Author's Notes: I dedicate this Fanfiction to the now Account Deleted Mirriem, one of the truest friends who a person could hope to have, whose friendship and whose writing are among the largest reasons I'm the person and the writer I am today.
I also give a very special thank you to Cori Shadowfang, for assisting me in developing this idea in our in depth Private Message conversations about KINGDOM HEARTS, and all kinds of literary art, since I beat KINGDOM HEARTS: The Kye Arc, and KINGDOM HEARTS: DARK ROAD.
For the purposes of this Fanfiction, all of KINGDOM HEARTS is considered canon.
As with my other Fanfictions, I highly recommend you listen to the same Soundtrack pieces or MP3s as I am when I'm writing each scene to get the full mood of each scene. The music for the Prologue is, 'Star Ocean Forever,' from STAR OCEAN: THE SECOND STORY. This piece can be found on Zophar's Domain.
Sora walked with Donald, Goofy, Jiminy Cricket, Rapunzel, and Eugene Fitzherbert, who he'd previously known as Flynn Rider, in the direction of the hanging vines that kept the presence of this vale from even being discerned by that many people.
The delighted and wondering awe that he'd seen on Rapunzel's face the first time all six of them had traversed this distance together was replaced by more of the understanding delight Sora saw each time he looked in the mirror. But even though much of what she'd once believed she could hold true and cherished had just recently proven as insubstantial as her purchase on the battle chipped portions of the tower she'd once believed she could call home now were, the joyous delight in her face was no less unmitigated, and unrestrained, as Sora's own was at times like this.
The thought of what they'd needed to do to the place that Rapunzel had used to believe was her home, without the ability to repair it as they had Destiny Islands, caused Sora to suppress the urge to wince.
Goofy, however, must have seen something in Sora's face, posture, or eyes, because he queried, "Have ya' tested your healing hair on things other than living beings?"
Rapunzel appeared as once more perceptive as Goofy's attitude belied, however, because she gave Sora an assuring and confidently reassuring smile of her own.
"Yes, and it didn't work when I did it with my hair, but you don't need to feel bad my own world I first believed I knew is in worse shape than yours.
"A home isn't a place of stone and wood for me anymore than it is for you these days, no matter what form it's in.
"Wherever I have a warm place to share with others, that's my home as much as yours.
"You can just worry about yourselves."
"If you couldn't heal anything not alive then, I see no reason to believe you can now," Donald spoke in a contemplative tone.
"But that still leaves the question of other ways your incantations are now versatile, that they weren't when you healed with your hair.
"Your powers use Sunlight, so one thing that could merit experimenting with is whether you can merge your tears with a rainbow, or dew on flowers, and increase their range that way."
Rapunzel's brow furrowed in thought for a small amount of seconds, but then she sighed in disappointment.
"I doubt it," she answered.
"You saw what happened when my hair was cut.
"When the magic is separated from me, it stops working.
"My tears separate from me without losing their abilities, but due to how tears work, I assume they follow a similar principle, and they can't heal once they dry, or if they become too intermingled with other water, or anything similar."
Donald fished in his pocket, and removed a small beaker, the kind they used to carry samples of plants, and other materials they at times foraged, for safekeeping.
"I have a lot of years of experience with many fields of magic, so if I have the time, I'll be the judge of that.
"Can you time the incantation to holding your eyes open long enough for them to water?"
Rapunzel gave an overjoyed smile.
"I don't know if I can, but I'd love to try!" she cried eagerly.
"Then I can at least try to watch over you as you attempt to realize your own dreams."
Eugene gave her an encouraging grin, and Rapunzel nodded in thanks.
She lowered her face a little towards Donald, and waited for him to spin the stopper out of the vial, and hold it up to her left eye.
Then she waited, keeping herself from blinking until her eyes must have begun feeling the strain, and she began the incantation.
"Heal what has been hurt," she sang. "Change the Fates' design."
Sora wondered if that part of the cantrip was meant literally, but they had even less time to stick around and attempt to find out this time around, than during his previous journeys.
And to find out might require endangering the world order, and that would drag Rapunzel right back down into the dark tide she'd just surfaced from.
Liquid was burgeoning in Rapunzel's eyes, as they sought alternatives to blocking out the glare of the real Sun bathing this world in warmth.
"Save what has been lost. Bring back what once was mine."
Rapunzel blinked, and small drops of the tears in her left eye fell into the vial.
Donald replaced the stopper with smooth practice.
Sora started as Donald held it out to him, unsure why.
"Why are you giving this to me?" he queried. "I've learned a lot about how magic works myself, but I'm still not the accomplished wizard here."
"True as ya' say, but you're the one the Fates have designs for," Goofy said before Donald could respond.
Rapunzel's eyes widened, and then she frowned in protective worry.
So Sora just took the vial from Donald and pocketed it in his left pants pocket.
Then he grinned at Rapunzel, falling back into a familiar posture of unconcernedly relaxed ease and crossing his hands behind his head.
"On your own end, you don't need to worry," he spoke with reassuring and confident cheer.
"We shouldn't need to change any of destiny's artifices."
