Isabelle Lightwood was painfully single. Everyone she knew was in a relationship; Alec and Magnus, Raphael and Simon, Clary and Jace. It usually made for a bore at Pandemonium. While everyone else had fun dancing with their partner, Izzy was left dancing with random girls she'd probably never see again. Which was fine. They weren't the girl she really wanted.
Izzy was bored, so she decided enough was enough and exited the dance floor, ready to leave. But then she spotted a certain someone.
I can't believe we're finally alone
I can't believe I almost went home
Clary was standing in the corner, on her phone. That itself wasn't that interesting - oh who was she kidding, Clary was always interesting. No, what was different was that Jace wasn't there. Jace was always there. Of 24 hours in a day, Clary spent at least 20 with Jace. Usually more.
What are the chances? Everyone's dancing
And he's not with you
She walked over to where Clary was.
The universe must have divined this
What am I gonna do? Not grab your wrist?
Clary looked at her, slightly startled. "Dance with me."
I could be a better boyfriend than him
She pulled Clary to the dance floor.
I could do the shit that he never did
Up all night, I won't quit
It was like a dream, Clary with her, like nothing existed but Clary and Izzy and the music.
Thinking I'm gonna steal you from him
I could be such a gentleman
She could hear Clary's breathing, see the blush on her cheeks.
Ladies first, baby, I insist
They both felt it.
I could be a better boyfriend than him
I could do the shit that he never did
Up all night, I won't quit
Thinking I'm gonna steal you from him
I could be such a gentleman
Plus all my clothes would fit
The song ended. Clary and froze, nearly out of breath (not from the physical exertion), their faces barely an inch apart. No one existed except the two of them.
The two of them, and, of course, the angry looking Jace standing five feet away.
