Max Dark was not your ordinary girl. For 10 years, she had been living what seemed like an ordinary life in the small town of Beaver Creek, Oregon. But she had a…weird family. Now, she knew that a lot of families were weird. But hers was…DEFINITELY the weirdest.

See, her mothers weren't COMPLETELY human. As it turns out, monsters did indeed exist. Lucy was a special kind of monster: Half-monster, half-demon. And the Queen of Nether, where her Makai kin lived. Dina was a shapeshifting lizard monster who, in another life, was made as a lab experiment.

And Max had a little monster of her very own: Her very own shadow was alive, calling herself Maximum Darkness. She could possess Max, giving her an older and stronger body. She first emerged when Max was captured by a witch called Veruca Curry. Her life had never been normal ever since.

It would never be, after all, if your mom was a descendant of both Dracula and Satan.

It took some time, but Max got to bond with her shadowy self. The training was tough, too, but she would need it in order to stop who Veruca was working for: A living ventriloquist dummy named Slappy.

Slappy was bent on world domination. He had already corrupted the town of Hollowville, Ohio. And soon, he would move to the rest of the world. The Dark Family needed to finish Max's training before they could join.

And to prove herself, Max had to defeat a powerful monster in a school basement. Once she did, she joined her mothers in a final battle against the evil dummy. The battle felt long and hard, but with a special incantation, the dummy was finally dead. This time, for good.

Max thought that was it. That it was all over. Finally, her life could be normal again. Or…at least come close to it.

But that was before. Before the nightmare. Before the hallucinations. And before the voices in her head. Those that were NOT Maximum.

Green flashes of light. Showing faces beyond her understanding. Weird tentacle things. And some kind of sunken city with incredibly weird geometry and design. With a door. A door the size of a mountain and as straight as a monolith.

The voices. What were they saying to her? She couldn't make it out clearly. All she heard was what she thought was gibberish.

"Cahf ah nafl mglw'nafh hh' ahor syha'h ah'legeth, ng llll or'azath syha'hnahh n'ghftephai n'gha ahornah ah'mglw'nafh."

And then, she saw something flash before her eyes. A sight so horrifying, so ugly and grotesque, so nightmarish and scary, that even the simplest of words couldn't even BEGIN to describe it!

It was enough to make her jolt awake in bed, sitting straight up and panting heavily. Max heard her heart pounding as if wanting to break free of her rib cage. Meanwhile, she clutched her head, feeling as if her very brain was in pulsing pain.

"Seriously? That voice again?" The shadow behind her asked, sharing the same mind. "What the hell's SAYING that crap?! And…what WERE those things?"

"I…I don't know." Max said. "It…it happens every time I fall asleep. Maybe something's trying to…TELL me something. But what?"

It didn't feel like demonic possession. No…somehow, this felt worse. Whatever "this" was.

"Pardon my language, by the way. This has been going on for a WEEK! I'm not so sure if I can even TAKE it anymore!"

Max looked at her alarm clock. It was 3 in the morning. Only three more hours before she had to get ready to go to school…

She sighed. Somehow she was ending up doing some weird things lately. Drawing some tentacles without realizing it, writing down some weird language, sleepwalking around the house, even murmuring some weird gibberish in her sleep. Maximum Darkness would sometimes have to smack her awake.

Some of these incidents even happened in school. Max SWORE that she didn't have ANY idea about what was happening to her. She remembered that Mrs. Lisa had gone through something similar, becoming this Dark Chaos thing. Was Max becoming one?

Max couldn't sleep. All she could do was lay back down and listen to her moms in the other room.

"It's been a week since we dealt with him, and Mirpo's still freaking out over this dark future from still happening…" Lucy was saying. "Plus, have you noticed that Maxie was starting to act a little…off?"

"Tara said she had a vision of that future." Dina added. "And Max doesn't even know what she's doing. She said so! She doesn't even remember sleepwalking last night! Maybe we should take her to a therapist? It's not good for a kid to have such trauma and stress."

"Yeah…Lisa had gotten some…and look what almost happened. You…you really think IT'S gonna take action?"

"I…I really don't know. I just pray that we managed to thwart it for good."

"Uhhh….a-are you okay?"

Max took notice that the moon was shining down with its green light over her. And she was glowing in the dark. But what struck her the most was the weird tentacle-like vines on her luminescent skin.

And the glow itself…it was…a mysterious color, unlike any seen on Earth…
