Different Kinds Of Vampires

Chapter 1: Jiang-Shi (Chinese)

Oxana and Boris were bustling about. "Oh, we're going to have the Jiang-Shi as guests!" The red-haired vampire said happily. "The house must be perfect!"

"It will be wonderful," Boris said.

Bridget noticed the hustle and bustle. "What's going on, Vee?" She asked.

"Well, we have some guests coming tonight," Vee said. "There Jiang-Shi, or Chinese Vampires."

"V-Vampires?" Bridget whimpered.

"Wait, they're called Jia-what again?" Poppy asked.

"Jiang-Shi," Oxana said with a smile. "They have greenish skin and move around by hopping."

"So, they can't run or fly?" Bridget asked.

"Nope, they can only hop, but don't let that fool you," Boris said. "They can be very fast hoppers."

The bespectacled girl looked scared, but Poppy looked intrigued. "Do you think we could meet them?" She asked.

"I don't see why not," Oxana said. "We'll make sure to tell them about two humans here."

Just then, the doorbell rang and Boris answered it, welcoming the guests warmly. "Come in, come in!" He said, ushering them inside.

The female Jiang-Shi looked around. "Oh, I love the décor," she said.

"Thank you. My family and I did it ourselves," Oxana said.

"It is very charming," the male Jiang-Shi said before noticing the three children, noting one was a vampire and the other two were human. "You have humans here?"

"These two are our daughter's friends," Boris explained. "Humans who have accepted us."

"Really?" Said a young voice as a Jiang-Shi girl, who was no older than Vampirina, hopped into view. "They accept us? But I thought humans were scared of vampires."

Bridget whimpered a bit and Poppy looked worried. "Well, a little," she admitted. "But you guys are cool."

The male Jiang-Shi chuckled. "I can see you are trying not to offend us," he said knowingly. "Still, I do appreciate your honesty, child."

"And don't worry, we don't hunt humans," his wife said. "Though...I don't suppose I could ask you girls if you could let my daughter play games with you? Some of the kids where we're from...are not understanding."

The Jiang-Shi girl looked sad and Vampirina understood how she felt and turned to Poppy and Bridget. Poppy nodded at once while Bridget didn't look too keen on the idea, but nodded too.

As the family settled into their room, the girls invited the new girl, who's name was Lila, to play Skelly Run. She had never heard of the game before and so eagerly wanted to play.

The game went well until it was interrupted by Edgar, who had burst in. "Gotcha!" He said.

"What?" Vampirina said in shock.

"Edgar!" Poppy groaned at her twin brother.

Lila hopped up, startled. "Who is the intruder?" She asked.

"My brother," the brown-haired girl replied.

Edgar laughed. "You should see your faces," he said before his smile dropped and he looked serious. "But all joking aside, I wanted to warn you guys. There's some bullies in the neighborhood and they're egging people's houses. They hit mine and Poppy's house and I overheard them say they were going to break into here."

"What?!" Bridget asked in horror.

Lila didn't look happy. "I can scare them off," she said.

"Wait!" Edgar said. "I've researched you guys. You're Jiang-Shi, right? A hopping vampire?"

"Yes," the girl said.

"Oh, good, then this is going to work," the boy said.

"What do you have in mind, Edgar?" Vee asked.

As soon as they heard the plan, the kids agreed and quickly got ready.

The two bullies, a boy and a girl, broke into the Scare B&B and sneered. "Okay, this place is just ew," the girl said.

"Yeah," the boy said in disgust. "Well, come on. There's got to be some valuables around here."

As they were looking, humming filled the hallways and reached them. "What's that?" The girl asked.

"I see this night,

Under moonlight,

Sway, sway,

Play, play,

Stay, stay."

The melody was haunting and repeated itself, to which the bullies grew a bit too curious and followed it, coming to a hallway where five kids were, but something wasn't right.

Three kids looked like zombies and moved stiffly while one was a vampire that transformed into a bat and the last one was a vampire that hopped slowly and menacingly.

"Play, play. Stay, stay," the hopping person sang softly, repeating that phrase over and over again.

"Um, okay this is creepy," the girl bully said.

"Maybe we should get out of here," the boy with her said.

Just then, a door opened up and four other vampires came out, two hopping and the others moving menacingly. Another door opened and a skeleton came out, covered in slime and menacing towards them too.

The bullies screamed and ran out, going out the door and running right into their parents, who Edgar had called after learning the bullies' father was a policeman and memorizing the number when the boy's father had called earlier. "Dad! There's monsters in there!" The boy said.

"You kids are in so much trouble," he said.

"You broke into someone's home!" Their mother said. "I can't believe you! You'll be lucky if they don't press charges!"

Boris came out and the policeman turned to him. "I'm very sorry, sir," he said. "I'll make sure my children never bother you again."

"They disturbed our guests, along with us," Boris said.

"Oh, you kids are so grounded!" The mother said sharply before looking at Boris. "If you wish to press charges, we won't stop you."

"No, but I have one request," he said. "Your children destroyed some plants in my wife's garden and they need to be fixed."

The man nodded. "Kids, you are going to fix the garden and then we are going home," he said firmly. "You're both grounded until further notice, which means no trick-or-treating and no Halloween party for you two."

"But, Dad!" The girl protested.

"Nope!" He said firmly. "Now followed Mr. Hauntley to the garden. Your mother and I will be right behind you."

As the two bullies fixed the garden, grumbling, their parents apologized to the Hauntleys and their guests. "We are so sorry," the woman said. "This won't happen again."

"We'll make sure of it," the policeman said.

"Ouch!" The girl bully cried out. "It bit me!"

"Too bad!" The mother said, thinking her daughter was simply making it up. "Finish fixing the garden!"

"My arms hurt!" The boy said.

"Good, now you know how Mrs. Hauntley felt seeing her hard work destroyed!" The father said.

The garden was finally fixed and the two bullies were very sullen as they followed their parents to the car, turning back to see Lila and her parents looking at them before they hissed and hopped towards them, making the two bullies sprint for the car and get in without a single word.

After the family drove off, everyone laughed. "Okay, that was fun," Lila said.

"And clever!" Oxana said, ruffling Edgar's hair. "Though next time, please call us first before barging in, little one."

"Sorry, Mrs. H," the boy said. "I wasn't sure how much time I had to warn you guys before those bullies broke in, so I just rushed over here."

"And we are grateful that you defended us," the Jiang-Shi man said. "You're very brave."

Edgar blushed a little and they all went inside, Lila eager to play some more games and Oxana called Eda to let her know where Edgar was and Eda was fine with her son being over there. "He did mention something about seeing two kids looking to break in," she said. "I hope no one got hurt."

"Thanks to your son, us and our guests are unharmed," Oxana said.

For the rest of the evening, Lila taught the four kids a bit more about her culture, even encouraging them to hop like she did. They had fun and even Bridget found Lila to be an awesome friend.

"Maybe it won't be so bad meeting other kinds of vampires," the bespectacled girl said.

"Well, not all are nice, but most of them are nice," Lila said.

"We'll no doubt meet more soon," Vampirina said.

Little did anyone know, the small vampire's words were more true than they would realize.

So here we go! :) Now, eacox1787 and myself are doing our best to stay as true to these legends as possible, but this story is still going to be family friendly.
