The Word Of A King And A Father
Jack smiled as he looked out the window. "Ah, it's turning into a perfect night," he said, noticing the full moon that was beginning to rise. "I think it will be a clear night for our celebration tomorrow night."
"Oh, I hope it won't be too clear," Sally said. "The witches were hoping for a bit of fog to do some scares."
"We can give them some fog juice to help out," the tall skeleton said before turning and looking at his wife. "Is our little Luna asleep?"
"Yes, all tucked in bed," his wife said with a smile.
Jack smiled. "I never would have imagined that I would have falling in love with the loveliest person I've ever met and we'd one day have a child," he said.
"Me neither," Sally said, hugging her husband. "And Father not only realized how happy we were, he created our child for us."
"I think he was hoping to have a grandchild and when we approached him about creating a child for us, he was ecstatic," the skeleton said. "Even Jewel was happy."
"She had been wanting to be a grandmother, so our request made her happy too," the ragdoll said.
Jack smiled before noticing how tired his wife looked. "Are you alright, my love?" He asked.
"Just a bit tired," she said. "For some reason, the spiderwebs gave me trouble today."
"Hmm. I hope it wasn't due to someone messing with them," he said.
"Hilda mentioned the spiders seemed to be nervous, afraid that Lock, Shock, and Barrel might try to bring Oogie Boogie back," Sally said.
"They won't," Jack reassured her. "They actually got scared after last time after Sandy Claws told them they wouldn't get the presents they wanted if they brought Oogie Boogie back again. They've been behaving themselves, save for pulling a prank or two."
"Didn't they move their treehouse to another tree? I think Hanging Tree mentioned that."
"They did. They even asked Hanging Tree to help them find a better place for their treehouse. I'm not sure if it was because of Sandy's threat of no presents or they just don't want to have their treehouse over Oogie's old home."
The two were quiet as they held onto each other. "Well, either way, at least they are behaving," Sally said before yawning again.
Jack smiled and picked up his wife. "Come, my love," he said. "Let's follow our daughter's example and retire for the night."
She smiled and kissed him. "That sounds wonderful," she said. "Snuggling with my husband."
The skeleton shivered at that. "Oh, you mischievous girl!" He said playfully, giving her sides a quick tickle to make her laugh before he stopped and carried her upstairs, going to their bed and gently setting her down on it. He then crawled in on the other side and wrapped his arms around his wife and she snuggled closer to him.
"My handsome man," she said.
"My lovely bride," he said, giving her a sweet kiss before they fell asleep.
In her room, Luna Skellington was tossing and turning, whimpering as she was caught in a nightmare. It was about Oogie Boogie and he was after her. She was running through the pumpkin patch, looking for her mother and father, but she couldn't find them. She tried finding her grandfather, but when she did, he glared at her and laughed as his head opened up to reveal his brain glowing green.
Screaming in shock, Luna continued to run, but Oogie Boogie was there and he laughed mockingly. "Where's your mommy and daddy now, little girl?" He taunted. "Nothing can stop me! Halloween Town is mind and I shall be King!"
"No!" Luna cried out before feeling like she couldn't run, trying to escape but it felt like her legs were stuck in something like a bog. "No!"
"NO!" Luna screamed as she bolted upright in bed, scrambling to get free of the covers that were tangled around her. After a moment of panic, she looked around and saw that she was safe in her bed. She looked outside to see the town was safe. She opened her window and gazed out.
"Wind?" She called out, feeling it gently ruffled her hair a moment later. "Oogie's not back, is he?"
The wind blew gently through her hair and she sighed in relief, knowing this meant 'no'. "Thank you," she said softly. "I had a bad dream that he had come back."
The wind blew through her hair again comfortingly before gently pushing her towards her bedroom door, opening it. Curious, she grabbed her favorite plushie and let the wind guide her down the hallway to the doors leading to her parents' room. She nodded. "Thanks, Wind," she said softly before going inside the room, finding her parents sound asleep. She went over to her father's side of the bed and reached out to touch his shoulder. "P-Papa?" She said softly.
Jack woke up at feeling something touch his shoulder and when he heard his daughter's voice, he turned to see his daughter standing there and she looked afraid. "Pumpkin?" He asked as he sat up and lifted her up into his lap, feeling his daughter cling to him. "What happened, sweetie?"
"I had a bad dream," she said. "About Oogie Boogie."
Jack felt his bones freeze at that. "What did he do?" He asked.
"He made Grandpa work for him and he said he was going to take over Halloween Town. I couldn't find you or Mama."
The skeleton held his daughter in a hug. "Shh, it's alright, pumpkin. Oogie Boogie won't get you and your mother and I are here. If he even tries to kidnap you, he will face a very protective mother and father."
Sally woke up, hearing them talking. "What happened?" She asked.
"Luna had a bad dream about Oogie taking over our town," Jack explained.
Sally leaned closer and rubbed her daughter's back. "Don't worry, honey. Even if Oogie does come back, he'll never get to you," she said. "I won't let him."
"Promise?" Luna asked.
"I promise," Sally said firmly. "I may not have fire powers like your father, but I will fight anyone who tries to kidnap or hurt you."
"And I will protect you too, pumpkin," he said.
She leaned her head on her father's shoulder. "You promise Oogie will never win?" She asked.
"We promise, sweetie," Sally said with a nod.
"You have my word as not only the Pumpkin King, but as your father too, Luna," Jack said. "And I never go back on my word."
The child nodded before snuggling closer to her father. "Mama? Papa? Can I stay with you? Please?" The little girl asked.
"Of course," Sally said instantly.
Jack nodded, kissing his daughter's forehead. "Let's get back to sleep," he said.
Sally lifted up the covers and Jack placed their daughter in the middle of the bed, both tucking her in and kissing the child's forehead in affection. "Good night, sweetie. Sweet dreams," Sally said softly.
"We'll keep the bad dreams away," Jack promised.
Luna settled down, falling asleep almost immediately as she felt protected and safe. Jack looked at his wife and she looked at him.
"Do you think Oogie might come back someday?" The ragdoll asked. "You did fight him twice."
"If he does, we'll defeat him again," the skeleton said firmly, gently stroking his daughter's head.
Sally smiled. "I don't doubt that," she said, kissing her husband and he kissed her back as they settled down, going back to sleep.
The wind saw this and came into the room, gently brushing over Luna's hair in comfort as if silently promising to protect her too before it left the family to sleep peacefully.
