Lucy looked out of her transport's window and stared out into space. The vast number of stars in space and Earth crests her view. It was a beautiful sight. Glittering starlight in the inky black of the universe with the beautiful blue planet being the center of attention. When she first saw it, it made her think of how insignificant she was compared to the vast universe. Just a tiny speck in the grand scheme of the creation. A braindance didn't really convey that feeling. Despite how real it could seem it paled in comparison to the real thing.
It had been a couple months.
A couple months since Arasaka tower, Adam Smasher, everything.
She knew David wouldn't want her to regret a thing. After all, he probably didn't regret a second even when he faced Smasher. He was the reason she was here and with enough eddies to live comfortably for the rest of her life.
But she couldn't help but think about the what-if's. Like what if she'd just told him about what she found in that data. Maybe then David wouldn't have used that cyber skeleton. Maybe she wouldn't have gotten caught by Faraday. Maybe she could have convinced him to tone down on the chrome.
Maybe….. Maybe, he'd still be here with her.
The transport stopped at her destination and Lucy stepped out of it. The transport had brought her to a hotel. A pretty big one.
Lucy stepped inside the building and removed her helmet. She didn't need the aid of her space suit to breathe inside a pressurized building such as this one. She got out of her space suit and handed it to an attendant, and received a locker ticket in exchange so that she could get back her space suit once her visit here is over.
Lucy let her hair loose as she entered the main lobby and walked over to the counter.
"Hello there. Can you please lead me to Mr. Faruko's room? I have an appointment with him." Lucy said to the lady attendant on the other side of the counter.
"Oh, please wait a minute, miss." The attendant replied before calling someone. And after a little while of conversation, most likely informing their guest about her visit, The attendant led her to room number 13.9.22.
Lucy thanked the attendant before she left. After which Lucy took a deep breath and rang the bell, announcing her presence.
Moments later the door opened, revealing the very familiar figure of her old friend.
"Hey, Falco." Lucy said with a smile.
"Hello, Luce. Glad you came." Falco cheerfully greeted her. said.
Lucy smiled at this. Other than her, Falco was the only member of the crew who survived that night. Both of them have been laying low ever since that incident. They haven't been able to stay much in contact because of that. Especially after she left.
"Well, I can say the same for you. Wasn't expecting you to move here too." Lucy said as she welcomed herself in the two bedroom suite Falco was staying at.
"Well, I'm not here permanently. Got some business to take care of back at that piece of rock. Just came for a visit." Falco replied.
Lucy seated herself on an armchair in the living room and took a note of the whole suite. There were two doors on the wall in front of her and another door on the wall behind her. One these three must lead to the bathroom, while the other two must lead to the bedrooms.
Falco served her a drink before taking a seat on the armchair in front of Lucy.
"So, how are you holding up?" Falco asked.
"To be honest, not quite well." Lucy replied.
Falco grimaced as he saw Lucy's smile vanish from her face. That night at Arasaka Tower had been hard on both of them. But it was way worse for Lucy. He had lost his friends that night. But Lucy had also lost David. The loss of a loved one is never easy.
"Anyway, how about you? What have you been upto?" Lucy suddenly asked, snapping him out of his thoughts.
"Well, nothing too much lately. Still have some good amount of eddies from that gig. But I still drive around sometimes. But I don't take jobs from fixers anymore." Falco replied.
"Uh huh." Came Lucy's reply before she sipped on her drink.
"That reminds me, there's someone with me whom you might wanna meet." Falco suddenly said.
(A/N:- Play "I really want to stay at your house" For better experience)
Before Lucy could say anything or protest, Falco had left, telling her to wait. Lucy finished her drink and got up from her seat to put the glass away.
"Falco, I swear if this isn't some actually important thing, then I'm gonna shave your mustache off for waking me up like that."
Lucy heard a male voice speak. The voice sounded oddly familiar to her. She immediately turned around and what she saw made her breath hitch as she dropped the glass.
There, standing near the door leading to the other bedroom, was David. He looked so different from the last time she saw him. He was shorter. Barely a few inches taller than her and was a lot scrawnier. He was shirtless, revealing a nasty scar on his chest.
The sound of the glass dropping and breaking made him snapp his head towards Lucy's direction. His eyes widened when he saw the former netrunner.
"Lucy…. Lucy!" David gapped as he stepped inside the room. His expression showed how happy he was to see her.
Behind him, Falco could be seen leaning against the door frame.
"David…." Lucy gasped. But-but, how could this be possible? David had died. Brutally flatlined by Adam Smasher. Forcibly taken away from her by that monster.
"Is-is this r-really you? Please, please don't tell me that I'm hallucinating or, or this is some fucking practical joke. Because if it is Falco, then I swear… " Lucy said.
"Lucy. It is me." David said, cutting her off in the middle of her speech.
David tried to approach her when suddenly Lucy raised her hand, making him stop.
"Tell me something that only David and I will know." Lucy said. Her voice trembled with each word. She, at this moment, felt like a dam on the verge of collapsing.
"On our first meeting I caught you pickpocketing and then helped you with the job." David said.
"I had already told the crew about that incident. Tell me something more private." Lucy growled.
"We had our first kiss on the night of a full moon. We were on the roof top of your apartment and I had promised you there that I would take you to the moon." David desperately said.
Lucy stood stunned at the confession. And then she dashed towards David and hugged him as tightly as she could. She now knew that it wasn't any hallucination. It wasn't some dream or some imposter. It truly was David. Her David. He was back. Back with her.
She hadn't realized when she began crying but she didn't care. Her hug on him tightened as she listened to his heartbeat, reassuring herself every moment that he was here.
"Hey, there, there Luce. I'm here now. I'm here. No need to be sad anymore." David soothed her as he wrapped his arms around her, holding her into a comforting embrace.
"Don't you ever fucking dare to do that you fucking gonk." Lucy said, her voice strained as she held herself back from crying.
"I won't. I promise." David said and planted a kiss on her head.
Lucy looked up. Tears were still coming out of her eyes, but she was smiling. She was staring right into David's eyes and vice versa. And the two lovers went in for a kiss. Lucy felt a spark run through her as her lips met with David's.
"But how? How did you survive smasher?" Lucy asked after pulling away from David.
David was going to say something, but Falco suddenly interrupted. "That's well, my handy work." The getaway driver said, joining the conversation.
"Found him in a trauma team truck with a hole in the chest. Had to pull some favors to cover up the whole thing after rescuing him. Took him to an old ripper friend of mine. Got his injuries patched up and some of his chromes removed. Anything and everything that he won't need for a long time. And by long time I mean forever." Falco said.
David smiled sheepishly at the brief glare Falco gave him.
"Had to lay low for a while after that and wasn't able to contact you Luce. So sorry for keeping the news from you." Falco added.
Lucy would have been really mad at Falco for not telling her sooner, but at the present moment, she was too happy to show any hostility.
"Uhh, I think I should leave you two alone. You guys got some catching up to do. And I got some sightseeing to do. If you two want to get a bit extra passionate, then please use David's bedroom. See ya." Falco said and left the room, leaving the couple alone.
David had a smile on his face as he heard Falco's words. He shook his head and then looked back at Lucy, who once again had decided upon leaning her head against his chest.
"I can't express how happy I am David." Lucy said.
"Me neither." David replied as he hugged her more tightly. "I really want to stay with you."
"Me too." Lucy smiled.
The couple chuckled and enjoyed the moment between them. While happy ending might be scarce, almost nonexistent, in Night city, for it was the wrong place and people such as them were also wrong people, it appears fate had different plans this time.
The Night city may have brought down the legend, The Sandavistan from Santo. But they can never take David Ramirez away from her. The legend may have been dead, but David was here. With her. For forever.
"I love you." Lucy said.
"I love you too." David said.
And they leaned in for another kiss.
AUTHOR'S NOTE :- Hey guys. Commander Alfa here. Hope you liked this little one shot that I made.
Cyberpunk Edgerunners is probably one of the best Animes I've ever watched. I really liked the whole show. It truly is incredible.
While some people are content with the ending, and some others want a season 2, I am more of a middle guy.
I'm rather fine with the ending. It conveys the harsh truth of the world of Cyberpunk. And I like it. But I also wouldn't mind a Season 2. Especially if they bring back David and reunite her with Lucy.
But since the heartbreak I felt from watching this show was too much for me, I decided to write down this one shot while listening to "I really want to stay at your house" on repeat.
I hope you guys enjoyed it. I'll be making some more content on Cyberpunk Edgerunners in future.
By the way, here's another fan-made alternate ending. This ending is the true ending in my head Canon.
