Mourning Sirius: A Harry Potter Prompt

Mostly Canon Compliant, Ootp AU, Possibly CAPSLOCK Harry, Cho/Harry

His throat was dry and hoarse, eyes wrung out from crying. Sirius, his godfather who had died echoed through his mind. How the man had flocked so gracefully through the veil that Bellatrix had sent him through. The rage he'd felt was so strong, he tried to cast an unforgivable. His throat had burned from his futile screaming at Dumbledore, who had just told him it was either him or Voldemort who would survive at the end. Right now, dying didn't seem so bad to Harry. No, he snapped, what would happen to Hermione and Ron if he died or the whole wizarding world.

The same vexation came through Harry and he bawled his hands into fist, his nails digging indents into his pale palms. And he kicked the tea table in the Gryffindor common room that rattled and the tacky red and gold vase that was perched lopsidedly dropped and shattered. He bent down and cursed, getting more frustrated when his hands dyed blood red from mishandling the glass.

"Harry..." A voice tentatively appeared behind him, he turned his head so fast he might've gotten whiplash. It was Cho, how'd she get in here? He was about the bite back with an angry retort. When Cho spoke first. "I got here by asking one of the girls, they knew we were dating and I was looking for you." Harry's brows shot up and he muttered. "Not anymore since you decided to pick a traitor over me." And Cho stepped back as though she was burned, then softly put her hand on his shoulder.

"I heard what happened with Sirius and all... I just wanted to tell you I know how it feels -" Not again he thought as he saw Cho choke up and a trail of tears were starting to fall down her cheeks. "to lose someone you care about- !" She broke down fully now sobbing, racking her skinny figure as she was trying the reel back in her feelings. Harry felt more enraged, confused and sympathetic, confused because he didn't know what to do, enraged because she was acting like a human hosepipe again and sympathetic as he wanted to do that when Sirius had died.

She wiped her tears and tried to suppress her sobs, hiccuping while she did so. Cho's hand clutched and tangled her shiny jet black hair. "But they'll be fine now... don't ya think? Away from You-Know-Who, unlike the rest of us... they'll be spared from the p-pain." And Harry understood, but that only made him slightly jealous of Sirius; he got to see mum and dad again while Harry was bound in the cycle of life. Still parentless, and riddled with angst. Yet he still fathomed what Cho had said, she was one who suffered because of Cedric's death and Harry had pushed her away because he didn't know how to deal with her.

But they both needed this, an outlet, a shoulder to cry on. Because no one else would understand their recent losses. The regret, blame, sadness and anger - it was only him and Cho.
