Never A Freak In Your Mother's Eyes
It was a calm night and Roller Brawl was sleeping in her husband's arms when her sharp ears picked up whimpering and she sat up, recognizing the whimpering all too well. Blaze stirred beside her, opening his eyes and sitting up too. "My lovely rose?" He asked. "What is it?"
"It's Flare," she said, pinpointing where the whimpers were coming from.
Blaze woke up more as he heard his eldest daughter whimper and they got out of bed, putting on bathrobes before going down the hallway, the Fire/Undead/Water Portal Master checking on their other five girls while Roller went to go see why Flare was upset.
She entered the room and found her eldest daughter crying and holding her mouth. "Sweetie, what's wrong?" Roller Brawl asked, having a feeling she knew, but she wanted to be certain.
"My teeth hurt, Mommy," the little girl said, sniffling.
"Let me see," the skater said gently, holding her daughter's chin as the little girl opened her mouth. "Which teeth hurt? Can you point them out to me, sweetie?"
Flare pointed to her upper and lower canine teeth. "Those ones, Mommy," she said, whimpering again.
Roller Brawl nodded. "I thought so," she said. "Your fangs are growing in."
The little girl whimpered. "It hurts, Mommy," she said.
"I know, sweetie. Mine hurt too when they started growing in," she said. "Hold on. Let me see if I've got something to help with the pain."
The skater left the room and checked the medicine box, but didn't find anything that could help. She hated to bug her father so late at night as it was nearly midnight, but she called him up.
Night Shift groaned when he heard the phone and he picked it up. "Hello?" He groaned out sleepily as his wife woke up a little.
"Who is it, honey?" She asked.
"Dad, it's me," Roller said. "I'm sorry to call so late, but I need some help."
Night Shift woke up more. "What's wrong, sweetie?" He asked. "Is someone trying to break into the house?"
"No, thankfully," the skater said with a smile, knowing if someone was breaking into the house, her father would come protect her and the children with Blaze beside him, fists and swords blazing. "But Flare's fangs are growing in and she's in pain. I'm not sure what to give her to help out."
Déjà nodded as she heard that. "Oh, yes," she said. "You had a hard time too when your fangs grew in, honey."
Roller Brawl nodded. "I know you guys gave me something to help, but I can't remember what it was," she said.
"Peppermint oil," her father replied. "Do you have some?"
"Yes, I do," the skater said, going to the kitchen and pulling it out.
"Put that on Flare's gums where her fangs are growing in and it should help with the pain," Night Shift said. "Also, chewing on some jerkey will help. If you put a little bit of peppermint oil on it, it will help immensely. It did for you when your fangs grew in."
Roller Brawl nodded. "Okay, thanks, Dad," she said. "Sorry to bug you so late."
"No worries, sweetie," he said. "Let us know how it works."
"Will do. Thank you."
Wishing her parents well and saying she loved them, Roller Brawl grabbed the peppermint oil and going to her daughter's room. "Okay, sweetie. Let's see if Grandma and Grandpa's remedy works."
"What is it?" The young girl asked.
"Peppermint oil."
Flare liked peppermint and allowed her mother to put the oil on her gums, sighing in relief when her gums stopped hurting. "It worked, Mommy," she said.
"Good," Roller said. "We'll have to put the oil on your gums until your fangs fully grow in."
The little girl then looked away. "Mommy, am I a freak?" She asked softly.
"What?!" Her mother said in shock. "Who told you that?"
"The bullies," the little one said softly. "They said I was a freak and you wouldn't want me anymore."
Roller Brawl shook her head. "Sweetie, that's not true at all," she said, picking up her daughter and holding her. "I would never not want you as my daughter. I wanted you even before I first held you in my arms after you had been born."
Flare sniffled. "R-Really?" She asked.
"Yes," the skater said. "When you were inside my tummy, I knew I wanted you, even though I was afraid your father would break up with me and not want you. But he proved me wrong and the day you were born was one of the best days in my entire life, besides the day I married your father and the days I was reunited with my brothers and parents."
The child looked up at her. "You really wouldn't leave me, Mommy?" She asked.
"Never, sweetie," her mother said. "When I first held you after you were born, I swore I would never leave you and I would never let you down. And when you opened your eyes and looked up at your father and I, you had us wrapped around your little finger."
Flare giggled and giggled louder when her mother tickled her stomach. "And our promise hasn't changed in all these years," she said, lifting her daughter's pajama shirt up just enough to expose her stomach and blew a big raspberry right over her belly button.
"AHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! MOMMY! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" The little girl laughed, squirming to get away as her mother blew another raspberry into her daughter's stomach before tickling her sides and stomach with her fingers, making the little girl laugh again.
"Who's my ticklish little one?" Roller Brawl cooed before getting a sneaky idea. "You know, fangs are really good for munching on yummy, ticklish little tummies."
Flare squeaked before laughing hard as her mother began playfully 'eating' her stomach. "Yum! Yum! This little tummy is delicious!" The skater said playfully, making her daughter squeal before laughing her hardest as a raspberry was blown right over her belly button again.
Roller chuckled before letting her daughter up, the little girl giggling still before looking up at her mother and snuggling into her hug. "Mommy, you promise I'm not a freak?" She asked.
"You're never a freak in my eyes, sweetie," her mother said, making the little girl smile and feel better. "Now then, it's past your bedtime, honey."
She said this gently and her daughter looked up at her with puppy eyes. "Mommy, can I stay with you and Daddy tonight? Pretty please?" She asked.
Roller Brawl chuckled. "Alright, sweetie," she said, picking her daughter up and walking down the hallway, meeting Blaze at their bedroom door and the Portal Master looked concerned.
"Is my little spark okay?" He asked.
"Her fangs are growing in," his wife said.
"Oh," he said, nodding. "How long until they fully mature?"
"Usually a few years, but the first year is a bit hard because they're growing in."
Blaze nodded and Flare looked at her father and reached for him, to which he held her and hugged her. "My little spark," he said. "No matter how old you get, you'll still be my little girl."
The little girl smiled and rested her head on her father's shoulder before yawning. "Flare asked to stay with us," Roller said.
"Of course she can," Blaze said as he carried their daughter into the bedroom. He and Roller settled down and Flare moved to be in between her parents, settling down happily as her father tucked her in and her mother kissed her forehead.
"Sleep tight, sweetie. We love you," Roller said.
"Love you, Mommy. Love you, Daddy," Flare said.
"Love you too, little spark," Blaze said.
The child fell asleep and Roller looked at her husband. "Honey, would you take the girls to visit my parents tomorrow?" She asked. "I'm going bully hunting."
"Bullies said something they shouldn't have said to our little spark?"
"Yes."
Blaze didn't argue with his wife. "I'll go with you," he said. "We'll ask one of our friends if they can watch the girls for a bit."
Roller nodded before she and her husband settled down and fell asleep, ready to defend their children from anything and anyone.
