chapter-2
Louise's 6th birthday wasn't the best day of her life. In fact, she would dare call it one of the worse.
She woke up with glee, got dressed up by the maids then skipped with proprietary up to the dining room where her parents and sisters were waiting.
Breakfast was laid as usual and nothing was out of ordinary. Nothing other than the extra wand next to her father's seat. Her wand.
She quickly finished her breakfast and waited and waited and waited and finally her father finished his breakfast.
"Louise, come here." Father said and she ran up to him, her hands trembling with excitement. Father handed out the wand and soon in was in hard grasp. The cold and hard wood was in her hand and she would feel her magic being channeled through it.
Wind dragon ,She whispered, a spell that her parents and her sister performed like breathing. A magic spell every noble could use once their hands touched their wands. Yet the plates on the tables didn't float, nothing happened, nothing happened until a certain explosion destroyed the Valierre's dining table.
Louise was shocked, she looked at her parents' and siblings' faces and they were equally shocked.
The room was quiet until Eleanore-oneesama told her off for not knowing the time and place for using her magic. Father soon recovered from his shock and washed off the explosion as mere accident.
Only it wasn't a mere accident. For hours after breakfast, father tried teaching her the simplest of spells, spells that all nobles should be able to use the moment they got their wants, spells that all turned to explosions when she casted them.
Spells that she, as a daughter of the La Valierre couldn't correctly perform.
She felt worse as her father brought out wands after wands for her to try, wands that failed to bring out any results other than explosions.
"We'll try again tomorrow." Father said with a smile, a smile they Louise knew wasn't truly a smile.
"Little Louise is just tired, that's all" Cattleya-neesama consoled but Louise was depressed all the same.
But she couldn't feel it at all. She couldn't feel the sensation her father had described, the sensation of being one with nature as one channels magic through their wands. She couldn't feel nature at all. All she felt was energy. Energy from the dark emptiness inside her.
It was just her first day of using magic and everyone washed the explosions off as excitement. Their face said it all, everyone expected her to use magic soon.
Expectations that Louise somehow knew she could not fulfill.
'We nobles are different from commoners because we are blessed with the sacred ability to use magic. Abilities bestowed upon us by the founder Brimir, abilities which we nobles must use to help and protect their subjects with.' Was what her father had always said.
Was she still a noble then? She who couldn't properly use magic, who could only cast explosions to destroy couldn't be of aid to the Valierre's subjects.
Imagining their disappointed face brought tears to her eyes as she ran away from her parents and siblings to her room to find consolation, to find her Naruto.
Writing to Naruto about everything had been her habit lately. It was just that he was so warm, so cheerful and so kind. He viewed her without expectations, expectations that were in the eyes of her parents whenever she tried anything.
She quickly wrote down the disastrous birthday for her friend to see. She wrote down her fears of being unable to use magic and she wrote down her worry about not being able to be the girl she was supposed to be. She was quite stunned when the first line she got from the book was.
'Happy Birthday Louise-chan.' She could imagine his carefree whiskered face smiling as he said it and she chuckled at the thought.
'Louise-chan is Louise-chan and whether Louise-chan can use spells or not, Louise-chan will always be my friend.'
His answers brought a wide smile to her face. It was the only consolation that was fully acceptant of her inability to use magic.
Their small talks continued as Naruto wrote about how she should celebrate her birthday with the strange food called 'ramen' then called Tristain a forsaken place for not having the food. The book was rather crazy and mad like that but he was her crazy and mad book.
'Thank you, Naruto.' She wrote as she readied herself for bed. 'For being my friend and everything.' She added.
'It goes both ways Louise-chan. Besides, Louise-chan's my friend and I'd do anything for you.' He replied.
Louise would forever be thankful for the old man in her dreams who taught the blonde how to read and write at an early age so he wouldn't be cheated. Call her selfish, but she was only thankful because the man allowed Naruto to communicate with her. Besides, Naruto was the personality inside the book and since the book was hers. Surely he was hers as well.
That night she dreamt of Naruto, smiling and pleased with himself as he consoled his only friend in the book.
It was as Louise had feared. Months after her birthday explosions were still the only thing that she could cast.
Eleanore-oneesama got tired of the explosive spectacle and said that Louise should just be married off and have a magic-free lifestyle if only to not disturb people with her explosions.
It depressed Louise and of course she told Naruto her oneesama's mean words.
Naruto, being the naughty genius prankster that he was gave Louise a rather flawless plan.
It was no wonder that Eleanore-oneesama soon found her room with questionable furniture ranging from plants to pigs which Louise got from the Valierre estate's livestock.
And no, Louise did not dirtied herself from touching the pigs, she was a still a noble even if she can't use proper magic and nobles do not touch dirty things. Getting the pigs were rather easy though, she simply had to show those pigs her explosive powers. One look and they were running the opposite direction.
And whilst she was tired after the whole setup, Eleanore-oneesama's shocked expression when faced with Naruto's so called pranks was worth it all.
Of course she denied all her involvement it in.
Naruto had urged her to prank her mother like how he pranked his jiji for her mother's iron strictness but Louise wasn't ready to take that step yet. Her mother was way more scary than Eleanore-oneesama.
The good days could not last and hers ended the moment her father said.
"Louise, you are to have the Viscount Wardes as your fiancé."
Eleanore-oneesama doesn't have a fiancé, Cattleya-chi-neesama doesn't have one either. The decision was clearly made due to her explosive-magical-prowess.
Again, she cried as she told Naruto what happened and again he comforted her like no one else.
Of course before all the seriousness started, he had to ask 'what is a fiancé?'
And after Louise explained that a 'fiancé' was someone she has to in the future in the future he quickly wrote, 'but you can't! Louise-chan's mine, besides he could give you cooties!'
Louise refrained from commenting that she wasn't his, rather he was hers and stuck to 'And you won't be giving me these cooties?'
'Of course not, we're best friends so it would be alright.'
She obviously said 'no' when Naruto asked her whether she wanted to marry the Viscount. But there were other things to consider besides her wants. It was the Valierre's line at stake, an unmarried woman was a blemish to the lineage and with her inability to use proper magic, who would even take her?
'I'll take care of Louise-chan when that comes,' were the words that suddenly appeared after she wrote down her doubts and Louise wanted to know how he was going fulfill his promise seeing that he was a book. Yet she strangely believed him, trusted his every words. But what else could she do but trust him, after all, wasn't he always there for her in her time of need?
With her second 'no, I don't want to marry the Viscount' proclamation, Naruto immediately concocted an elaborate scheme.
Thinking about it now, the Viscount was a rather suspicious man. In Naruto's words, he claimed that 'a man who wants to marry a girl 10 years below him is a bad man' and continued on telling her things she did not want to hear like how a man was doing the same to little girls in his village.
Viscount Wardes was either a pedophile or a man with alternative motives. Either options sent chills down her spines.
Seeing the Viscount appearing at her door in his blue outfit with a large smile did not help.
When her father told her to properly address her future fiancé she screamed "pervert!" and bolted out the door.
The secret garden was her destination, it was the land surrounded by a lake in the back of her family's estate. A small marbled pavilion stood in the centre and in the lake was a small rowing boat.
Louise got out pillows and blankets from the pavilion, stuffed the pillows into the boat and covered it with a blanket then hid in the bushes near the pavilion.
The Viscount came as expected and said "little Louise, I'm not a pervert," as he walked. She didn't believe a single word of it.
The Viscount saw the bulge in the ship, walked towards it and Louise grinned in anticipation as she saw Naruto's plan taking effect.
When the viscount got onto the boat and said, "little Louise, I know you're in there," she knew her decision to weave a spell at the boat was a correct one.
Explosion resounded and the boat promptly sank. It saddened her that her dream to row the little boat with Naruto would not come true but perhaps her dad might purchase a new boat.
Moving out of her secret bush, she giggled as she ran back to the manor.
The viscount returned to the manor, all wet from his unfortunate experience to find his room filled with terrified looking pigs and sheep along with their excretions.
Just for the safety of it, all rooms other than hers, her parents and her sisters were filled with the same mess.
"It seems that I was not welcomed." Said a wet and smelly Viscount Wardes with a scowl upon his face. He turned to Louise and gave her a suspiciously nasty smile.
"Little Louise, I'll be back for you." He continued and Louise was rather terrified. Naruto's assumption that the Viscount was a deviant who enjoys the company of children rang true in her mind.
And though she might be the target of Wardes, she was still not engaged seeing that all talks had failed.
Her parents looked rather annoyed seeing that the planned 'one month stay of the Viscount' had reduced to the '4 hours stay of the Viscount' instead, courtesy of Naruto's genius.
Louise denied all accusation.
Sadly, no one believed her, especially when Wardes retold her family how the boat suddenly exploded.
She snickered softly as nobles did not laugh out loud. Cattleya-neesama noticed and whispered "Little Louise is become an expert on magic." And that made Louise smile a little wider.
It was not ideal but it was alright. She was still unengaged and Naruto was still with her. He would save her from any attempts towards her hand.
She dreamed.
The Village was surrounded by lights. Every corners of the streets were cracking in celebration.
The villagers were drinking and cheering the death of the Kyuubi, a monster that could crumble mountains with a flick of its tail. A monster that was vanquished by the yondaime hokage seven years ago.
All were celebrating.
All But him.
As the blonde boy walked down the streets, the cheerful mood was replaced with discontent and hatred as the villagers glared at Naruto with disgust. The glowers were stronger than usual and the glares held more venom than usual.
"Demon brat," muttered one villager and soon thing like "that thing killed the yondaime!" followed.
A drunken resident threw a glass bottle at the blonde boy but he luckily dodged. Others stood up and made the same aggressive motions towards him.
He wanted to cry, why was he hated, what had he done to deserve all this hatred. He'd never hurt anyone, never wanted anyone harmed so why was he hated.
He ran and ran and ran until he was back in his derelict apartment. There used to be more residents but they all moved out as he moved in. Only with jiji's intervention that he was able to stay in the building.
He locked the door and ran towards the book on his bed. His tears finally fell as he held the book tightly to his chest.
She woke up from the nightmare but she also noticed a shy girl trying to help him. That causes a slit jealousy but she hides it and she grabs the book and starts writing.
'Is there something that you're not telling me about?' Louise hastily wrote into Naruto, the nightmare she had was a fearful experience.
'No' was the only word that appeared, though those wet blotches must have meant tears. The book was detailed like that.
'Then why were there more glares than usual and why were those drunk people chasing you?'
Nothing appeared and Louise sighed before she continued.
'I trust you so why can't you do the same.'
That got him to start writing.
'I do trust Louise-chan.'
'Then why won't you tell me.'
Nothing appeared for a while until Naruto slowly confessed. 'It's my birthday'
'what?' She wrote back as his birthday was not the confession she had been expecting.
'It my birthday,' he wrote the same phrase.
'And the celebration?'
'It's today as well'
Oh, oh! Things clicked. But couldn't be possible. Reincarnation was impossible. Even the founder could not reincarnate. Her friend was simply blamed for something her did not do.
'So because you're born on the day the Kyuubi thing died, people thought that you're its reincarnation and started blaming you?' uneducated villagers could sometimes be fanatics like that.
It took a while before he wrote, 'I never thought of it like that but I think so?'
'Well they're stupid and you should just ignore them. You have me right! A noble like me is better than a bunch of stupid and mean villagers.'
He didn't reply immediately but a 'Thank you' soon appeared. 'And' A sentence started but was crossed out but another soon started again. 'And if I really am the monster?'
Naruto was so stupid it times, if she didn't have the fear of breaking the book she would have slapped him for his stupidity.
' I'll still be with you even if you're a monster. I told you already that you're mine and you'll be mine forever and ever and ever and everrrr.'
'Thanks, Louise-chan will always be my precious person forever and ever and ever and everrrr as well.'
Hopefully that cleared up his blockheadedness.
'No more secrets.' She wrote.
'No more secrets.' He promised.
