Chapter 4

Disclaimers: I do not own Naruto or Familiars of zero.

Thank you to everyone who followed, faved and reviewed

Louise dreamt a lot about Naruto and Naruto probably dreamt a lot about her too.

She saw him getting into the Shinobi Academy and she hoped that he would make more friends, like how he encouraged her to befriend Henrietta. Her hopes were dashed the moment when the hateful and suspicious stares followed him from the streets and into the academy.

Gazes of suspicion turned to gazes of mockery the moment Naruto failed the written exam, failed the taijutsu exam and failed the ninjutsu exam. Some noticed, but no one voiced the fact that some teachers and examiners carried the same hateful stares directed at Naruto. Naruto might later on forgive them but Louise could never bring herself to do the same. Was it so wrong that Louise felt fulfillment every time Naruto played pranks on those teachers.

It was unfair, he tried so hard. It Was like how she tried so hard to master the most basic of spells, spells that failed and only caused explosions after explosions.

She hated herself for it. Hated herself for the fact that she felt some resemblance of pleasure the first time she saw Naruto failing. She hated the fact that she was happy, happy that he failed, and that by failing, it somehow made him closer to her.

She knew Naruto knew what she was feeling. She hated herself all the more when he wrote, "This makes me close to Louise-chan now right?"

The words were written but she could feel the emotions within them. Those words were filled with such sincerity, so different from the sarcasm that Eleanore-neesama often used.

She truly was a pit filled with jealousy. He was her dearest friend yet she wanted him to fail just so he could understand her more.

Those words of his destroyed all her jealous thoughts. Those words of his made her pray continuously to the founder for Naruto's success. It was horrible and mean of her to be jealous. She had everything from family, money, servants, everything that one could ask for except magic whilst he had nothing. He was nearly always alone, nearly always by himself. His companions were only her, the hokage and the family who owned the ramen stand.

To others it may seem silly. Praying for the wellbeing of a fictional character inside an interactive spellbound book wasn't what one should be praying for yet Naruto filled her lonely life with fun. The lonely hallways in the manor became brighter from his encouragement and her laughter flew freely with his words. If there was someone deserved the blessing of heavens, it was Naruto.

'Ignore those stupid pigs!' Was the phrase Louise found herself often using, especially when the laughter in the classroom was continuously directed at her 10-years old friend. It was unseemly for a noble to speak with exclamations but she was writing rather than shouting so it should be fine.

Over the years, the book must have created a stronger connection towards Louise. It was the only explanation to why she saw glimpse to what Naruto was seeing and felt glimpses of what Naruto was feeling. The stronger connection must be the reasons why she continuously asked Naruto about his feelings.

'I'm fine Louise-chan. Why would I care about what they say when I'm going to turn their hair purple by the end of the day.' He wrote back, but all Louise could see was Sakura, the pinked haired girl in Naruto's line of sight.

Louise held no feelings but contempt for Sakura. Who was she to stole Naruto's concentration from Louise and who was she to brush off Naruto like he was nothing. Sakura was no better than the rest of the villagers. Her screams of 'Sasuke-kun' could somehow be so loud that Louise hurt her ears from listening to them even though the screams were magically created by a book.

Sakura hurt Naruto's feelings but the blonde kept on asking her to be his 'girlfriend' – whatever the term might mean. Louise's parents sure had not said the word 'girlfriend' or 'boyfriend' before.

Apparently Teuchi, the ramen man was the one who introduced Naruto to the word, saying 'it's a word to describe 2 people who wants to be together forever, to always support one another in time of need.'

That brought nothing but confusion to Louise.

Why would Naruto want to be with somehow who kept on hurting him? It simply made no sense.

'Why do you want Sakura to be your girlfriend?' Louise wrote the question that she spent several sleepless nights wondering about.

'Because I like her?' Was Naruto's prompt reply and it somehow made Louise terribly annoyed.

'And why is that?'

'Because her hair is pink?'

'What?' Louise exclaimed. Sakura having pink hair explained nothing.

It took a while, about a minute or so before Naruto's next reply appeared.

'It's pink like Louise-chan's hair. Seeing it makes me feel closer to Louise-chan. Besides, she's all over that bastard Sasuke so she won't say 'yes' anyway. I keep asking her out because I-I just want to see those pink hair up close.'

It made Louise incredibly happy that she hugged the book tightly across her chest.

'A-And why didn't you ask me to be this 'girlfriend' thing of yours?'

Again, there was a pause.

'Because even though I want to be Louise-chan's boyfriend, I can't. I can't support Louise-chan, not when Louise-chan already have everything. I'll be just a burden and Louise-chan helped me out so much that it would be unfair to –'

'IDIOT!' She wrote down in huge blocs before he finished. Naruto had probably seen her house from the growing connection between the two of them. He'd probably compared it to his room. Various visitors called her house huge, elegant and stunningly breathtaking but she couldn't help by hate it at that moment, Hate it for making Naruto belittle himself.

'I don't care! You helped me too. So whether you want it or not you're my 'boyfriend,' now. I mean. You were the one who helped me in my time of need.'

Her reply stunned Naruto, if the lack of his writing was any indication. It actually stunned herself as well, she was a noble and nobles were always in control of their emotions.

'You better be grateful that a noble like me is giving you this honour.' She added and within seconds Naruto wrote back.

'Of course Louise-chan! I'll be your perfect boyfriend and always treat you like a princess.'

Things wouldn't change much. In her mind, Naruto always treated her like a princess. Always caring for her, always there for her when no one else was there. To her he will always be the ever-glowing light that guided her during times of loneliness.

Things did not change much for the two of them but things seemed to have changed a lot for the others.

Louise thought Sakura's flabbergasted expression was well deserved the moment Ino asked Naruto whether he was going to pester Sakura today and was replied with "No, I already have a girlfriend."

Louise was appalled by the fact that no one believed Naruto, as he had no evidence. Lightning should be rained down upon them disbelieving the existence of a noble like her.

Sadly lightning did not rain down upon them and their travesty went unpunished. Naruto wanted to prove Louise's existence but he was did not want to show anyone the book in fear of losing his friend-come-girlfriend forever. It was an understandable reason and she would've done the same, but it was unfair, just like all other things that were happening around them.

With his obsession over Sakura's hair subsiding, Naruto practiced more. And even though his ninjutsus continued to fail, his other areas of combat improved. Louise accredited herself for such improvement. Her continuous nagging for him to visit the library instead of asking aid for taijutsus from evil teachers turned out great and Naruto soon escaped the demonic teachers' attempt at sabotage.

Of course not all teacher were ill intentioned. Iruka-sensei appeared and was genuine in the affections he had for her blonde hair-friend. Louise thought that her continuous prayers for Naruto might not be in vain after all.

She wasn't idle with her magic either but her attempts in levitating objects resulted in them exploding and detonating.

The idea came from Naruto after he read one of Louise's weekly rants. Her whiskered friend pointed out that at least she could create explosions then continued to explain how explosion was an invaluable tool in pranks as one do. Therefore, one should cherish such skill and refine it to perfection.

Her attempts at refining those explosions resulted in the disappearance of the Valliere's family eastern forest. She recently read that ashes from dead burnt trees could be called 'fertiliser,' a substance that encourages growth, and justified her practices as investment for more trees in the future.

Louise's parents were not amused with her justification in creating fertilisers but they had no grounds for objections, being they were the ones who encouraged her to practice her spell works.

She did feel sorry for the trees she used to refine her aim; it was ironic how spells meant to heal exploded them instead. Louise would make sure that their sacrifices would not be in vain. She was certain that her ever-strengthening powerful and accurate explosions would have its uses in the future. Willpower was magic's fuel, with so many sacrifices to empower her magic, her explosion would surely leave its mark on Halkeginia, both literally and metaphorically.
