EPOV
"Oh Isabella, I just remembered something. I've been invited to New York fashion week. Would you like to accompany me?" Mom asked Bella when we were at the dinner table, "I'd have liked Edward to go with you, but he hates fashion shows, don't you, Edward?" she chuckled.
"Oh, I really hate them." I said.
"Oh, you said you didn't get the invite this time." Alice chimed in.
"I got it today." she told her.
Jasper put her arm around Alice's shoulder and squeezed it. Okay, I guess she wanted to go. I saw Isabella also noticed that.
Then she turned her face towards Isabella again, "So, would you like to come with me, Isabella?"
Mom was pathetic! She should have respected Alice at least when Isabella and her family were on the same table!
I was glad Isabella had noticed Alice's reaction. I guess she'd decline the offer.
"I'd love to accompany you," she smiled.
Great!
"Cheers to the new beginnings." Mom said and she smiled, while shooting a glance at Alice.
Wow. Brilliant!
Only one snob wasn't enough in the family, you know?
"I can't thank Edward enough to find such a lovely daughter-in-law for me!" Mom said.
The audacity!
I wasn't sure how I even managed to smile at that. I guess I was a pro at controlling my emotions in public now.
"Cheers to the lovely couple." She said.
"Cheers." Isabella smiled again.
Fuck my life.
"Cheers," I said.
Didn't I know how she was?
Then why had I started seeing positive things in her?
I guess I had even begun to like her company.
What a moron I was!
Why did I start feeling like that?
I should have remembered that there was nothing to like about her.
She was exactly like Mom!
Of course she was going to throw tantrums if things didn't work as she'd have liked!
"You're so young," Mom said.
"I'm not saying I'm going to marry her tomorrow, but I'll marry her someday." I said.
"Don't be stupid! She's a drummer, and you do realize who and what you are, right?" she said.
"There's no need to look down on anybody's profession!" I said. She was getting on my nerves, like she always did.
"I can say whatever I wish, and I will." she said, "You've lost your mind!"
"Well, I love her, and I'm going to marry her someday." I said, "You can do whatever you want."
"I'm going to kill myself if you ever marry her." she said. "I'm not kidding! I didn't spend my whole life working on this business empire just for you to marry a fucking peasant and destroy our family's reputation and legacy."
Like, really?
"Seriously? This is a really low blow," I said.
"Try me." She said.
Isabella was exactly like her!
She threw tantrums like a child only because she didn't get the answers she wanted.
Maybe this could have been avoided if I had given her straightforward answers.
Why did I even expect her to have faith in me?
Didn't the point of getting married with conditions was that none of us wanted any issues that the normal couple face?
Why the hell were we fighting then?
That was a normal couple's job!
I guess the right thing here would be to tell her the truth, and then we could go back to where we were on the first day. We didn't need to have any expectations from each other.
That's the only way we were going to make this work.
But the thing was, as she was just like Mom, she was not going to call me first. I was the one who would have to keep my ego aside and call her.
But the point was, should I even do that?
Why should I give in?
