Level 0 of the anomaly

D.H.O.R.K.S. Hq sent us in to investigate this portal created by a machine they had purchased from the Async foundation. There was supposed to be a pre-established observation site not more than a ten-minute walk in. It's been four hours since we crossed the threshold, three hours since we lost radio contact, and another four since I was separated from the group by very mysterious circumstances. I thought I was alone. I was wrong. If anyone finds this note beware there's more than dead air in this place. I advise you find the means to defend yourself. God have mercy.
- Dr Landau
Mason shakily placed the bloodstained note in his own notebook and looked back at what remained of the doctor. A corpse covered in black fungus clutching at a revolver. Judging from the wounds and the trail of black spots it was safe to say he was mauled by some kind of dog and bled to death. It didn't make sense though. Fungus takes at least two days to start growing and he knew it hadn't been even a full 24 hours yet.
Mason made sure to ready some disinfectant wipes and started to search for supplies. The doctor wouldn't need them anymore. He started by prying the revolver from Landau's hand and took the wristwatch hidden just under his labcoat sleeve. The watch was on timer mode and read 16:42:13. Seeing the display suddenly forced mason to acknowledge how tired he was. Checking the revolver there was only one bullet left. How lucky.
The rest of the equipment were things mason already had but wouldn't hurt to have backups. First aid kit, radio, six more bullets, no water or food however. He started to clean his finds with the disinfectant and made sure to replace the spent casings in the revolvers cylinder with live rounds. They weren't supposed to be in here for this long anyway and the only reason the doctor had a revolver and two armed escorts with the research team was because he was a paranoid git although he turned out to be right.
'Fucking demon hunters' of all the people that could have obtained this device to a new frontier and it had to be a bunch of fanatical loonies.
Fanatical but not false he thought to himself taking one last look at the doctor before continuing forward through the endless yellow corridors of this hellish maze. He had heard the thing that had most likely killed the doctor himself, but it was far off, and he fortunately hadn't sighted it. The awful howling was enough to chill him to his bones. He Had also been shown firsthand proof of hells minions in the form of security tapes recorded back when D.H.O.R.K.S. first headquarters came under siege, but he doubted that they came from whatever place this was. Whatever did this was not the same beasts from the orientation video, but it was still dangerous, nonetheless.
Time dragged on. The harsh hum of the florescent lights and his own footsteps upon the damp carpet the only sounds to remind him he wasn't deaf. It was turning out to be the worst internship ever. He was going to university majoring in ecology which is why Dr Landau reached out to him. He now knew why he was the only one to accept his offer. Probably should have realized it was going to be a shitshow when the name of the company is literally dorks. But the way the doctor talked about the project seemed like a sure thing. Going out to explore an entirely new ecosystem and via a portal just like stargate! Perhaps he was the bigger dork for even entertaining the thought that this would be a good way to further his academic career. He was the only intern they ever hired and he doubted there would ever be someone stupid enough to make the same mistake he did. The last time he had seen another living thing he was following Dr Landau and a guard around a corner. As he had rounded it the doctor and agent 4 was nowhere to be seen. Just a dead end. Looking back for agents 3 and 5 yielded the same result. Then facing forward once more the landscape had changed into more hallways starting him on this lovely stroll.
Corridor after corridor, corner after corner, left right and center. It went on for hours, but he dared not stop for rest. Eventually he came across something new. The Guide rope! It could lead him back to the KV31 and to home. He looked at the arrow marked on the rope and started following it.
Eventually it led to the spot he instantly recognized as the threshold. Only problem was that the wall that was supposed to have an opening in it looked like any other wall down here. He started hitting his head against it in frustration when suddenly he remembered the radio.
He turned it on and started pleading into the device, "agent one, shit anybody? id really fucking appreciate if you could open the door right now! The doctors dead and I haven't seen anyone for a good minute! There's something down here with us!"
The static he received in return wasn't very reassuring. In fact, it made him feel even more desperate.
He started pounding on the wall "c'mon god dammit open up!"
Suddenly he heard it. The blood curdling howl of the creature. He turned around to see it, a mass of writhing cable like appendages that seemed to be masquerading as a man. It was at least 30 yards out at the end of this main hallway. The only room in this maze that had this depth amazingly enough. It was running at him in a dead sprint. Back to the wall He pulled the revolver and aimed it at the creature with shaky hands. First shot missed and the creature advanced closer, second shot missed and then the third. Now it was practically upon him its shriek piercing his eardrums. He readied himself to take his final shot When suddenly he fell backwards into the wall, and all was silent.
He couldn't see nor did he care at the moment. Right now, he was just thankful to still be breathing. So instead, he just cradled the revolver to his chest and let himself rest.
