Holy Double Feature Batman!
I know Robin, two chapters in one day.
It was eight months after my meeting with Yumi and four months since I acquired Stark Ind. and started working out a lot and three months since I started truly building and coding things and two months since I started dating my wonderful girlfriend and one month since I was requested to go to UA for a proper test of my placement since Aldara changed my test scores to be the lowest and now here I was, two months before the entrance exam to see where my intelligence was placed compared to everyone else.
"Come on, let's go so we can take the tests," Melissa said, pulling my arm.
"Sorry, I'm just amazed that I'm here at UA," I said, interlocking my fingers with hers.
"I know, just think, we'll be going to class here in three months give or take," she said.
"Alright love birds, you'll be in two different rooms with different people watching you so there isn't any cheating," Yumi said behind us causing us to jump in fright.
"How did you sneak up on us?" I asked.
"Just because I'm training you to do what I do and to notice things doesn't mean you'll be at my level immediately," she said, smirking.
"Should I add early warning systems to the suit?" Tony asked, sarcastically.
"I will find a way to shut you down," I threatened.
"Phones," Yumi said, holding her hand out. Mel and I put our phones in her hand as she opened a door. "Melissa, you'll be in here with me. Izumi, you'll be in the next room over and don't feel threatened, just be safe," she said, forcing a smile before walking in after Melissa.
I took a gulp before I walked down to the next door and opened it.
"Ah, you must be Miss Midoriya," a high pitched cheery voice said.
"Um, yes," I said, looking to see a small white stoat(?).
"Pleasure to meet you, am I a mouse, a dog, a bear? Doesn't matter, all that does is I'm the principal," he said, smiling.
"Wait, you're Principal Nezu?" I asked. "Also, aren't you a stoat?"
"Yes, to both of your questions," he said, his smile going a little wild. "Let's get your test started," he added, gesturing to the desks. I sat at the one right in front of him. "There is Math, Japanese, English, History, Science, and General Knowledge along with an extra section that is just open ended questions to figure out your aptitude and intuition," he explained, setting down one of many packets of papers he had next to him. "You have two hours for each packet and after you are done I will give you some time to rest your mind before giving you the next. After four hours we will give both you and Miss Shield a lunch break and you will take the rest of the tests after that," he added. "You may start when ready," he said, handing me three pencils.
I got to work on the first one which was Math. After roughly an hour and a half I got to the end of the packet. I quickly went through and double checked my answers before setting it down along with my pencil. I looked up and Nezu took the packet and told me to walk around before handing me the next one which was History. It included both normal history as well as a section on the history of heroes in Japan. I took a little longer than the last one with this packet as there were more questions and a small essay at the end. When I was done I did the same thing as the last time and Nezu collected my packet again. I went to the lunch room and met up with Melissa.
"So, who's giving you your test?" she asked, smirking as I sat down next to her with a bowl of ramen in front of me.
"Principal Nezu," I said, looking at her to see her eating a burger and fries. "You are the basis of all American stereotypes," I joked. "Blonde hair, blue eyes, eats almost only greasy junk food-"
"Not afraid to shoot someone with a gun," she added, smiling at me.
"I'm not complaining, just pointing it out," I said, digging into my ramen.
"You say that while eating ramen?" she asked.
"It's a special ramen Yumi makes that is actually healthy compared to most ramen," I said.
"Touche," she relented.
We sat there just talking and eating our food before we went back to our test rooms to finish them. The first test Nezu handed to me was the Japanese one. I finished this one in an hour and even double checked everything within that time. He took it and handed me the English one. After spending four months with an American whose primary language is English and then dating her for two of those months I learned a lot of English from her as well as helping her with Japanese. I gave Nezu the test after almost the whole two hours since I was still not sure of some parts of it. He handed me the Science one and I finished this one in an hour since I was splitting my time while I was mostly bed ridden between figuring out the E.D.I.T.H. Codex and learning as much as I could about science and engineering. I still wasn't to Melissa's level but was pretty good in basic equipment. I looked up at him and he gave me a surprised look.
"Are you sure you are done?" he asked.
"Yes."
"Alright," he said, handing me the General Knowledge one.
This one was mostly about things that weren't covered in the others but was more so life skills that everyone needed. I took most of the time just to make sure everything was right. I handed it back to him and received the last packet which was the smallest of all of them. I then realized it after reading the questions. They were open ended and I needed to figure out not only the best method but also the possible outcomes. I answered the questions the best I could and listed the possible outcomes of my decisions. I answered the last question before going look back at all of them. I looked up and met Nezu's smiling face with a small smile of my own.
"I'm done," I said.
"And with half an hour left," he said, looking at his watch. "Miss Shield is still in her test but you can wait outside for her," he added, starting to look at the packets.
I went out and leaned on the wall opposite of her door. After an hour she walked out.
"Wow, that last test was confusing," she sighed.
"Tell me about it," I agreed.
"Blame Nezu, he's the one who added that last one," Yumi said, walking out with a pile of packets and walking into the room I was in before walking out without them in a moment. "Alright, let's get dinner before you head to your apartment," she said, leading us out of UA.
We went to a small restaurant and got sushi before Yumi and I split from Melissa who went to her apartment. We arrived and I got a message on my phone from her saying she got back safely. There was then a photo of her lying on her bed with the cat she got on her chest. I smiled as I put my phone away.
"Grab your shuriken, we're going to do some practicing," Yumi said, grabbing her pouch.
"Give me a moment," I said, running to my room and grabbing something I just finished before meeting her in the basement.
"What are those?" she asked.
"Well, since I decided to use bats as my theme I made these," I said, pulling one of the bat shaped shuriken out of the pouch. It was very basic with points on the bottom and the ears and sides with the bottoms being sharpened(Dark Knight Trilogy). "If I'm going to use them I need to practice with them."
"Alright, let's see if they work," she said.
I took the one I was holding and threw it at the target that was set up. I hit the ring just outside of the center. I took the next one out and threw it again. This time it hit just next to it. I kept throwing them but none hit the middle. By the time I was out they were in the shape of the symbol Tony put on the costume design.
"Really? Show off," Yumi sighed. I then threw the last one and hit the dead center. "You really picked this up quickly, I'm honestly surprised. Normally it would take someone most of a year to get this far, add onto the fact of your hand to hand and baton fighting you'll do just fine in the exam," she said.
"I'm not planning on bringing anything to the exam except for some mechanic gloves," I said.
"Really? Why?" she asked.
"The practical is robots, unless they change it up from years prior, so if I can get into a single robot it would be better than anything they would let me bring," I explained.
"Wow, that is an amazing idea, but what if you can't get it to do what you want?" she asked.
"Then I dismantle it and fix it into something that I can use," I said.
"And do that within the time limit to get enough points to pass?"
"Yup, honestly any part of anything can quickly be made into a weapon given enough will power," I said.
"I pray the two of you aren't in the same testing zone," Yumi sighed.
"I guess it's up to random chance," I said.
Time Jump
"Huh, I guess our luck went somewhere," I said, looking at the large gates to the mock city.
"I agree," Melissa said, holding my hand. "Maybe a kiss for extra luck?" she added.
"If you insist," I sighed in fake annoyance before going on my toes and giving her a kiss on the cheek.
"What are you doing? This is a test, not a place for physical displays of affection," a tall boy with blue hair and engines sticking out of his calves, he was standing rigid and moving his arm in a chopping manner.
"Calm down Mr. Roboto," I said. "I'm sorry if we offended you."
"I suppose it is alright," he said.
"GO!" the voice of Present Mic yelled as the doors opened.
Melissa and I ran through immediately. She got approved to use her dual glocks in the exam while I just had my thick leather gloves. I jumped on the back of the first three pointer and pulled the plate off of it's back. I jumped in and noticed it was mostly empty. I went towards the front and plugged my phone that I also got approved to use in the main CPU of the robot. After a moment I was in control of the robot. I used the optics and changed the targets to other robots. I noticed a few people looking at the robot weirdly before I popped out of the hole to see better while controlling the robot. I lost count of my points after fifty. Then I saw the Zero pointer come out.
POV All Might
"Let's see how they handle this," Nezu said, hitting the button that activated the zero pointers.
I was watching the screens when I noticed one and felt everything in my body yell at me to go. There was a young blonde girl trapped under rubble. I then saw her look up and I knew her face.
"Melissa!? She's trapped and the robot is going to get her!" I yelled.
"Sir, something's wrong with that one. I can't shut it down," Power Loader said.
"I'm Going!" I said, buffing myself up as I started to run there.
POV Izumi
I looked at the feet and saw Melissa trapped under rubble while two girls were trying to get her out. I had the robot run over to them before hopping out.
"The zero pointer is coming, do either of you have anything that could slow it down?" I asked.
"I am afraid not," the girl with silver hair over one of her eyes said, with her hands out and a slight glow similar to the one around the smaller rubble.
"Nah, I only got these," the other girl said, lifting up two aux jacks that were connected to her earlobes. She brushed her violet hair behind her ears.
"Alright, you get Melissa out I'll see what I can do," I said, commanding the robot to help get Melissa out from the rubble.
I ran at the large robot and peeled a metal plate off the leg just above the treds. I climbed into it and up to where I figured the chest was where the main CPU was. I noted that it was almost the exact same as the others meaning it was just as vulnerable. I made a fist and punched it until the robot stopped moving and all the lights shut down. I climbed out and saw Melissa was out and the robot I had controlled was off.
"They called time while you were in there," she said, hobbling over to me. She then smacked me upside the head. "Did you really climb into the giant death robot to take it down?"
"Um, yes?"
"Melissa are you-alright?" a deep voice I never wanted to hear again asked. "Young Mid-"
"Don't talk to me asshole," I said, putting Melissa's arm around me as I helped her walk. "I'm going to bring my girlfriend to the medical tent so get out of my way," I growled.
"Perhaps it would be better if I-"
"It's fine, she can take me there, All Might," Melissa said, venom dripping from her voice. "You've done enough to her."
We made our way past him as everyone stopped and looked at us interacting with the number one hero. I helped her to the medical tent and walked in.
"Hello there, I was told you were on your way," an old lady with a giant syringe said.
"You're Recovery Girl," I noted, my excitement at seeing heroes lessened from the last four months.
"That I am young lady, now what seems to be the problem?"
"My ankle is hurt. I was under some rubble and it was pinned," Melissa said.
"Here, sit down and have some gummies," she said, giving her a small kiss on the forehead. "And you?"
"I'm fine," I said.
"The blood dripping from your gloves says otherwise," she pointed out.
I looked at my gloves and they were soaked with blood that was dripping. I took them off and noticed my knuckles and palms were bleeding. I assumed the knuckles were from beating the CPU and the palms were from me gripping my hands out of anger which made my knuckles worse.
"I didn't notice that," I admitted.
"Izumi, really?" Melissa asked, saddened.
"Here, you can sit in the bed next to her and have some gummies as well," Recovery Girl said, giving me a small kiss and some gummies before walking out.
"I can't believe he was here," Melissa sighed.
"Agreed," I said, hopping onto the bed with her.
"I thought you were told to go to the other bed?" Melissa asked, smirking.
"I just need you to hug me right now," I said, wrapping my arms around her.
"Alright," she said, giving me a hug.
"Melissa, how are you-" All Might started freezing when he saw me.
"I was doing just fine with Izumi before you decided to ruin that," she said.
"I'm sorry, it's just that heroics is too dangerous because y-"
"Why? Because the two of us are quirkless?" Melissa asked. "We will be heroes even if you don't believe in us."
"Melissa, please think about this. Just because she wants to be a hero doesn't mean that you have to follow her," he said.
"You think she's making me try out to be a hero?" Melissa asked. "I'm going to be a hero because I want to be. I don't care what anyone says the two of us will be heroes. She already told me about what you told her on the roof. Were you even thinking!? You tell a quirkless person to 'be realistic' and then leave them alone on the roof. What's next, if I told you would you just put the knife in my hand and leave me to my own devices?" Melissa yelled, tears streaming down her face.
"It's not like that-"
"Go, and don't act like you know me ever again. You aren't my Uncle Might, you're just some quirkist idiot who is the number one hero," she said.
"I don't know what you said to her," he started, looking at me.
"Don't blame her for your own stupidity. Get out of here now!" Melissa yelled, causing me to flinch and shove my face into her neck. "I'm sorry," she whispered into my ear. A couple of moments passed before she spoke up again. "He's gone, I-I'm sorry you had to witness that."
"I-it's my fault, it's just because-"
"Izu, it's not your fault. It's his for not seeing past his quirkist mind set," she said.
"Still, I think for the next week we won't work on anything in the lab and just relax," I said.
"That sounds like an amazing idea," she agreed.
We laid there for half an hour before Recovery Girl cleared us. We walked to her apartment and sat on her bed watching anime with her cat on our laps.
POV Yumi Sogeki aka Arrowette
"So, last week we had a wonderful showing of possible hero students," Nezu said, looking at all of us who were teaching hero classes where All Might was in a deflated form. "As of right now a teacher has sent me a request to remove two of them for safety reasons, All Might could you please explain why two of the top five students shouldn't be in the hero course?" he asked.
"Yes," he said, standing up. "The two students are Izumi Midoriya and Melissa Shield."
"Really?" I asked. "The only students you don't want to let in are the only quirkless students to ever apply let alone get enough points to get into the hero course, one of which took the number one spot and took the Zero pointer down?"
"This is for their own safety, how often is it that our lives are put in danger and we are saved by our quirks?" he asked. "They don't have quirks to fall onto and so if they are in a dangerous situation will have to rely on gear which can malfunction."
"Izumi did the whole exam with nothing but gloves and her phone. Melissa did it with guns," I said. "Realistically they didn't use much more equipment then Snipe and I use for our quirks to work. Without a gun Snipe might as well be quirkless and if I can't throw anything then I fight quirkless as well."
"I agree, it would be irrational to let talent such as this go just because they don't have quirks. Might I remind you that most of us in the hero course effectively fight quirkless. Midnight's quirk doesn't work on certain mutant quirks so she uses a whip, Ectoplasm's clones just gives him a number advantage and that's not all the time. Present Mic can't use his up close or it endangers everyone so he uses hand to hand. Then there's me who's quirk doesn't work on any type of mutant and so I fight quirkless against them and win. Quirks aren't the end all be all, that's why one of the hero classes they take is quirkless combat. If they use the right gear and want to be heroes then who are we to stop them, but if they fall behind to their peers because of their crutch of using gear and not focusing on their own bodies then we should transfer them to Gen education," Eraserhead said.
"Well, both of them also passed the Support entrance exam," Power Loader said.
"Yes, they asked for a dual course. I believe that they should be allowed into both courses with the support classes in the morning and hero classes in the afternoon," Nezu said. "They tested out of English, Japanese, and even Math. They also both have above average scores in Science and General Knowledge."
"You aren't actually thinking of letting them in are you?" All Might asked.
"There was a strong enough argument on why they should be then what you gave for why they should not. Now, onto to the issue of the HPSC telling us that since we caused a young man who wants nothing more than to be a hero to be arrested we need to take responsibility and correct his mindset from the cursed school he went to and help him achieve his dream," Nezu said, looking at me.
"I'm guessing these are the consequences you were telling me about," I sighed.
"Indeed, so Shota, you will take the two quirkless hero students since I feel like they would learn best under you since they informed us that they want to go underground as well as the correction student so that way if he tries anything you will be able to stop him. Also so you all know keep him on a short leash since he is on very thin ice. Give him a max of two chances and well the third strike means he's out," Nezu said.
"Who let the rat watch baseball?" Eraserhead sighed.
"Oh, and Yumi since you are now the full time Heroics teacher for class 1-A I would like you to allow All Might to assist you on your classes where you feel like he would be able to assist," Nezu added.
"Sir, are you sure it's wise to let him teach the same class with the two students who he asked to be transferred? Wouldn't it be more logical to have him work with the other class?" I asked.
"Not to worry, he will be working with both classes. Also he will never teach a class, just be there to offer assistance in any way you allow him," Nezu said.
"Alright," I conceded, glaring at the hero.
"Perfect, now onto the costume designs," Nezu said, bringing out two stacks of papers. "Shota and Sekijiro along with Yumi and Nemuri will look at these and decide what is allowed and what won't be."
AN-
Alright, so if you didn't get the reference at the beginning it was meant to invoke the Adam West 1966 Batman television show and movie which are the greatest ones in my opinion even though they existed before my parents were born. Yes they are old but gods are they amazing. So, the next chapter will possibly make many people mad, also how much should I mess with Class 1-A's make up?
