Rises the Moon

Disclaimer: I own nothing. The song Rises the Moon belongs to Liana Flores.

Full summary: One-shot. Moon is on the hunt for Gregory around the Pizzaplex and has had a little trouble in convincing the boy to go to bed. However, one idea leads him to finally get the boy to fall under his spell.

The power goes out once again in the Pizzaplex as Moon creeps away from the Daycare to search for Gregory. He felt a little responsible in trying to locate the boy and bring him back to the Daycare under his watch, even if Sun specifically said that he was banned from the Daycare just for turning the lights off.

From the way Moon would see it, Sun may have said that Gregory is banned while he is around, but that doesn't mean Moon agrees with the idea. Even if the kid did broke the rules, he still needs to go take a nap, naughty or nice, and Moon is determined to keep reminding the boy about that objective since he first came to the Daycare. Once you are under the Daycare Attendant or the Nightcare Attendants watch, it is hard to get out once you get their attention.

Still from what Moon observed, Gregory has always been under the watchful eye of Freddy Fazbear who keeps hiding the boy inside his chest cavity to avoid the other Animatronics. And they always seem to be observant in finding the Recharge Stations to elude Moon whenever he comes out. He would never really hurt the kid if he got his chance to get close enough to him, despite what the virus in his system is trying to do by pushing back against his better judgement. But how is he to get the boy to listen to him and go to bed? He tried to convince him nicely that it is past his bedtime. He tried to sneak up behind him before he could run off to the generators. He even offered to read him bedtime stories, but that didn't seem to slow the boy down. He tried to scare him into going to bed. Nothing seemed to be working in convincing the boy to do what Moon expects him to accomplish.

Eventually Gregory should know what happens to naughty children who won't go to bed… The boogeyman would get him. And once the boogeyman does catch him, the boogeyman will put the boy to bed. Moon often had to play the part of the boogeyman for the kids when they wanted to still play before naptime.

That was until Moon got an idea that popped into his head.

Not only he offers to read kids bedtime stories, but he can also provide lullabies for the children when necessary. He wondered if Gregory has ever had someone sing him a lullaby when he was a baby. That was a mystery for now since the boy was new to the Daycare Attendant. The boy didn't appear to be the type to stay still and listen to a song, but Moon was going to try it out anyway and find out.

He doesn't want the boy to be caught by Officer Vanessa nor by the other Animatronics out on patrol for him. He feels that it is his sole responsibility to get the kid himself alive and unharmed. He even told Officer Vanessa specifically that if he catches Gregory before the others can get their hands on him, he will bring him back to the Daycare, not to the Lost and Found.

He remembered the conversation he had with Vanessa about it until he got her comfortable with the idea.

"Moon you know that once you find him to just put him in the Lost and Found where I can keep an eye on him." Vanessa tried to talk him out of it, although a little tired and annoyed by Gregory's game of hide and seek.

"Don't you think the Lost and Found would be quite boring for the boy once he is found?" He starts to suggest his idea carefully. "All you have just to keep him busy is some spare clothes, baby toys, and some tools for him to escape from there easily. Wouldn't you bequeath that job to me so that you don't have to worry about it for the night? I have a specialty in keeping a good watch of children wherever they go. I have plenty of games, toys and activities for the kids to do, even naptime can occupy a kid depending on the situation."

"I don't doubt you have a full arsenal in your disposal Moon. But Gregory is a lot harder to contain than the other children you have experience with." Vanessa tries to convince him to let her take care of the boy once he is found. "What will stop Gregory from trying to escape the Daycare even if he was under your watch? He will just escape again and again with whatever he has found around the mall. He even has a faz-blaster and the faz-cam to stun the other Animatronics by now. What would happen if he used those against you?"

Moon wasn't at all concerned about it as he waves it off. "Sun and I are programmed to know exactly what kind of aggressive actions kids can pull to try to get the upper hand. If we detect any sign of it we know to put an end to it before it gets worse. They usually get time outs or scared straight as punishments for trying to stand up against us." If he had to, he can just sneak on by and steal Gregory's toys away from him. "Trust me on this Officer Vanessa; you are better off having someone who is experienced with kids to deal with a runaway child. And I expect for neither you nor the other Animatronics to come take him away from me once I catch him. If you do try to take the boy from me, I will put you all in time out." For some strange reason Moon seems to have a feeling that he doesn't trust Officer Vanessa. He can sense that something about her was not right in the head when it came to Gregory. Under precaution from his sensors despite being infected with a virus that is trying to tell him to bring the boy to the security guard, he believed that Gregory will be much safer with him rather than with Vanessa. He maybe is made to be a security bot but his duties as a Daycare Attendant come first! Not even a computer virus can tell him how to do his job.

Vanessa sighs in defeat as she shrugs her shoulders. "Well… Okay Moon. I will leave him to you if that's what you want. But if Gregory dares to escape from the Daycare and you are not watching him, then he is going to the Lost and Found when I catch him." Moon would make sure that she never got that chance.

As Moon flies through the Pizzaplex on his zip-line string, teleporting here and there around the building looking for the boys last location, he is hoping that he will get through to the boy with his lullaby and finally put him to bed. Thankfully since he brought Freddy to Parts/Services, the boy was alone which will make things much easier for him to get close. But he is going to have to be cautious and careful in luring Gregory into his trap. He also made a note of where exactly the Recharge Stations are so in case the boy tries to flee to one of those areas Moon will block it off from him in order to buy himself some time to catch the boy before he escapes.

He found Gregory not too far from one of the clothing stores on the second floor of the Pizzaplex. Keeping at a safe distance, he crawls right behind the boy like a spider on the walls and starts humming softly, beckoning the boy to listen…

Gregory knew at once when the power goes out in the Pizzaplex to find the nearest Recharge Station for him to escape from Moon's line of sight. Since he doesn't have Freddy's help of hiding from the Animatronics and needs his assistance in finding the parts to fix him up with, Gregory was on his own in the mall. He knows that if he dares to look at Moon while being chased in the darkness of the mall it would be an automatic game over for him. He could tell Moon was around with all of the stars twinkling around him in the dark. He only wished that Freddy was there to protect him as he does his best to avoid Monty, Roxy and Chica in the mall, dodging them underneath the tables, hiding behind the carts, and running as fast as he can to outrun them. Moon was much more difficult to shake off of his trail no matter what he did to elude him except for the Recharge Stations.

Above the rest of the Animatronics, Gregory believed that the Daycare Attendant was more dangerous than the others, not based on strength or on special eyesight in the darkness, but because the Daycare Attendant was smarter and clever than them. Even if he tries to use the faz-cam or the faz-blaster, none of those things did much to stun Moon from chasing the boy. It was as if he sees Gregory's tricks and blocks those attacks.

But there was something going on with Moon now… Something that Gregory wasn't familiar with during his race to find a Recharge Station. Something that made him slow down and listen closely in curiosity. He could hear Moon humming, slow and soothing before he starts to sing. His voice seems to echo around Gregory.

Days seem sometimes as if they'll never end

Sun digs its heels to taunt you

But after sunlit days, one thing stays the same

Rises the moon

At first Gregory was confused on what Moon was trying to do. Why was he singing that song? He has never heard something like it before… but that was until he feels his eyes starting to close on him. He had to snap himself awake and not fall asleep once he figured out in his head that Moon is trying to get him to fall asleep. He breaks out into a run to try to get some distance away from Moon's song, but it feels like the song is messing with his head, trying to make him fall asleep. "Freddy, is there any way I can drown out Moon's singing from my head?" He asks Freddy through his watch.

Freddy answers, "Try to get another catchy tune in your head to replace whatever Moon is doing. If he catches you sleeping, he might make you go back to the napping corner in the Daycare." There was only one problem… Gregory doesn't know any other catchy tune to drown it out.

"But that doesn't make sense Freddy!" Gregory states as he can still hear Moon humming his song in the background. "If Sun says I am banned from the Daycare, I am banned! Shouldn't Moon be following along with what Sun says?"

Freddy responds. "Let's just say even if they work together in the Daycare under different personalities, they do have their disagreements from time to time. I can only guess that since Sun banned you that would mean Moon most likely wants the opposite."

"So you are saying he wants me back and to punish me for turning the lights off?" Gregory guesses on the top of his head. He knew that Sun and Moon work differently like how you turn a light switch on or off. He did the best he could to cover his ears to try to silence Moon's singing.

"Even if you were banned from the Daycare, if my hypothesis is correct, the Daycare Attendant still cares about the children they take care of, whether they are naughty or nice. The Daycare Attendant still feels like it is their job to look after you since you are in the Pizzaplex." Freddy informs.

Days fade into a watercolor blur

Memories swim and haunt you

But look into the lake, shimmering like smoke

Rises the moon

Gregory wasn't planning on looking anywhere but for a Recharge Station. No looking in the lake for this boy, that's for sure! A part of him wanted to stay awake, but there was this annoying part of him that wanted to just shut his eyes and rest.

"I still wish that Moon would take the hint that I am not interested in sleeping until I am safe and away from the robots and the rabbit lady." Gregory muses in annoyance as he finishes talking with Freddy on the watch while running.

He skids to a halt when he realizes he just missed the Recharge Station a few miles away. He quickly tries to reach the station only to find that Moon was hanging around by the door, crouching on top like a spider. Slowly Moon reaches his hand over to the boy waving him to come closer so that he can put him to sleep.

Oh-oh, close your weary eyes

I promise you that soon the autumn comes

To darken fading summer skies

Breathe, breathe, breathe

Gregory screams in panic as he rushes away from the blocked off Recharge Station, remembering that he can't look at Moon for too long. What time was it again? 3:57 A.M. according to what the watch said. Worrying about Moon's singing along with finding another Recharge Station was bad enough to bring Gregory's anxiety up. If by chance he loses his chance to get into a Recharge Station before the power out is up, Moon will catch him and he would be done for.

"Hey, Little Guy!" Gregory heard Monty's voice calling to him as the gator Animatronic was racing to catch up to the boy. Gregory ducks underneath him and runs away from the gators reach.

"This area is off limits." Chica chimes in with a warning to Gregory as she tries to run over to grab Gregory by the shoulders. Gregory twists himself around and takes out the faz-blaster, stunning her in place as he continues to try to outrun the Animatronics.

The pale blue hand of Moon grabs onto Gregory's arm and pulls him back into the jester's chest, restraining him from going anywhere. It didn't help that with Moon pulling Gregory away from the other Animatronics, he accidentally loses his grip on the faz-blaster. Gregory struggled to fight off Moon's grip and try to reach over to the blaster he dropped on the floor but his body was beginning to feel exhaustion from all of the running. Moon's singing didn't help him either.

Days pull you down just like a sinking ship

Floating is getting harder

But tread the water, child, and know that meanwhile

Rises the moon

Moon continued using his soothing lullaby to slowly lull the boy to sleep. He could detect that the boy stopped struggling to fight him off as he looks around briefly to see Roxy, Monty and Chica backing away from him. Now that he caught the boy, he is under Moon's custody; no one else can lay their hands on him. Not even Officer Vanessa will get her hands on the boy now.

"Its past your bedtime little starlight." Moon whispers gently as he wraps his arms around the boy who is struggling to stay awake and not surrender to the lullaby. He continued singing the next verses with good measure to make Gregory fall under his spell completely.

Days pull you up just like a daffodil

Uprooted from its garden

They'll tell you what you owe, but know even so

Rises the moon

Gregory couldn't fight off the call of sleep anymore as he falls limp in Moon's arms. Small traces of tears run down his sleepy eyes as he fears that he failed to survive the night until six A.M.

Upon seeing the tears running down Gregory's face, Moon turns him around and wipes them away with his fingertips. "You are alright little one. You must be tired from running around the mall with nowhere to rest. Lets get you to bed back at the Daycare." He lifts up Gregory to have him rest his head on his left shoulder while carrying him in his arms.

"I can't rest…You will…kill me…for the rabbit lady…" Gregory says groggily as he tries to keep any thoughts of sleeping at bay. Unfortunately the sleeping lullaby he was hearing in his head was winning.

Moon didn't say anything as he listens closely to what Gregory was trying to say. He could understand that the boy would be apprehensive on the punishment Moon mentioned back when they first met,(He was only going to put him to bed early for the punishment anyway) but the rabbit lady was new to him. The rabbit lady he doesn't know much about, so he could presume that the boy was having nightmares about her which would explain why he doesn't want to sleep. "I don't work for the rabbit lady little starlight. You have nothing to fear from me."

He vanishes from the mall and reappears back to the Daycare, taking the sleeping child with him. Once Moon returned to his work station in the Daycare, he walks over to the nap corner and uses his right hand to pick up a pillow. He then lays Gregory on the pillow, adjusting him so that he is comfortable and reaches his left hand over to a dark blue blanket with stars on to cover the child. He finishes the last part of his song slow and soothing while brushing his hands over Gregory's head. He decides to finish the song as he watches over the sleeping boy. Most likely he will have to keep the boy in the Daycare for a two hour nap. If he did try to wake up from his nap, Moon will make sure to put him back to bed.

You'll be visited by sleep

I promise you that soon the autumn comes

To steal away each dream you keep

Breathe, breathe, breathe

A/N: I hope you enjoyed this one-shot. I wanted to try out a different twist from Its Past His Bedtime, where Moon catches Gregory outside of the Daycare in the mall during one of the chase scenes in the game. I would be pretty creepy if the game added in Moon singing to Gregory to try to put him to sleep.
