Scaring A Villain, Halloween Style
It all started on a nice sunset in New York City. Lea Thompson had her jacket on while walking down through Central park which lead to a specific street she wanted to go to.
"Another beautiful season this," Lea said to herself, taking a deep breath upon the Fall air and letting it out slowly. "I can't wait to see what Balan has planned at his theater. Hopefully, I won't be the only one there who got invited."
As she was walking, she spotted Jack and he grinned and waved to her. "Hey, Lea!" He said, floating down to meet her. "Balan said you'd be here shortly."
"Jack Frost! Glad to see a familiar spirit of the Guardians here," Lea responded, smiling back. "Are the others here, too, or just you?"
"Just me," he said. "The other Guardians, save for Balan and Lance, are on missions at the moment. Gotta make sure Pitch doesn't try to ruin the fun for some of the kids."
"Good point. And I guess Viola Heart must be figuring things out in Wonderworld, too," Lea shrugged, already walking down to where the theater was. "Maybe we'll run into her to see how my icy counterpart is doing."
"Maybe," Jack said. "I certainly wouldn't mind seeing my winter twin."
Lea chuckled. "Yeah. Same here. Oh, I think we're here, Jack."
He turned to see they had arrived at the theater and Lance had just opened the doors. He looked relieved before motioning them in quickly.
"Hey, Lance. Is everything okay?" Lea asked, noticing something up.
"I wish it was, my dear," he said as he closed the door once they were inside. "Something is wrong, I fear."
"What's up, Lance?" Jack asked in worry.
"Wormsworth and Inkabelle have appeared again, but this time, they are causing a lot of trouble," the Guardian of Sadness said. "What's worse is that they have the Tims, little Yuri, and Lucy trapped somewhere. Balan's looking for them while I deal with cleaning up the left-behind rubble."
"Wormsworth and Inkabelle?" Lea asked, a little confused.
Jack thought about it until realizing what those might be. "Nega-Bosses. The very same creatures you once turned into as Blizzard Banshee. Am I right?"
"You are correct, Guardian of Fun. They are the Nega-Bosses that our Yuri and Lucy became when I was corrupted before," Lance replied with a nod. "I have kept the negativity in check, which is why I don't know how they are here. They shouldn't have been able to return anymore."
"Maybe Pitch Black is somehow behind this?" Lea guessed, recalling how he enjoys creating havoc and fear towards other people in becoming stronger.
Lance shook his head. "Thankfully, he is not. I checked into that as soon as Balan and I heard of the two's return," he said. "It is someone else and he is very unusual, but his love for striking fear into others for his meal makes my anger burn."
"Fear as his own feast? That's disgusting!" Lea exclaimed in shock. "Although...it somehow sounds familiar."
"Let's worry about that later. Lance, can you take us to where the Negabosses are keeping the others as prisoners?" Jack questioned, bringing out his staff. "I'm sure Lea and I can handle them."
"If it were only that easy, my friend, but I fear Inkabelle and Wormsworth hid our friends far from where they currently are," the maestro said. "Though there is some good news I have. Though they are not near us, our friends are not very far."
"So what are we supposed to do then?" Lea asked.
"Balan is searching for our friends as we speak," Lance said reassuringly. "I suggest the three of us stop whoever is behind this before his powers reach their peak."
"All right. And can you sense whoever is doing this so we can possibly observe who we're up against from a distance?" Lea suggested, bringing out her Crystal-Shifter. "Katherine always says that it's best to study an opponent in order to come up with a strategy plan."
"Yes, I can," Lance said with a nod. "He is actually in Cal's world, though I do not know why. Perhaps because it has black and white patterns much like his outfit that he wears. I fear he may make some children cry."
"That's not good," Jack said before recalling something. "You know, a good friend of mine was once telling me about a weird clown that wore black and white and had a thing for making people afraid since he feeds on fear. An energy vampire of sorts. I think his name began with a Z. Zombo or something like that."
Lea slowly looked at Jack with a shocking realization on her face. "Oh, sugar cookies...Zombozo. I remember reading about that guy more than once in the Golden Goose bookstore. Always gave a hard time with the Grant Mansion residents. Especially Ben Tennyson. If he's truly the bad guy we're dealing with, then we got to stop him right now!"
Lance nodded in agreement. "Come with me," he said. "We must hurry. If Inkabelle and Wormsworth are not stopped soon, it will be too late. And I fear when that happens, we will all face a terrible fate."
They moved fast and soon made it to Cal's world. A few Paladin Punchers and Quadarius greeted them, along with Cal, who looked worried.
"We've tried hitting Inkabelle with all we got to stop her, but she's a slippery foe," the former champion said.
"What about Wormsworth?" Jack asked.
"We haven't seen him yet, but I hear him zooming around," Cal replied.
A Floaty Flower ran up to them. "Wormsworth is dropping boxes on us!" She cried out.
Just then, horrible laughter rang out. "Yes, all that fear!" A nasty-sounding voice said. "More! More!"
Lea, whom activated her Crystal Shifter to create as an ice hockey stick, kept her guard up as much as Jack Frost.
"That's got to be Zombozo. He's close," Lea said, looking around.
Jack nodded in agreement. "Lance, you and Lea get Zombozo," he said. "The rest of us will handle the Nega Bosses."
"Good idea, Jack," Lea said, looking over at the Guardian of Sadness with a knowing smile. "I could definitely use Lance's help for what I have in mind to stop Zombozo. He might be the answer we're looking for. Come on!"
Lance nodded. "Take care, Jack, and you too, are friends," he said. "Hold strong. The villain's terror must end."
He then turned to Lea and gently pulled her into a hug. "Hold on tight, my dear. And take care to not let Zombozo get your fear."
"With you by my side, I won't be scared," Lea assured, hugging Lance back.
Nodding, Lance took to the air, carrying Lea with him as she held onto him trustingly. They soon landed on a high building that had a wall that was partially built. This gave them the advantage of looking around without being seen.
A moment later, they saw someone come out of a nearby picture frame and spread what looked like either ink or paint everywhere.
"Is that one of the Negabosses or costumes, Lance?" Lea questioned.
"A Negaboss and a fearsome one, dear girl," he replied. "She is the negativity from Lucy's world."
"Guess that makes her Inkabelle," Lea stated, recognizing the ink works. "But where's Zombozo? I thought we heard him around here?"
"That we did. But he must be well hid," Lance replied.
"AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! YES! YES! MAKE THEM SCREAM MORE!"
That voice made both Lance and Lea duck down. "I believe that would be our answer now," the Guardian of Sadness said before clutching at his chest and wincing. "What in the Wonderworld? Ow."
"Lance, what's wrong?" Lea asked in concern, seeing her Guardian of Sadness in pain. "What's happening?"
"I...I am feeling pain, but it is not my own," he admitted. "What this pain is, the origin is unknown."
Lea gasped, as a sudden flashback came through her mind of seeing this before. "It's your belief. With everyone becoming too afraid, it's hurting you. Unless we stop Zombozo...You and the other Guardians here will become weak enough to disappear."
"That does make sense," he replied. "Whoever this fear is coming from is very tense." He peeked over the wall and gasped in shock. "He is frightening little Yuri. That fiend. Frightening a young child like that is quite mean."
"Ugh! If only we have an Ectonurite or some other Galactic Monster to terrify him!" Lea growled in frustration. "Zombozo has had bad past experiences with Ectonurites where he's mortified in seeing one. And if we scare him, then it's game over for him."
"He is a monster himself, yet terrified of a...what exactly is an Ectonurite, my dear?" He asked. "And you mean to say that to lose his power, he must fear?"
"Yes. Even though he feeds on fear, Zombozo is not immune to being scared himself," Lea explained, grabbing her backpack to get her drawing book with a page that showed a section labeled 'Galactic Monsters of Grant Mansion'. "As for an Ectonurite, it's an alien ghost. Last I read about him, Zombomzo tangled with an Ectonurite hybrid girl who went as her full scary form and traumatized him."
"Hmm," Lance hummed, intrigued by this knowledge. "My dear, I have an idea, one to help our friends' hearts. But it requires two people. Would you be willing to play a part?"
"If it means saving you and everyone I care about, then you bet your Wonderworld I will," Lea stated with determination.
He smiled. "I admire your spirit, my dear. Therefore we must make haste," he said, taking her hand and guiding her down some stairs and to a backstage area hidden from sight. "Let us teach that clown his actions are in poor taste."
Meanwhile, Zombozo was enjoying himself as Yuri ran as fast as she could, trying to avoid the balloons and chattering teeth the clown was sending her way. "Help!" She screamed, ducking just in time to avoid the ink and paint splatters Inkabelle was throwing at her.
An evil-sounding laugh was above her and she looked up to see Wormsworth moving towards her, moving fast and tossing out web balls that she dodged, almost getting stuck a few times. She ran around the corner and no sooner had she done that, she felt someone grab her arm and she was about the scream, but a hand gently covered her mouth. Her wide eyes saw it was Cal who had caught her. "Easy, kiddo. It's me," he said.
She glomped him and he picked her up, quickly moving out of sight into another structure. Quadarius, along with a few other Quad Cannons and some Paladin Punchers, were there and they stood before the chess champion and the young girl, ready to defend them.
"Glad to see you away from that mean clown, Yuri," Jack said, flying down while making it snow lightly around the girl to put her mind at ease. "Don't worry. Lea and Lance are gonna stop him."
Yuri and Cal both smiled. "Good to see you again, Jack," Cal said. "Wish it was under better circumstances, but nonetheless, we're glad you're here."
Yuri looked at Jack. "How are Lea and Lance going to stop that awful clown?" She asked.
"Let's just say that, between Lea's book knowledge and Lance's spooky yet protective nature, I can already tell that they're the perfect team in giving Zombozo a taste of his own medicine," Jack assured, having faith in his friends.
"It's good to see you have so much faith in them, my friend," came Balan's voice. "Zombozo's terror spree will quite soon come to an end."
"Balan!" Yuri said, reaching for him and Cal handed the girl to the Maestro, who held the young girl protectively. The little girl then saw the Tims and Lucy behind Balan and the painter was smiling.
"I'm glad you're safe, Yuri," she said.
"You too, Lucy," the little girl said as Cal went up to Lucy and took her hand lovingly.
Balan smiled. "I must admit some curiosity, Yuri. How in the first place of that prison did you break free?" He asked.
Lucy smiled. "Merry Ghost came to the rescue and merged with Yuri to help her escape, but before the rest of us had a chance, that evil clown came back," she said. "I encouraged Yuri to run and find you or Lance, not knowing you were on your way to find us."
"You did the right thing, Lucy," Jack said, smiling at the painter. "Don't think we've been properly introduced. The name's Jack Frost. Guardian of Fun."
"Lucy Wong, an artist of the paints," she said, smiling. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Jack. Balan and Lance told us all about you and the other Guardians coming to save Lea from a horrible being that tricked Lance."
Balan nodded. "And just as Pitch Black did not succeed in his plan, the clown called Zombozo won't succeed either," he said reassuringly before one of the Tims, who had been keeping a lookout, chirped and the Maestro of Happiness looked surprised before smiling. "Ah, I believe Lea and Lance are about to restore everything right for every believer."
And he was right.
Lea took a deep breath, having met up with one of the Merry Ghosts and the costume had agreed at once to help, merging with Lea, who was at first a little unsure, but as she floated around with Lance's help, she got the hang of it. "Okay, I'm ready," she said. "I really hope this works."
"It will," Lance promised as he took a deep breath and his negative form soon overcame him. He reached out a hand and Lea took it, trusting him fully.
"Let's do this," Lea stated, ready to scare the evil clown.
"As my counterpart would say, it's showtime," the Guardian of Sadness said.
Zombozo was currently looking for Yuri, feeling her fear dissipate. "I need that fear," he said.
Something suddenly appeared before him. Something that looked like a cross between a ghost and an octopus. "You creep!" A female voice said angrily.
"Very uncouth and distasteful," said a male voice, equally angry. "Your actions are quite disgraceful."
Zombozo stepped back in slight horror when seeing this. "No...It can't be...Not another one."
"How dare you prey on innocent children like that!" The female voice boomed, signaling Lance to unleash his tentacles. "You shall face the consequences for this treachery!"
Tentacles unleashed from behind the ghost and moved towards Zombozo. "We've been told you dislike being sad and blue," the male voice said. "Let us see if that is true."
Zombozo went white in the face and then the tentacles grabbed him, making him scream before his body inflated and he exploded like a balloon, leaving only a bit of confetti behind.
Lance laughed in amusement as he hugged Lea back. "Indeed, he did not stand a chance against me and you," he said. "Looks like one was defeated by the power of two."
Just then, a roar sounded and Jack came out, soaring fast and freezing Inkabelle and Wormswroth. "Lance? A little help here, please?" He asked.
"Of course," the white-haired maestro said, snapping his fingers and the two Nega bosses shrunk down until they were gone. "There. That is better."
The costumes came out, along with Cal, Lucy, Yuri, and Balan. The Guardian of Happiness smiled proudly at his counterpart and Lea. "Well done, you two!" He said. "You both came through."
"As if we were going to let that clown get away with his antics," Lea said. "But...how did he get into the theater and Wonderworld in the first place?"
"He found me as I was leaving the home of some friends of ours and he kidnapped me, which made the theater appear," Yuri explained.
"I sensed Yuri was in danger, trapped in the arms of a stranger," Balan said. "But that uncouth clown managed to slip by and come here to Wonderworld and before I could stop him, Wormsworth appeared to kidnap the little girl. Not long after that, Lucy and the Tims were taken away, to which I sought Lance's help before entering the fray."
"Which must have been around the time we arrived," Jack said.
Lance nodded and smiled. "And now, thanks to you two helping out, that evil clown is no longer about," he said before going up to Lea and hugging her, kissing her forehead affectionately. "And thank you for trusting me, my dear. I know my negative form can for many cause fear."
"I knew I was safe with you, Lance, and I trust you," she said.
Balan smiled. "Now then, I believe you and Jack came here for a party, Lea?" He asked.
"Yes," she said.
"Then there shall be no more delay!" Balan said with a laugh as he snapped his fingers. "Let the party begin and the music play!"
And the party was on! Jack dressed up as a spider and Lea was dressed as a combination of Merry Ghost and the Guardian of Sadness. Balan had been more than happy to help out and Lance felt humbled by Lea's choice. Even Merry Ghost was thrilled.
The party was a blast as the other Guardians were able to come and some of the aliens Lea knew were able to come too, having heard of Lea and Lance's victory over Zombozo. As the party continued, a good song came on and everyone began dancing, enjoying the good food and company through the night.
