Hi!
I hope everyone is well! I'm back to fill my yearly tradition of Halloween fics.
This year, I decided that it's a really big shame that you can't really trick or treat when you live on a submarine. But then I decided, this is fanfiction and you can make anything happen in fanfiction.
As always, I hope you have a great Halloween if you celebrate it, and even if you don't I hope you have a wonderful day!
I hope you enjoy!
Living on a submarine meant a fairly isolated life.
Finn rarely, if ever, got the chance to see normal, non-pirate, mainland people. He saw the Nektons occasionally, met dozens of strange people at the floating black market and was obviously surrounded by endless marine life. Asides from that, he was with his sister, his father and an abundance of crew on a constant basis.
That wasn't to say he didn't enjoy spending every living second of his life in a metal box with them, so close they were quite literally breathing the same air, it was just the fact that they seemed to miss out on all the normal, non-pirate, mainland stuff.
Sure, he had heard and read about all that stuff but he'd never had the chance to actually see or do any of it.
For example, it was October 31st - Halloween.
Other kids were out trick or treating, watching scary movies or just generally eating a bunch of sugar.
And then here he was, on a rusted submarine, deciphering a map to help the captain find some sunken treasure. Maddy was sat beside him, head slumped on the table because she had been tired and Finn had said he would finish up all the map work so she could rest.
Other kids were eating chocolate, jelly beans, gummy bears, gummy worms, gummy snakes, other items which had for some reason been turned gummy - basically anything packed full of copious amounts of sugar.
Finn was sat at a table which had a large bowl of pickled eggs in the middle as some sort of ornamental centrepiece.
Finn was used to the isolation and exclusion from all the 'normal' stuff.
Which is why he was so surprised when suddenly the Dark Orca's alarms were blaring.
"Aahh!" Maddy yelped as she was startled awake by the terrific din, "Since when do the alarms work again?"
" Since last week when Danny Boy fixed them," Finn replied, having to yell slightly over the noise of the alarms.
"What's going on?" Madeline asked, also yelling over the noise.
"I don't know, come on, let's go find dad," he replied, the pair of them jogging out of the room.
Upon arriving at the bridge, the two pirate siblings found their father and Danny Boy stood there, both frantically pushing buttons - apparently trying to quieten the alarm.
"Dad! What's going on?" Maddy yelled over the din.
"What?" Hammerhead bellowed back.
"I said: what's going on?!" Maddy yelled back even louder.
"What?" Hammerhead yelled again.
"I said-" Maddy took in a deep breath as though she were about to scream when Finn cut her off by reaching across her to push the correct button to disable the alarm.
"What's going on?" Finn asked before any more yelling could take place.
"There, Cap'n, there they are!" Danny Boy said suddenly, jabbing his finger at one of the monitors, which showed live feed of the moon pool room.
The moon pool room which seemed to be inhabited by Nektons.
The pirates all rushed to the moon pool room: even Hammerhead was mustering up a jog.
Finn was confused. Why were the Nektons here? Admittedly they did show up a lot but never without good reason, a good reason that usually involved retrieving treasure from the pirates. However, the pirates didn't currently have any treasure on board. They had spent the last few weeks tracking down a single map, only to find it was written in runes they couldn't understand and so Finn was now deciphering it symbol-by-symbol.
The Nektons were all about doing right and good and all that stuff which pirates never even thought about. They wouldn't invade the Dark Orca without a good reason, leaving Finn very confused as to why they were here.
Just as Finn's mind was spiralling with endless thoughts, they arrived at the moon pool room - and then stopped abruptly at the sight before them.
"What- what's happening?" Madeline mumbled to him.
" I- don't know, Maddy, " Finn admitted, still not tearing his eyes away from whatever he was seeing.
The Nektons all seemed to be wearing Halloween costumes.
Will and Kaiko seemed to be wearing very similar costumes: covered in face paint and wrapped in bandages, the two of them were dressed as a pair of zombies, the look even complete with torn wetsuits. Fontaine was looking to be a mermaid as she had donned a wig of long, wavy, purple hair and a tail so she was now sat at the edge of the moon pool to avoid falling over.
Ant was the real conundrum. He was wearing a dark green wetsuit, face paint, coloured contact lenses and he even seemed to have dyed his hair dark green - talk about commitment. Finn honestly didn't even have any guesses as to what he was supposed to be.
Ant was holding his fish backpack (Finn couldn't remember what he called it) which had been painted orange with a green top to look like a pumpkin and inside, Jeffrey was wearing a tiny wizard hat.
Then Finn seemed to realise there was someone else in the room.
Alpheus as wearing long robes with an adhesive beard and held a large golden sceptre being used as a staff.
Finn eventually cleared his throat to speak.
"So, um, Will, Kaiko, you're zombies, that's lovely, Fontaine, a mermaid, that's-" Finn began.
" She's not a mermaid, Finn! " Maddy suddenly cut him off, "She's a siren, obviously, there is a difference, you know," she rolled her eyes.
Finn turned to look at Fontaine, "Are you a siren?" He asked, hesitantly.
"Uh, yeah, actually," Fontaine replied in surprise, " Although, I didn't think anyone would figure it out, no one else has, "
Finn smiled, "Yeah, Maddy is a bit of an expert on mermaids and sirens and stuff like that," he ignored his sister's extensive eye roll at that, " so, Ant, I hate to break it to you but I don't have the slightest clue of what you are, "
"Don't feel bad, no one does," Fontaine replied dryly.
"That's not true, Fontaine," Ant protested.
"Yeah, he's a kaiju," Maddy added as though it were obvious.
"Yeah, I am! I knew someone would get it!" Ant yelled triumphantly.
Maddy and Ant then seemed to realise they had interacted almost civilly and so instantly began glaring at each other.
"Uh, Jeffrey is a wizard, clearly, trapped inside a pumpkin? " Finn said haltingly.
"Yup, he got trapped in there by his own magic, he was just so powerful, he didn't even know his own strength," Ant supplied .
"Uh, okay," Finn replied , "And moving on, what's with the other wizard?" He asked, indicating Alpheus.
"Don't ask me, I have no idea why I'm here," Alpheus replied, shrugging, " please, send help,"
"Right, and why are you all here?" Finn asked, stepping back.
"Oh, right," Ant said and then began a silent count down from three on his fingers.
"Trick or treat!" All of them yelled together once Ant hit zero.
" Uhh, " Finn honestly had nothing to say.
"You know, all we have to give you is pickled eggs, right?" Maddy replied after a moment.
So yeah, that's it. Honestly, I'm not super proud of this one but I did try.
I hope you enjoyed it anyway, please let me know what you think.
Thank you so much for reading!
Until next time!
