AN - So uh, It's been awhile since I've posted anything, but hey, I'm back. I've never posted anything FMA before, so we'll see how this goes lol. I actually wrote about 3ish chapters for this but I'll only be putting this one up and see what people think I guess. By the by, I wrote this a little over a year ago, I'm not entirely sure how the writing has held up, but it is what it is, anywho, enough of my rambling, please enjoying the story!
(Oh also, I know the summary is like, really vague, I plan to make a proper one soon, as of now though, enjoy my take on Mustang lol)
I repressed the urge to scream, cry out. Usually I was easy going, and I was great at keeping a calm even when I really wasn't in the mood; but this was.. different. My father insisted he'd meet me here, on the dot, but now I'd been sitting around for 5 hours. He wasn't showing up. And he probably wouldn't even send me a letter explaining why. As difficult as it was to say, this was his way of getting rid of me.
I hesitantly stood up, small leather bag in hand. I hiked my skirt up, and began my trip to the small town up ahead. It wasn't too difficult to find, but I was already exhausted, the sheer amount of stress I went through today was absolutely draining me. I tried my best to avoid the mud puddles and rocky grounds, but it was tricky to do almost anything with such a big baggy skirt on. As soon as I arrived and got situated, the pants were comin' out that was for sure.
The only reason I was even wearing such a ridiculous outfit was because my father insisted it would make the experience more authentic for me. Yet all it had accomplished thus far was being a real pain in the butt. Which was unsurprising, he was more about the genuine feel of things then actually practicality.
I started to stumble across more and more people, as they all began trickling into my line of sight. I weaved around them, trying my best to stay out of being an inconvenience to them as possible.
And then I saw it.. the quaint town named Amestris.
It didn't look nearly as magical as I was hoping for, seeing as I'd be spending the next year here studying how small towns really work, as a community and such. I was supposed to be studying this with my dad as some father daughter time, but now that I thought about it, he probably thought his work back in New York was more important. I grumbled at the thought, work was always more important to him than me. His whole father act was getting tiring to be around honestly.
I fished out some money from my purse and approached the inn me and my dad discussed staying at for the first few nights. After that I'd be switched over to a home for tourists who intended on staying for longer than 6 months at a time.
I approached the inn and entered only moments later, rubbing my boots off on the mat sitting smack dab in front of the door. Once confident I got all the muck off my shoes, I stepped fully in, trying my best to keep smiling and stay chipper.
"Hi there dear! Welcome to the FullMetal inn, are you looking for a place to stay?" I looked up at the new voice.
"Oh hi, yes I actually have a tourist pass, I think I should already have a room reserved?" I query and the lady behind the wood desk smiles wide.
"Well of course! Let me see it and I should have you all set up in just a minute." I oblige by passing her the paper with all the information needed. She keeps the same smile plastered on her face the whole time we interact, it was almost frightening to watch.
She flips through some pages in a thick book, and I'm still puzzled that anyone would want to live without all of the fun technology today's society has created. It just makes living easier in my opinion. More exotic almost.
After she flipped through the book for about thirty seconds she seemed to have found whatever it was she needed to find.
"Riza Hawkeye! Yes, welcome! Your room is all set up, I'll take you there right now." I give a polite nod and then follow the woman to my new room for the next few days. "By the way, my name is Winry, please feel comfortable enough to talk with me casually." She laughs under her breath and my eyebrows knit down in confusion; I keep trailing behind her.
It was so.. odd here. In New York if you checked into a motel or did anything with customer service, the exchange was always short and to the point. But already here, it was like the people wanted to get to know me… how small was this town?
"Winry, gotcha." I acknowledged her finally and she looked back, still smiling.
"Alrighty, we're here!" She chirps and I look at the door number. It was the number 5.
"Are there only four other people staying here?" I query aloud, and she nods.
"We don't get many visitors" I grasp the wooden handle and twist it, opening the door moments later while Winry gives a shy laugh. "Though my husband and I stay here as well, we have dinner in the main room every evening at 7, please feel free to join us!" She's entirely too happy, and I have to keep up the facade of being chipper too. It was really starting to tire me.
"Alright, I'll keep that in mind, thank you." I reply politely and she sucks in her cheeks.
"I guess this is my que to go." She wobbles back and forth on her feet, and I eye her confused.
"I guess, thank you again." I repeat while heading into my small room, she tries to say more but I close the door quickly, as if I hadn't noticed she was going to speak again.
The room was, yes, small. All of my bags were already here, delivered from a plane to this quiet town. I smiled, at least I didn't have to trudge all my luggage in here. I glanced at the bed, it was covered in stains and spots of all kinds, I found my nose scrunched up at the sight. There was a single cream colored sheet tucked in neatly, and a pile of blankets in a wood basket by the door. Luckily it wasn't cold, we were in mid spring after all; so I wouldn't even need to consider unfolding any of the various blankets that were covered in who knows what.
I hopped onto the soft bed, it was surprisingly comfy, I smiled sighing inwardly. Finally something good happened. I considered staying awake, I was really famished, but sleep was demanding my attention suddenly. I was exhausted, and I intended to get as much sleep as possible. I would start my journey around town in the morning. As far as I was aware, there was a cute breakfast place just down the road, I would definitely be stopping there tomorrow morning.
I threw my shoes off, tossing them beside me on the floor; I didn't even bother switching into my pajamas. I just got comfy on top of the sheet, and slowly drifted off into the sweet abyss of sleep.
"Tomorrow will be different, he'll come back for you.." I quietly mumble while nodding out even further. "He'll be back.." I comfort myself before I eventually fully passed out, with a long day ahead of me the next morning, I soaked in every second of sleep.
AN - And voila, chapter 1 is complete! I'm sure y'all have plenty of questions, seeing as a lot wasn't explained, but hey, mystery, intrigue, amiright?
