Sho chose me.

The man who was to be his guardian was furious. Sho wouldn't go near him.

When the 3rd pillar turned four years old, the elders decided to assign him a guardian. They'd selected Faerie, the leader of the Cataclysm Force, a being from Adolla who'd lived for over two centuries. Like Sho, he possessed an Adolla Burst. They would make an unstoppable team.

I'd been helping take care of Sho for several years, and had grown quite fond of him. He was always excited to see me as well. More than a few times, I'd wished that I could become his guardian, but I knew it was not to be. Sho needed someone stronger to protect him.

The day Sho met his guardian, I went along. I had been looking after him that day, and held his hand on the way to the council chamber where Sumire, Yona, and Faerie were waiting. Charon and Haumea were also present.

Faerie bowed and formally greeted the 3rd pillar. Sho watched him, silent and wary, while keeping a tight hold on my hand. When Faerie approached him, Sho dashed behind me. Faerie reached out to him, and Sho clung to my skirt and started trembling. The man was rather intimidating, especially now that he was getting angry.

I didn't know what to do. I was standing between a terrified child and a being from Adolla. I picked Sho up, and he threw his arms around my neck and would not let go. Faerie tried approaching a few more times, but Sho just held onto me more tightly. Faerie looked at me with a hatred that chilled me to my bones, then turned away.

The 3rd pillar had rejected his guardian. And he'd clung to me.

Sister Sumire and Yona looked on in shock as a seething Faerie stomped out of the council chamber. Charon gave me a knowing smile and set a hand on my shoulder. "Congratulations, Arrow."

I hadn't even been considered before now, but because I was a 3rd gen pyrokinetic training for combat, I was eligible. Sister Sumire and Yona allowed it, and the next day, I swore an oath while the 3rd pillar stood at my side.

Sho chose me, though I am not worthy.

I am weak. I am inexperienced. I don't have an Adolla Burst. I don't have a great ability like Charon does. I am not worthy, but Sho runs to me when he's scared.

So I will become stronger and faster. I will work hard. I will not fail him. Sho trusts me, reaches for me. He wants me to protect him. And I will. This earth will become a star before I leave his side.

Sho chose me, and I will devote my every breath to him.
