know of but either way, I hope you enjoyed this second in a series of various one-shots that take place within the same universe of the fic. If you haven't read the main fic or the first one-shot - By My Side And By Yours - feel free to read them. No prior knowledge of the main fic is required to read this story, but its contents will later be made canon to the overarching plot of how the main protagonists: Cormac, Espurr, Harmony and Flurr will unfold. If uni work doesn't get in the way too much longer I hope to write up a seventh chapter for the main fic soon enough, but for now I hope you enjoyed, thank you for reading!

This is me signing off.
