Chapter 2: Three Dots

Dipper, Karim, Mabel and Gus stood at the lawyer's door at the headline was Dwiggins - lawyer. It was a rather small brown house, the four noticed that the door was not closed. When Mabel tried to enter, they heard someone in the house calling for help.

Dwiggins: Help! Help!

Gus: Quick, let's see! Come on!

The four ran into the house and up the stairs in an office with a desk full of paper. The cries for help came from a closet next to the door. Karim and Dipper opened the door of the locked closet and a small old man with a bald head and glasses, but the glasses were not properly on his face.

Dwiggins: Thank god! That you guys came!

Mabel: Who lock you up here?

Dwiggins: Thank you very much! (coughs) A few more minutes and I would have suffocated in the closet. But, but, who are you?

Gus: I'm August August, we talked on the phone about the inheritance.

Dwiggins: yes, but I know you two, aren`t you the twins who have stopped this hideous apocalyp- umm I mean you know what.

Dipper: Exactly!

Mabel: Yup.

Gus: Yeah, they help me decipher this mysterious message from Uncle Horatio.

Karim: What happened, ?

Dwiggins: Happened? Heaven! So much! I have been attacked. Brutal, as you usually only see it in the movie. My life was in danger, I don't know...

Karim: , who attacked you?

Dwiggins did not answer the question, but instead rummaged through the files and sheets on his desk.

Dwiggins: My secret archive! That criminal has rummaged through my files! What did he take? What is this? The stapler there on the table, I didn't put it there!

Dipper: Calm down, !

Dwiggins: Your uncle's files, I was his legal advisor for 20 years. The letter! It`s gone!

Gus: What letter?

Dwiggins: The guy who attacked me took my copy with him. The copy of the testamentary message from Horatio August.

Karim: Please, tell us what happened!

Dwiggins: I was sitting here at the desk, then the door opened and a man with a black beard and sunglasses came in. He grabbed me and locked me up. If you hadn't freed me, I would have suffocated.

Karim: How long were you in the closet?

Dwiggins: Hours! Many hours!

Mabel: Was Horatio August like rich or something?

Dwiggins: Rich? No, not really. I had to sell the furniture and his house to pay for the funeral from the proceeds.

Dipper: And yet he must have left something very valuable to his great-nephew Gus.

Dwiggins: That's right, young man. I don't know what it is, but Horatio August once said to me, "Henry, there are things about me that you better not know. Remember only one thing: If you ever see a man with three tattooed dots in this area, on his forehead, then look ahead. It's about the Fiery Eye. It could become dangerous." He was a mysterious man, the newspapers were right.

Mabel: Newspaper?

Dwiggins: Yes, the Gosspier. You have reported extensively on him. Also, that he will be Fortune partly acquired in Spellstorm you know the area near Gravity Falls.

Gus: How do we find out what he meant in the letter to me?

Karim: Let's start by looking at his house. Where is it?

Dwiggins: At the noon canyon. But you won't find anything there. I already said that I sold everything that was in this house. Last things i sold were these plaster busts.

Karim: Plaster busts? Of famous people?

Dwiggins: Yes, that's right. I sold them to some weird guy.

Karim: we have to go now. I think I now know what the secret message means.

Dwiggins: You know?

Karim pulled the others out of the house while Dwiggins was still calling for the children but Karim doesn't seem to care, it seems to me that an enlightenment has taken place in Karims' head. The four ran back to the Shack while on the way Mabel, Gus and Dipper talked to Karim.

Mabel: Oh, man, Karim, now talk! You're competing with the fire department.

Karim: It's not about a fire, but about a Fiery Eye, Mabel.

Mabel: I don`t get it.

Dipper: Karim, you got behind the secret message, right?

Gus: Really?

Karim: I think I've got it. Do you remember the sentence in the letter where it says "August is the guardian of your luck"?

Mabel: And?

Karim: The plaster busts of famous people. Washington, Lincoln. And then there was the head of an August. Augustus from Poland.

Gus: "August is the guardian of your luck". That's what my uncle wrote.

Dipper: So you mean that there is something hidden in the bust.

Karim: I am sure of it. It all fits together exactly. Mr. August has hidden something valuable that he bequeathed to Gus: The Fiery Eye. Where else should he have hidden it than in a plaster bust, which also bears the name August. When the name August plays such an important role in this family.

Mabel: Yeah, then lets hurry!

When the four arrived at the Shack, they walked into the shop, Wendy was still sitting at the counter and Stan was reading a newspaper next to Wendy. The four did not pay attention to Wendy and Stan and ran directly to the table with the busts.

Dipper: Some are missing! Among them August of Poland! He's gone!

Karim: Stan! Where are the other busts?

Stan: Where are they supposed to be!? I sold them for $5. People like to put something like this in the garden.

Karim: You didn't by chance, I mean, you didn't happen by chance, I mean, did you write down the names and addresses of the buyers?

Stan: The names? Dear heaven, why would I? People bought her head and drove off with it.

Dipper: Can you tell us anything about the people. Especially about those who bought August from Poland.

Stan heard the phone ring in the living room, rolled his eyes and put his newspaper away.

Stan: Listen kid! Who on earth cares? Sorry, I can't tell you anything, I have to go to the phone.

Stan got up and went into the living room to pick up the phone.

Mabel: What now? If King August guards luck for Gus, whatever that may be. He will continue to guard it, but not for Gus.

Gus: At least you tried. Your Uncle couldn't know which meaning these plaster heads have for me.

Dipper: We could ask Ford, maybe he can help us with the everything.

Karim: Absolutely not, Ford is just waiting for me to finally ask him for help. Maybe we really can't find the heads anymore, but I won't admit defeat yet. We simply have to start our investigations. continue. With no Ford.

Dipper: Alright, alright, it was just a suggestion.

Why didn't Karim want to work with Ford? Dipper thought, Stan had told that Karim and Ford often had arguments with each other about the mysteries of Gravity Falls. Karim had probably to much pride to ask Ford for help.

Mabel: And how do we proceed?

Wendy had been listening the whole time and looked over at Karim bored.

Wendy: How about the telephone avalanche?

Dipper: Huh?

Mabel: The what and the who?

Karim: Good idea, Wendy!

Gus: Telephone avalanche? Do you work together with the telephone company?

Wendy: Not directly. Think about it: Who pays the most attention to what's going on in a neighborhood? For example, if a neighbor puts a weird plaster bust in the garden?

Gus: I don`t know.

Karim: The children, of course. Children are everywhere and don't stand out, but they get everything what's going on.

Wendy: There's just one catch: how do you connect with as many children as possible throughout the city? Everyone is helpful, but if they don't know what you want, they can't help.

Dipper: How do you do that? How do you get in touch?

Wendy: That's what the telephone avalanche is for. It was Karim's idea. Each of us has friends and acquaintances and they in turn have friends.

Karim: Yes. And if we want to find out something, each of us calls 5 friends and tells them what we want to know and they also call 5 friends.

Wendy: And again. And so, in a short time, our question spreads all over the city.

Mabel: If each of you calls 5 friends, that makes 15. And if each of them calls 5 again, that's already 75. And then 300 and something and then well over a thousand. Are you going to make a phone call right now, Karim?

Dipper: Since when are you so good at math?

Mabel: I`m lazy not dumb, Dipper.

Karim: It is too early. Now most of the children are still outside playing. We must wait until after dinner.

Dipper: Karim, what do you think is in the bust?

Karim: Mr. Dwiggins the lawyer said something about a Fiery Eye.

Mabel: But what is that?

Karim: It's small, otherwise it couldn't be stuck in a plaster bust. If you bear in mind with which care Mr. August hid it, combined with the fact that someone gives only names to very famous gemstones, think of the "Star of India" or "Koh-i-Noor", then one must conclude that the Fiery Eye is a jewel.

Gus: A jewel?

Karim: A jewel that Mr. August brought back from Spellstorm many years ago. And this stone was also the reason why Mr. August later lived in such seclusion.

Dipper: Pssst, there comes a customer.

When the four saw what kind of customer just entered the shop, all four of them stopped their hearts. It was a man with elegant clothes and three tattooed dots on his forehead. He went directly to the children in his hand was a walking stick.

Rhandur: Please, excuse me. These interesting busts.

Karim: Yeah, sir?

Rhandur: Do you have more of these figures?

Karim: More?

Rhandur: Yes, others. If so, I would like to take a look at them. I want something very unique, you know? Not exactly George Washington or Benjamin Franklin.

Karim: That's all of them. The others are sold.

Rhandur: Um, so there were more of them? And the names, boy?

Karim: Um, I don't know exactly, um, weird names. Homer and something, and uh, uh, August from..., oh, I don`t know.

Rhandur: August? Yeah, I think I would like the bust of August. For my garden. You say the bust is sold?

Mabel: Yup, yesterday.

Rhandur: And the buyer? What's his name? I want to buy the bust from him again.

Dipper: We don`t write down addresses. But sometimes people give things back. If the purchase is returned, you can have it. Leave me your name and address.

Rhandur: Good idea. Here, my card. I pay 100 dollar.

Karim: We will call you.

Rhandur: Yes, you will. Wait, there's paper lying around here, I don't like that. I love cleanliness.

When Rhandur said this, he took out a long blade from his supposed walking stick and picked up the paper quickly and threateningly, the four were frightened and took a few steps back, Wendy looked unsettled at the man from the cash register.

Gus: There is a blade in the stick!

Rhandur: Exactly! You will call me. Don't forget it, otherwise um...

Rhandur laughed and ran out of the shop, the children and Wendy heard a car driving away in the distance. Wendy now walked away from the cash register and joined the four as well.

Wendy: Damn, that was intense.

Mabel: Did you see that? There is a blade hidden in his walking stick! wanted to threaten us.

Dipper: He showed us the blade hidden in the stick to tell us that he can get damn angry.

Wendy: He is not to be joked with. I thought he wanted to stab you, Karim.

Gus: What's on the card, Karim? What's the man's name?

Karim: It says: Rama Sidri Rhandur, Plesha, Spellstorm.

Mabel: Spellstorm?

Gus: I think I've seen the man before. That was a long time ago. I remember a man visiting my father. I can also be wrong.

Dipper: He has 3 dots on his forehead. That could be a box sign.

Karim: He knew. Maybe he stole the copy from lawyer Dwiggins.

Gus: But he wore no sunglasses and no black beard.

Dipper: He may have instructed others to ambush Dwiggens. In any case, he knew that August was something special.

Karim: After all, I have his address. That's also on the card. He lives in a motel outside of Gravity Falls.

Mabel: I am in favour of dropping the matter. If Rhandur belongs to a sect of fanatics, it can become dangerous. I once read about members of a tribal group who were looking for a lost Relic. They just looked at you and then you already had a knife in the Belly. Why don't we just go out for ice cream or go to the cemetery there is much more fun.

Karim: So far, we can only suspect such a thing, Mabel.

Dipper: I could go to the library and find out something about the Fiery Eye and Plesha.

Karim: Good idea, see you later.

Dipper: Later!

Wendy: Wait! I`m coming with you, Dipper!

Both walked out of the shop and set off.

Gus: I don't know. It is too dangerous. Mabel is right. We should give up. I don't want you to risk your life for me.

Mabel: Great idea.

Gus: Then I'd rather stay poor. I'll get through somehow.

Karim: We have just started, Number 2. We have a few facts to consider.

Mabel: Facts? What are you talking about?

Karim: I suspect that Mr. Dwiggins locked himself in the closet.

Gus: Himself? Why would he have done that?

Karim: I don't know, that's still unclear, like everything.

Mabel: Why do you think that? Dwiggins was trapped.

Karim: Superficial evidence that should mislead us. Think about it, Mabel, use your mind! Dwiggins said he had been in the closet for hours.

Mabel: Right...

Karim: What would a man do in this situation?

Gus: Yeah, he would first put the glasses back on or he would take them off. But he wouldn't hang them on his ear for 2 hours.

Mabel: Hm, could be.

Karim: Then there was something else. I noticed that the desk top in his office was cold, but the chair was warm.

Gus: He must have been sitting on it shortly before.

Karim: That's right, Gus. Dwiggins had seen how we came. He knocked over the chair, crawled into the closet, hung the glasses to his ear and called for help.

Mabel: Why would he do that?

Karim: To fool us. To make us believe that the copy of the letter had been stolen. And that may not have been the case at all.

Mabel: So you mean the man with the sunglasses and the black beard didn't exist?

Karim: Probably not. I think Mr. Rhandur bought the copy of Mr. Dwiggin's letter. Dwiggins, of course, was not allowed to sell and that's why he tried to fool us.

Gus: That sounds logical and would also explain why came here. He deciphered the meaning of the message so he came here.

Her thoughts were interrupted by the phone ringing again in the living room, Karim went into the living room and made the other two wait. He picked up the house phone that was lying on the table.

Karim: Yeah, hello?

Mrs. Peterson: Hello? This is . I live here in Gravity Falls. I'm sorry, but I have a complaint. Yesterday I got 2 plaster busts as garden sculptures at your Shack bought.

Karim: Yeah?

Mrs. Peterson: Well, I noticed that the busts do not tolerate water and that is not good of course. After all, it rains from time to time. I want to give them back.

Karim: We will refund you, Mrs. Peterson. May I ask what Busts you bought?

Mrs. Peterson: I don't know exactly. But I think one is called August or Augustus something like that.

Karim: We are coming, Mrs. Peterson! Please, give me the exact address!
