Handcuffs and people following the two Kiras around-To make sure they're watched.
L and Light were residing in the headquarters L had built and were currently in handcuffs with each other.
Light could tell something was up with L.
L wasn't his usual self. He wasn't sitting in one of his usual crouched positions. He was sitting like a normal human being. He barely touched his coffee which didn't have a single cube of sugar in it. In fact, the detective refused to eat any sweets at all. To top it all off, he was unbelievably quiet.
"Hey, L!" Light said as he snapped his fingers in L's face. "Are you okay?"
It took a while for L to respond. "Huh? Oh, it's you, Light. I guess I'm alright,"
But L simply went back to his abnormal, quiet behavior.
"Hey! Hey, L! I'M KIRA!"
L was momentarily distracted. "WHAT?!"
Light laughed. "Now that I have your attention-What's wrong with you?"
L stared in Light's face. "I don't want to talk about it."
Watari walked in just then. He noticed L's plight and was immediately concerned.
"Ryuzaki. May I borrow Light for a moment? You can watch us on the monitors,"
L barely paid attention. "Sure. Whatever you want."
Wartari removed the cuffs and lead Light went to the entrance of the building.
"Your father and the rest should be here soon, but this can't wait. You do know what day it is, soon, don't you, Light?"
"Halloween," Light answered. "But I don't see what this has to do with Ruyzaki. I mean, there's more candy to go around, so he should enjoy that. Is that why he's been all mopey? Because he's too busy with the Kira case to celebrate?"
"Unfortunately, yes. In fact, Halloween is very special to L. It's his birthday!"
"'His BIRTHDAY'?!" Light repeated.
"Yes. I was hoping you could help me help him," Wartari begged.
Then the rest of the detectives, Soichiro, Matsuda, Aizawa, and Mogi walked in just then.
"We heard everything," Soichiro told Light and Watari.
"Getting candy must be really fun for L, right?" Matsuda piped up.
"Yes, it's quite fitting, I must admit," Aizawa added.
"The problem is that where L is from there's trick-or-treating. You have to buy the candy here. And while though there's street parties here, they just don't have that over, well, there." Watari explained.
"Where's there?" Matsuda asked.
Everyone facepalmed.
"Wartari would NEVER give out that information. Right, Watari?" Light asked.
"Exactly," said Watari. "But I think we could fly him over there to meet some old friends of his."
L appeared at the entrance to an open elevator with a frown on his face.
"Watari. We shouldn't put them in danger," L gently argued. "No one else can go with us for starters."
"Light must go wherever you go, I remind you. Besides, they'll be in costumes anyhow."
L grinned. "Okay, but Light will be blindfolded halfway there and until we're inside the building."
"I'm confused," Matsuda said as he held his head.
L was elated. "I'll go pack right now! You follow me, Light. We both need to pack."
"Good! I'm glad you're finally back to normal!" Light said.
"Me, too!" L beamed.

Misa went down from her room to the monitors and was dressed in pink bunny ears and a pink outfit. Matsuda was there to pick her up.
"LIGHT! I can't believe you're going with Ryuzaki when you're supposed to be spending Halloween with ME!" she whined.
"Misa, I'm kinda attached to Ryuzaki at the moment," Light reminded.
Misa blinked. "OH, RIGHT!"
"Maybe Light could hold my hand," L suggested with a laugh.
"EW!" Misa yelled. "But if that's the case, I'll allow it."
"I'm going to Shibuya tonight!" Matsuda announced to Misa. "I have to watch you, ya know."
"Whatever," Misa said.
With that, Misa and Matsuda left for overtime at Misa's modeling job.
"I can imagine a lot of other costumes that involve using handcuffs, though," said Light with a head shake.
"Me, too, but they're all annoying," L said.
The rest of the detectives walked in.
"None of my family is going," Mogi said.
"I bought my daughter candy since we're not going to the Shibuya block party tonight," Aizawa said.
"My daughter is also not going," Soichiro said as well.
Light got up from the chair he was sitting in. "But Sayu is a teenager, Dad. She's almost an adult."
"She's still a young lady," Soichiro argued. "'Lady' being the word, here."
"How about I go with her? You know, after I'm done trick-or-treating with L?"
Soichiro thought before saying,' "Alright. But she's not wearing anything risque. And no alcohol!"
Watari approached them.
"Ready to go?" L asked Light.
"Do I have a choice?" Light complained he rolled his eyes.
"Nope!"
A thought came to Light's head as they were leaving.
"Hey, L. Don't you want a birthday present?"
"I just want candy!" L admitted.
And so, they set out for the secret place that L missed.

L was lead to a private jet on top of the roof.
He planned on driving it himself as Light put on a blindfold.
Hours later they arrived in a building and as far as Light could tell with his ears, it was surrounded by children at play.
Light was directed to a room where her sat in a chair. He heard whispers coming from the other room. Finally, they removed his blindfold.
Light saw Watari and L, but he also saw three others who just walked in.
Three children.
They were dressed as a scarecrow, a giant candy bar and a wizard.
L and Watari were also dressed. Watari as a teacher and L as a police officer of all things.
L was actually in a Japanese detective suit to be correct.
"So you don't know which country we're in," L explained.
"Should we introduce them?" Watari said to L.
"May as well. But not their names. Not even nicknames," and then, "Light, this is N (he pointed to the scarecrow), M (the candy bar), and Double M (the wizard),"
N twirled a strand of hair and blissfully looked into another direction.
M rudely asked, "Who is this guy? Why is he here?"
Double M stepped in. "M! Don't act like that! He's a guest."
Then, "You can call me 'DM' Nice to meet ya!" he said as he shook Light's hand.
"Likewise," said Light as he shook his hand back.
"What is he doing here?" N asked, suddenly aware.
L looked at Light for confirmation.
Light nodded.
"This is Light. He's suspected of being Kira," Light said.
N's eyes bugged out.
M cracked his knuckles.
DM's jaw dropped a LOT.
"Why did you bring him here?!" M asked in anger.
"Yeah, he could seriously hurt us or worse!" DM added.
"It's obvious L let him come along for a reason," N said. "Right, L?"
L explained. "He's here because he's so dangerous he can't be left alone. But I wanted to come anyhow."
"Why?" asked DM.
"Well, to be honest, it's Halloween," L said.
"Oh! So, that's why you let him near us! We're in costumes!" DM said.
"And it's also my birthday," L admitted.
ALL the children stared at L then.
"'Your birthday'?!" M repeated.
"Should we make or buy you presents?" N asked.
"I just want some candy!" L said. "Besides. I also traveled here to see you three. I missed you all!"
N whispered to M and DM. Then N whispered to Light and Watari.
"Okay," said N. "We're ready for trick-or-treating!"
L was about to put Light's blindfold on again but then realized something.
"Light. You need a costume!"
"Hmm. How about we trade costumes?" Light suggested.
"But I don't have another costume," L pointed out.
"Find me a white shirt and a marker."

L, Light and the rest made their way outside and walked from house to house.
L had on a white shirt with "Birthday Boy!" in black marker. L got double the candy because of it.
Soon, they had gotten their bags full of candy.
They turned around and headed back to the secret building.
A bigger surprise awaited L there.
"We have your present!" Light said.
Everyone dumped all their candy out in a big pile.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY, L!" they all said.
L grinned. "Thanks so much!"
Soon, it was time to return to Japan.
"Can I go?!" DM begged. "Japan has TONS of cool video games!"
"We won't have time for games, but we still have time for the block party. And ALL of you can come!" L said.
The children cheered.
And so, they went to Japan, this time with three tagalongs.

Shibuya was indeed one big party. Except that most of the people were in cosplay, not normal costumes.
"Is everyone here drinking?* asked DM.
"Can I drink?" asked M.
"NO," L said sternly.
"They're dressed as anime characters, aren't they?" N asked. "How come we aren't?"
"Because we already have costumes over from. Well. Where you three live," L explained.
Light turned to L. "I'm going to find my sister!"
"I have to go with you," L said.
Light rolled his eyes and held L's hand.
They ran into Misa and Matsuda instead.
Matsuda was dressed as a pumpkin man, now. He had purple robes and a pumpkin head.
"Misa picked this out for me!" he told Light. "Neither of us wanted to be anime characters this year."
"I didn't know you were a professional cop, Light!" Misa said.
"Me, too!" said Matsuda. "I didn't know, either!"
Light wanted to facepalm, but managed to hold back.
"No, Misa. No Matsuda. It's just a costume," he told her. Then he whispered to Matsuda so Misa couldn't hear. "Where's my sister?"
Matsuda whispered Sayu's location and Light left.
Sayu was dressed as a princess. She had on a lavender gown with a matching hat with lace trailing on it.
"Hey, Light! Dad can't complain about this, can he, huh?"
"Let's hope he doesn't," Light said.
"So, who is this and why are you holding his hand?" Says giggled and pointed at L.
"I can't tell you why, but. This is a friend of mine who's birthday is it today. Give him some candy, please?" Light asked.
"A birthday on Halloween?! Wow! How lucky can you get! I'll give him ALL the candy I have! Dad bought me a LOT since his original plan was for me to stay at home," Sayu explained.
"Spend the rest of the night with me and my friends, okay? I have to tell Dad if you don't," Light said as a warning.
"O-K,"
Sayu turned to L.
"Nice to meet you. Um."
"Ryuzaki is fine," said L. "And I'm from a country where giving out names is bad luck, but I don't mind you knowing my name."
"Oh. Okay. Well, congrats on your double special day, Ryuzaki! Here's some candy!"
Light whispered in Sayu's ear.
"I'll give you kids and you also, Mister, some candy, since you gave away your. Your. How are they related to you?"
"Well, I wouldn't say they're my father and my kids, but. They're LIKE my father and kids. My dad and three, wonderful kids!"
Watari and DM hugged L just then. N and M were reluctant, but DM pulled him onto the hug.
"Happy Halloween!" said Watari and the three children at once.
"And a Happy birthday to you, too!" said Light.
L smiled. It was indeed a perfect Halloween and birthday after all.
